A History of London
The story of London is well known. Avalon, the long-standing domain of
Mithras, shone as the beacon of a city outside Camarilla control. The lord had
slept long after the bombs of the Second World War but still the land knew its
leader. His grandchilde ruled in his place and all was peaceful.

Then - everything changed. Every kindred, from the thinbloods to those within
four generations of Caine, were plagued by horrifying nightmares. For a year
and a day, dreams of fangs and claws and then the horrific slow drain of a soul.
An ancient ritual rebounded as the leader fell and the land screamed for
vengeance.

Every kindred regardless of sect and education knew what this meant. Mithras
was dead. And until his killer was caught there would be no rest for the children
of Caine.

Parties were organized. Searches sent out. His grandchilde, Anne Bowesly, was
assassinated two weeks after her grandsire by Sebastian Moreau, a Brujah who
felt she had done this herself. Sebastian took control only to be killed himself
two days later. Three others sought to take the throne only to be killed within a
month of claiming: Anastasia Bekket of Clan Ventrue, Jasmine of Clan Gangrel,
and Jacob Grover of Clan Toreador.

Finally, six months after Mithras' demise, Jeffrey Addison of Clan Tremere
approached the privy council. There was no breaking this curse. It was older than
Britain itself and with age comes power. Only by fulfilling its terms could the
kindred be free. He offered assistance in return for the Tremere being allowed
free access to London and a seat on the council.

A Tremere. On the council. It was ridiculous - in less than five minutes he left,
the councilors’ laughter ringing in his ears.

That could have been the end of it - Oxford had long been exempt from the
baronies of Avalon and the curse did not apply to those within it. The Tremere and the Followers of Set who made
their dwelling there found refugees start to trickle in. First the Nosferatu who had long kept quiet ties through the
tunnels with the Followers. Then the Brujah. Little by little London shrank and Oxford grew.

Finally, the privy council requested assistance. Still leaderless and adrift, any assistance would be welcome. A seat
on the council was offered. This time it was declined. They had their chance. If they truly wanted assistance, every
member on the council was to resign and each clan with over thirty members was to get a seat on the council. It was
up to each clan to decide how their councilor was chosen. After the curse was broken there would be a vote, and every
kindred who decided to dwell in London would get a say.

Ten days later the councilors resigned and for the first time in a thousand years, London had no rulers.

It took the combined efforts of the Tremere, the Followers of Set, and the Nosferatu to determine what had happened.
Mithras had been set upon by a Sabbat pack and diablerized by a young Assamite, Montgomery Coven. The blood
hunt called was the largest in the history of Avalon and when it was over, every member of the pack was dead and the
curse was broken. It had taken two years, but finally the kindred of London could rest.

Then the office of Prince came up. Kindred rarely vote on their leaders. They are appointed or generally decided on
by the higher ups. But for every single kindred to get a vote? Unheard of. The privy council tried to renege on the
deal, but found the contract signed was more than just words.

They had no choice but to hold a vote, and it was there that they had realized their mistake. By allowing so long to
ask for help, more and more kindred had met Tremere and the Followers, and had seen that they were more than the
low-clan that Mithras said. As candidates rose, Jeffrey Addison campaigned hard. The younger kindred voted for
him. As did the Tremere. Many of the Nosferatu. It was the Followers of Set who sealed his victory. Every single
Follower voted for Addison and so when the votes were counted, he had a clear majority.

Mithras would have been rolling in his grave.

Addison was a popular ruler with the younger kindred, and even the elders gave him respect. He asked the Sheriff of
Battersea, Gawain, to be his seneschal and very slowly began to steer London towards the Camarilla.

Politics continued as usual until that fateful night in 2014. The council and the Prince were awakened by their ghouls
with the news that Oxford was falling. Calls for help came to everyone who had made allies in Oxford. Addison gave
Gawain the orders to call up a hunting party while he went to assist his fellow warlocks along with those who were
already available. This first wave was made of greats. Jacob Harrington of Clan Ventrue. Mathew Cotton of Clan
Brujah. Samantha Devraux of Clan Gangrel. Victor Cross, a visiting Archon of Clan Ventrue. And of course, Prince
Jeffrey Addison.

When the second wave arrived, all had been slaughtered save for Victor. The Archon had taken a grievous wound
from the gargoyle Archbishop Lionel and been mistaken for dead. Once again London was without its leader.

