I n this process, the dynamic behavior is modestly nonlinear.

That is, the dynamic behavior changes as operating level changes.
This is because gravity driven flows are proportional to the square root of the hydrostatic
head, or height of liquid in a tank.

4. STUDENT ACTIVITIES
4.1. Student can observe the effects in Interacting system by
Altering the inlet flow condition by altering HICO01
Altering downstream pressure ofunit B (PICO02).

4.2. Student can observe the effects in Non-Interacting system by

Altering the upstream pressure of unit A (PICO01).
Altering the valve positions HICO02 and HICO03.
4.3. Student has to find out which of the Interacting and Non-Interacting system is more
sluggish nature.
aKeep the controllers of both the systems in Manual mode.
aGive the uniform step input to the inlet offirst tank in both the systems
aObserve and note the flow outlet from the first tank in both the systems in every
interval of 10 seconds.
aGPlot the graph Time Vs. flow rates oflnteracting and Non-interacting systems.
Result is substantiated from the graph.

4.4. Observe the effects of Interacting and Non-Interacting system if any change given to the
second tank:
Keep the controllers in Manual mode.
Alter the downstream valves ofthe second tank in both the systems.
Observe and note the Inlet and outlet flow rates and the level of both the tanks in
both the systems.
Result is substantiated from the observations.

4.5. The student has to studythe relation between the valve opening & level in both the vessels
of Interacting system by the following procedure:
Change the controllers LICO01 and LICO02 to Auto mode.
BNote the design level PV of LIC001, flow PV of FI102, MV of LICOO1, design level
PV of LICO02, flow PV of FIO03and MV of LICO02.
Alter inlet to the tank V-001 by altering the valve position HICO01.
Observe and note all the parameters in every time interval of 10 seconds.
Plot the graph Time Vs. Valve opening and level in both the tanks.

4.6. Student has to study the Non-linear response of both the tanks of
by the following procedure:
Non-Interacting system
Change the controller LICO03 to Auto mode.
Note the design inlet flow to V-003 (PV of FI004), Level of V-003, inlet flow to V-
004 (PV of FI006), Level of V-004
(PV of LICOO3).
Alter the tank V-004 outlet globe valve HICo03
position.
Observe and note all the parameters in every time interval of 10 seconds till the
steady state is reached.
Plot the graph Time vs. Level in both the tanks.
