provide the most relevant contribution.)
Research Area

Scientific/Theoretical Background to the Study (What have you read that you decided to
pursue this topic?)
The Cory Aquino Boulevard, also tagged as the longest boulevard in the Philippines is an
ongoing government project that has a length of about 8.7 km (when completed) that connects
4 towns – Mercedes, Daet, Talisay, and Vinzons – in Camarines Norte. It was opened for public
access last April of 2019 and is expected to boost economic activities in the province. Several
business shops have informally emerged along the boulevard including a night market providing
goods and services among locals, visitors, and road-users. Traveling on the boulevard will give
people sights of Baybay beach in Mercedes, Bagasbas beach in Daet, San Jose beach in Talisay,
and Mantigbi beach in Vinzons. Not only does it make traveling faster within the province, but it
also makes it more fun and relaxing.
The attraction is a new rising tourist destination in the province and has a lot of unused
spaces ready for utilization. Since the attraction is new and ongoing, it is expected to attract
more businesses that would further promote its tourism. But aside from shops and stores, a
public space open and accessible for all without spending money is a great factor to consider
having. An eco-park for example is a great addition to this rising attraction.
The study of Mohammad Shamsuddoha and Tasnuba Nasir (2009) entitled, Eco Tourism:
An Establishment of Sitakunda Eco Park in Bangladesh, identified that the Sitakunda Eco Park
can improve local livelihood while meeting demands of local and foreign tourists, but there is a
need to improve it in terms of facilities, security, transportation, and extension of areas. It
stated that through an improved eco-park, job opportunities will expand, livelihood status will
rise, and tourism will increase.
Mohammad Refaat (2014), concludes in his study entitled, Sustainable Landscapes; the
use of Eco Parks as a Tool for Sustaining the Living Landscape, that an ecological park is a
merging response to changing social and environmental needs. It serves as a vessel for
reconnection. An eco park will provide people an opportunity for passive contact with nature.
The goal of an eco-park in the case of the rising attraction – longest boulevard – is to
provide opportunities for people, and provide protection and conservation to existing ecology
in the chosen site.
Knowledge Gap to be Filled (What new contribution to knowledge does this study hope to
generate?)
The purpose of this study is to:
a. explore the potential of an eco park along the Cory Aquino boulevard
b. identify existing conditions at the site
c. suggest solutions to identified problems and enhance identified strengths
d. propose an eco park along the cory aquino boulevard
Main Research Question (What is the main research question that you intend to provide
answers to?)
a. What are the potential factors that will help determine an effective and efficient eco
park along the boulevard?
b. What are the spaces, amenities, and facilities needed for the eco park?
c. What sustainable architectural design strategies and technologies best fit the
proposed eco park?
Research Design, Methods, and Materials (Outline the key aspects of the design,
methods, and materials for the research.)
The study will be conducted using the following strategies/methods:
a. Structured Survey Questionnaire
b. Ocular/Natural Observation
c. Interview
The study will also use secondary sources of information such as journals, articles,
studies, literatures, and more.