Gawain rallied the survivors and brought the forces of London to push against the Sabbat long enough to allow the
Followers of Set and the Tremere who survived the opportunity to flee. The Nosferatu opened their tunnels, but it
was the Gangrel who allowed them to hold fast.

Long a clan who held apart from politics, Lady Sloane Walsh and her Gangrel brood came to hold the line. When the
London forces finally fell back, it was as one. Organized. Defeated and battered but not broken.

Gawain could have taken the baronies then and no one would have questioned it. But he didn't. Yet again, the kindred
voted. This time, it was Gawain who won, nearly unanimously. He cast off his old name and became Prince - the
first Gargoyle to hold that title.

His first decree: London would join the Camarilla. They needed allies, as he saw that this was just the beginning.
The Sabbat would come for London, and they needed assistance. It was not a popular decision – the Followers of Set
for example, objected, but little by little, most of the kindred have become used to it.

Dates of Importance:
• 1996: Mithras bites it.
• 1998: Monty Coven is killed, Addison is elected Prince
• 2014: Siege of Oxford

chucked out the window.

The Black Death(1348)

In 1348 - the Black Death came to the shores of Britain. By autumn, the plague had
reached London, and by summer 1349 it covered the entire country, before dying down
by December. 40–60% of the population were afflicted. In 1361–62 the plague returned
to England, this time causing the death of around 20% of the population. After this the
plague continued to return intermittently throughout the 14th and 15th centuries, in
local or national outbreaks. From this point on its effect became less severe, and one of
the last outbreaks of the plague in England was the Great Plague of London in 1665–
1666.

Due to the practice of bloodletting, used to cure the disease, a large part of the Kindred
population unwittingly became carriers of the deadly affliction. Mithras reacted by
lashing out against the Low Clans, particularly the Nosferatu, Tremere, Gangrel and
Followers of Set. A lot of young Neonates from these clans were culled as a result by
the two acting Scourges, supposedly in order to halt the spread of the disease. Many went into hiding, only to uneasily
emerge once the Plague had died down for good.

It is a general consensus that Malkavian scholars, along with a few Tremere in hiding, were able to greatly assist the
progress of medical practices at the time and bring the end to the outbreaks.

The Great Fire of London(1666)

The vampiric population of London was severely reduced during the Great
Fire of 1666, which swept through the central parts of London. It gutted the
medieval City of London inside the old Roman city wall. It threatened but
did not reach the City of Westminster, or most of the suburban slums. 13,200
houses, 87 parish churches, St Paul's Cathedral, and most of the buildings of
the City authorities were destroyed in the blaze. It is estimated to have
levelled the homes of 70,000 of the City's 80,000 inhabitants.

The fire started in a bakery shortly after midnight on Sunday, 2 September, and spread rapidly. The use of the major
firefighting technique of the time, the creation of firebreaks by means of demolition, was critically delayed due to the
indecisiveness of the Lord Mayor, Sir Thomas Bloodworth, who was later rumored to have been influenced in this
fatal error of judgement by the Setites.

By the time large-scale demolitions were ordered on Sunday night, the wind had already fanned the bakery fire into a
firestorm which defeated such measures. The fire pushed north on Monday into the heart of the City. The battle to put
out the fire is considered to have been won by two key factors: the strong east wind dropped, and the Tower of London
garrison used gunpowder to create effective firebreaks, halting further spread eastward.

It was later speculated that the Giovanni and the Tremere were also involved in the disaster. The Low Clans, used to
feeding among the poor of the city, suffered due to a large proportion of the homeless being extra vigilant or leaving
the city altogether. Mithras reacted by banning the Setites and Tremere again from his domain but leaving the Giovanni
unpunished due to insufficient evidence.

The Battle of Cable Street(1936)
The 1930s saw a rise in fascism across Europe, and Britain was no exception.
In 1932, Oswald Moseley formed the British Union of Fascists, whose
‘Blackshirts’ set about starting violent and antagonistic marches across
England. The height of this was in 1936; declining membership pushed
Mosley to more extreme measures and the BUF arranged a march through
London’s East End. The East End was home to a large minority population,
including London’s largest Jewish population, but calls to the Home
Secretary to ban the march fell on deaf ears. When the Metropolitan Police
attempted to clear the roads for the BUF, they clashed with antifascist
counter-protestors and the ensuing riot scared Mosley into calling off the march.

The anger in the East End wasn’t restricted to the mortals. Word had begun to spread from Germany that the Camarilla
there were puppeteering the Nazis, and a rumor had begun that the Tower were going to try the same thing in London.
A group of dissatisfied ‘Camarilla’ kindred met up in a pub one of their number owned in Tower Hamlets, and agreed
that action had to be taken against the Tower. A petition of protest was sent to Mithras, demanding a meeting to discuss
more democratic processes within the Tower and greater rights for neonates and the rising numbers of thin-blooded.
While Mithras refused to take these demands seriously, he did allow a representative to go in his place. The meeting
that took place in East End coincided with the violence of Cable Street, and quickly broke down into an all-out brawl.
Both the Tower and the rebels would blame the other for starting the violence, and both would smugly claim victory.

Publicly, the rebels were forced to reacknowledge the Tower’s dominance. Privately, the rebels’ discontent only
blossomed, and one young Ventrue stated she would never bow to a Prince’s tyranny again.

The Blitz(1940-1941)
The Wehrmacht’s bombing campaign brought a level of destruction to
London unheard of since the Great Fire; over a million houses were
destroyed, thirty thousand people were killed, and another hundred thousand
injured. The city’s kindred scornful of the power of the kine, were completely
unprepared for the scale of the destruction. Warnings from younger vampires
experienced in modern warfare were largely ignored, and many elders and
ancilla were unwilling to abandon their domains and havens, reluctant to take
the precautions of hiding in the bunkers and sewers as if they were Nosferatu
- or worse, kine.

The Brujah and the Malkavians took the brunt of the devastation, with much of their domain lying in the industrial
and dockland areas of the city that were the most heavily targeted. No Clans were truly spared however; with the
exceptions of the Nosferatu deep in their warrens and the gangrel hiding in the untargeted parks. Cries for help were
ignored by the Tower, for the unthinkable had happened. A direct hit on Mithras’ supposedly protected haven had
thrown the ancient Prince into torpor. Immediate suspicion went to Breidenstein of Berlin - for what sort of freak
accident would the bombing be otherwise? Suspicions went nowhere, however, as the Camarilla immediately
descended into chaos.

Mithras had been eternal, and his violent torpor with no awakening in sight left London completely unprepared to deal
with a succession crisis. As more and more kindred fell to the bombs, the clans devolved into squabbling over who
would take regency over the Tower in Mithras’ place. Eventually the Primogen rallied, claiming the power and
independence that Mithras had ruthlessly crushed for so long, and turned inwards to protect their own - starting the
fractures that would inevitably lead to future chaos.

The Canary Wharf Development
The economic slump in post-war London combined with Mithras’ topor to
devastating effect. With the clans working together less than they ever had
before in the city, inter-clan conflict did little but aid London’s degrowth -
between 1939 and 1980, the city’s population shrank from 8.6 million to 6.8.
As mortals left the city in droves, so did kindred, worried that even mighty
Mithras, torpored as he was, could do nothing to protect Britain if the
Camarilla or Sabbat finally turned their attention to the island.

The Ventrue were the first to really notice the issue, and that was more
because their profit margins were being slashed than from any actual concern for the safety of the city. The Ventrue
rallied over the 1980s, with quick minds forged from centuries of dominance in England swiftly pushing London to
the forefront of the global financial market in the decade. Part of this included one Ventrue neonate’s enterprising
proposal to buy up plots on the Isle of Dogs; the docks had shut down in 1980 and the area had swiftly fallen into
poverty. Land was at a premium, and the clan excitedly dreamed of creating a financial powerhouse that would rival
Wall Street.

As usual, the Ventrue didn’t account for the Nosferatu. The island had long been their domain, and while the Ventrue
would not have dared infringe when the city had been governed under an active Mithras, the torpored Prince meant
opportunity. A shadow war began as the Ventrue tried to move in; construction sites sabotaged, bank accounts
mysteriously hacked and cleared out, contractors pulling out for seemingly no reason. The Ventrue quickly realized
they just didn’t have the ability to deal with entrenched and angry Nosferatu, while the Nosferatu could only hold up
the sheer amount of resources at the Ventrue’s disposal for so long. Eventually a compromise was reached; the Ventrue
would keep what they had built along the edges of the Island, their ‘Canary Wharf’, but they were there as guests. The
Clan of Kings grudgingly accepted, but few could stomach the site of a defeat against the sewer rats, and many simply
encouraged the City of London to start developments elsewhere in Blackfriars and Alban Gate in ‘competition’ against
Canary Wharf.

The 2012 Olympics

In 2012, the Olympics came to London, bringing a huge boost that Britain
dearly needed after the 2008 Recession. London itself boomed with more
than two million visitors coming into the city for the games. This was both a
blessing and a curse for the Kindred of the city; on the one hand, when
London benefited, so did the kindred. Investments blossomed, hunting
became laughably easy, kindred could hide much more easily in the crowds.
However, travel from all over the world meant that it wasn’t only mortals
who came to London. The Primogen Council found itself dealing with a
sudden influx of kindred, some of whom were utterly alien to English
Kindred - there was even rumour that the Chinese delegation had been accompanied by a group of vampires unlike
any anyone had ever seen before. As the Council argued on what to do, and tried to keep track of the Kindred moving
through the city, it was Santos and the Breach Bureau who stepped up and tackled the problem head on, from covering
up masquerade breaches against naive tourists from careless kindred to dissuading some over-excited Brujah from
attempting to ‘show off their skills’. Thanks to their tireless work, earning commendation from the Council, London’s
masquerade remained strong.

The true lasting consequence of 2012 was the amount of new Kindred who decided that they liked London enough to
stay; many, faced with prejudice and distrust from the Primogen Council, decided to take offers of protection from
the nascent Anarch movement, swelling their numbers greatly.

It wasn’t until after the Siege of Oxford that the Camarilla realised the Olympics had given the Sabbat the perfect
cover they needed to bring in enough war packs to be capable of storming Oxford.

The Siege of Oxford (2014)
The greatest calamity in recent Kindred history came with the unthinkable;
the Siege of Oxford. Within a single night, the British Camarilla was shaken
to its very core as the Sabbat stormed the renowned Tremere Stronghold and
turned it into the Sword of Caine’s base of operations within the Isles.

The Sabbat’s success in taking the city was not merely a stroke of mad luck
and reckless zeal but rather the culmination of decades of planning following
the demise of Mithras. With his diablerie and the upheaval of Kindred society,
the Sabbat set machinations in motion that would result in core members of the Sect plotting to abuse the current
political situation and turmoil within the Isles to strike directly at the heart of their enemies.

Lead by the Gargoyle Lionel and his closest cohorts, all Cainites of great renown within the Sabbat, the Sword
maneuvered themselves into a favorable position by planting their spies and deploying their warhosts within London
under the cover of the 2012 Olympics and various other mortal affairs. Until finally, all pieces were in position for the
great tragedy to befall Oxford.

Within hours, special packs of Cainites simultaneously attacked the great Tremere Sanctums within Oxford, rendering
them incapable of warning their allies or calling for reinforcements. One by one, they fell as the main force stormed
the Chantry. It was a massacre of the greatest proportion as the great city of Oxford fell to the Sword, the few surviving
Kindred still haunted by the bloodshed unleashed upon them during that fateful night.

A single night was all it took for the Sabbat to raze Oxford from all Kindred presence, securing their position within
the city as they immediately began the fortification of what would become their seat of power on the Isles. Fueled by
their bloodlust, zealous Cainites flooded out from Oxford, spilling into London as they attempted to strike at the
already wounded Ivory Tower.

Yet the Camarilla persisted, avoiding London to fall into the hands of the Sabbat, barely. Due to the combined efforts
of the Primogen and the now acting Prince of London, the invasion was stopped within London… yet the threat
remains.

Oxford grows.

More and more Cainites are drawn unto the new frontier, seeking to claim the Isles that had once been an impenetrable
Domain for their cause. From there, within the ever-growing nest of Sabbat influence, the Sword plots its next move,
maneuvering their packs to encroach on Camarilla territory as the sharks begin circling.

Their hungry eyes are set upon London, for if it falls, the rest of the Isles will follow suit.

Recent Events
These events have happened recently – since the server has been opened. Some are still on-going, some are not. If
you want to involve yourself in them, please speak with a staff member!

The Wyllt's Blooming(2020)

In mid-2020, a new clan made themselves known to the Kindred of London. Calling themselves the 'Wyllt', they
claimed Richmond Park and drove off any who sought to investigate. The park, previously Gangrel domain, was
contested and eventually the Matriarch of the Wyllt agreed to return it in the name of peace.

Anarch Insurrection(2020)
In Mid to late 2020, the Anarchs made a bid for territory. First attacking only Mile End and Camden, they then struck
at Battersea. In the end they only managed to hold onto Mile End, but this more than doubled the previous Anarch
holdings.

The Missing Primogen(2020)

A day before Halloween, the Brujah Primogen went missing. Kidnapped by the Sabbat, and driven down the spiral
into a wight, the Camarilla knows nothing other than that he was likely kidnapped by the Sabbat. At the most recent
Brujah Rant, the Anarchs and Camarilla agreed to work together in this investigation. Through the joint efforts of
many of the local Brujah Shaw was found – broken and lost to wassail, his body was returned from the hell-hole he’d
been kept.

Scourge Reformation Coalition(2020 - 2021)

Disgusted by the Scourge’s presentation at court, many younger kindred have gotten together to work on ways to
reform the office of Scourge. Led by the young Tremere, Matthew Eglund-Maine, it has seemingly brought together
members of every clan within the Camarilla.

In the end, the SRC accomplished perhaps more than the elders expected but less than they would have liked. The
scourge, Leeland, was promoted to sheriff and a new scourge was brought in, one William Henry Melvill of clan
Tremere.

The caitiffs and thinbloods are now overseen by a Ventrue called Edward Fairfax, and each is fully blood bound to a
handler overseen by Fairfax that will closely monitor them to ensure their compliance, and they will find themselves
on the front lines for dangerous missions and potentially used as cannon fodder. This is a possibly deadly character
concept. Of course, the Camarilla won't be publicly broadcasting what's really going on...

Hunters(2021 - ongoing)
"A mysterious fire has destroyed a townhouse in an outer neighborhood of London. Fire marshals are somewhat
baffled at the cause, although arson has not been ruled out. Please contact the London police with any information."

Rumours circulate amongst the Kindred of London, that an Anarch has become the latest victim to hunters. A close
friend is said to be asking for assistance from anyone they meet to help in hunting them down and the prince is very
interested indeed.

An Example of Play
Thank you to Elz and Princely Bastard for allowing us to use your RP for this!

[Elz] It had been too long since Willow had seen Mabon last. She dipped into the shop and shook off the
cold, tucking her long coat tighter around her and blowing on her fingers to warm them up.

She dusted her curls off as she bounced up to the counter, a small, plain, brown paper bag carefully folded over
in one hand.

Maple had been left outside, content to tease the pigeons that still hung around even in the cold. "Mabon?"
She called her sibling's name out. It's been a while since she'd seen their sire, or her own, too. But that was
okay, Morgan was a busy woman, and she had other family members that she could turn to.

[PB] When Willow enters the cafe, Mabon is not immediately visible. They’re in the back, working on a
cranberry spice cake for the display in the front. But Crash has made himself comfortable on a table in the cafe,
gleefully ripping up wrapping paper into a nest. He looks up when Willow enters and coos happily, ”is Miss
Willow, is! Miss Willow brought red horse?”

His exuberant cooing alerts Mabon, who pops a flour-dusted face out of the kitchen. “Hey, Willow! I’m in
the back! There’s some bacon treats for Maple in the jar on the counter.” They’re wearing jeans and a linen
shirt with the sleeves pushed up to the elbows.

“Wanna join me? I got gingerbread cookies hot out of the oven!”

[Elz] Willow bent down and gently stroked Crash's head. "Maple is outside playing with the other pigeons."
She flashed a smile towards Mabon when they popped their head out. She grabbed a couple of the treats and
tossed them to Maple through the doorway.

Then she bounced into the kitchen where Mabon was and gave them a quick one-armed hug, unfazed by the
flour. "The cookies smell great! Oh! I brought you a Yule gift!"

Willow wiggled the little paper bag in her hand, smiling brightly. She set on the counter and tugged her coat
off, setting it aside so that she could help Mabon bake.

[PB] ”want to see red horse!” And as Willow opens the door to throw some treats, Crash makes his not-so-
elegant exit to land on Maple’s head.

“He thinks all dogs are horses, because he’s never seen a horse before.” Mabon shakes their head, chuckling.
They pass a cooling rack full of gingerbread snowflakes and stars over to Willow. “We can eat the ones on
the right that are frosted, but save the rest for the customers.” As if to demonstrate, Mabon takes a snowflake
and puts it in their mouth as they begin leveling out the cakes to stack them.

“Cah hoo ‘et—“ Mabon takes the cookie out of their mouth so they can talk clearly. “Can you pass me the
frosting over there? I need to finish this cake first, and then we can do Yule presents! Yours is upstairs, and
you’ll want to bring Maple in because it’s a pair. I mean...” Mabon quickly stuffs the cookie back into their
mouth. “‘Oo dinn ‘ear ee shay hat!”
