 Chapter 1

PROJECT OVERVIEW

This chapter discusses the Abstract of the Study,

Background of the Study, Geographical Profile, the

Importance of the Study, the Statement of the Problem,

Objectives of the Study, and the Definition of Terms.

Background of the Study

Due to the growing population it’s hard nowadays to

find a boarding house or a transient house that we can

temporarily live in, especially for those who are trying to

visit Baguio City. A lot of the tourists major problem are

finding boarding houses, Transient houses or Hotel and for

that we are presenting a project to help Tourist ease their

problem with minimum effort and to start with that we will

create an app that will find you a temporarily houses or

hotel that you can live depending on your preferred time,

duration and area.

Through our project, we will significantly reduce the

stress for the tourists and we will also promote the

friendliness of our city by minimizing effort in finding

their temporary location to live in. It is a time saver

because it will ultimately be an ease for our tourists, not

worrying about where to live and hence they will just gonna

enjoy the temperature and the nature of Baguio City.

Background of the Study

The pace of change brought about by new technologies

had a significant effect on the way people live and work

worldwide. New and emerging technologies challenge the

traditional process of teaching and learning, and the way

education is managed. Information technology, while an

important area of study in its own right, is having a major

impact across all curriculum areas.

As internet technology has improved, so have online

reservation systems. Today, it is possible online to make a

reservation for a hotel anywhere in the world. Hotels can

create Web sites and post new content on it every day.

Technology has gone a long way, improving the lives of

people. These technological breakthroughs have lots to

offer, making great things in the easiest, fastest and

efficient possible ways you can think of. Online hotel

Reservation is very useful for the people especially for

socials that they can now easily reserve a room in a hotel

through our App. Easy worldwide communication provides

instant access to a vast array of data.

The Online Hotel Reservation System that the

researchers have created can be used by any hotel (generic)

that shall find its use worth implementing. The App

Bedseeker Reservation system can be applied to different

hotels. It is a generic Computer Reservation System

therefore it is not limited to a singular holder. It can be

utilized by any company.

According to Asupra (2022), studied an automated system

of billing and reservation for “Pearl Manor Pension House”

Incorporated. After a careful study by the researchers it

has been found out that the employees’ encounters problems

with their present system, these problems are: a. time

consuming in processing check-in. b. delayed computation of

bills and c. time consuming processing of reservation. After

a careful study of the current system of Pearl Manor Pension

House, Incorporated, the group came with a conclusion to;

automate their system. The automation of the system will

give advantages to the company because it will make the

computation of bills a lot easier and more accurate.

Processing is faster and more convenient for both the user

and clients. The results of interviews and research study

that was conducted by the researchers lead to a

recommendation of automating the billing and reservation

system of the company. The system will be the one

responsible to process all the transactions.

According to Cagalawan (2020), studied and proposed an

online hotel reservation for Bacolod Executive Inn. The

findings of the study stressed that some problems exist in

their current system namely: a. time delay in updating email

reservation processing, b. difficulties in confirmation of

the availability of rooms in walk and telephone reservation

and c. report generation is time consuming. As the result of

investigation and observation of the existing reservation

procedures, the group came to the conclusion that the

Bacolod Executive Inn, particularly the reservation, must be

developed through an online system for their better service.

It will provide advantages in the part of the establishment

because it will increase the number of customers, minimize

the workload of the personnel and the generation of reports

on time, and will provide promotion to the establishment

through the website that will highlight the quality of

service they offer. After a detailed study, the researcher’s

recommendation is based on the accurate and relevant

information from the data gathered. The proposed on-line

reservation system for the Bacolod Executive Inn provides

better service to the customers. The researcher’s

recommendation is based on the accurate and relevant

information from the data gathered. It could improve its

current operation as soon as the proposed systems

implementation would take place.

According to Deog (2019), studied an online catering

reservation system of Humprey’s Grill and Restobar. After

careful investigation including interviews and actual

observation, the researchers found out that the manual

operation of the said restobar encountered so many problems

more on processing of catering reservation transactions with

the customers and delays on the process of request.

Moreover, the management of Humprey’s Grill and Restobar is

facing difficulties in their catering reservation system

such as the processing of the catering reservation

transaction. The researchers concluded that the proposed

system for Humprey’s Grill and Restobar will be a big help

to the management because it provides an efficient and

precise processing of catering reservation that makes the

work faster. When it comes to the catering reservation

transaction, the system will function accurately and come up

with its required output facing any difficulties unlike with

their manual catering system. And for this reason, the

researchers highly recommended the online catering

reservation system which will be easy, faster and efficient

to process their catering reservation transaction with the

customer.

According to Bernasol et al.(2019) focus their study on

GNQ and Tours (Granor Norna Quidato). They found out that

the company encounters problems such as their clients having

a hard time making reservations. That's why they can’t

accommodate a large number of clients. Based on the analysis

of data gathered and observations, the researcher concluded

that the current reservation process of GNQ Travel and Tours

is less efficient. It requires more time and effort in

reserving a ticket. The researchers proposed an online

Ticket Reservation to ensure a faster and more efficient way

of delivering a ticket. With this, the agency can provide

better and fast services.

According to Maridable (2020), studied an automated

reservation and booking system for Jaunts and Journeys

Travel Center. The researchers found out that the company is

still using a manual system and experiencing delays in their

transactions, processes and operations specifically in the

generation of reports, computation of payment, user

authentication, and costing of payments.

VISION

Tourists will be at ease because they don’t have to

think where they will stay for a night while eating or

stress about which hotel, boarding or transients that are

available instead they will be focusing on their trip and

enjoy their stay in Baguio City.

MISSION

To help tourists guide their way to their safest place,

To give them an assurance so they will not think about where

to stay and lastly it will be very helpful to our Foreign

Tourist especially if they don’t know the location of the

houses or hotel.

Importance of the Study

This study focuses on providing better service for our

tourists here in Baguio city. This would be favorable and

beneficial to the following:

To the City of Baguio. The proposed application would

be a great help to the City of Baguio in raising its tourist

so that Baguio will be popular in other places.

To the Tourists. The proposed application would be a

great help to the tourists in Baguio City especially for

foreigners who are not familiar with the areas.

To the Marketplace. It will be a huge advantage for

them because it is an edge for them and they will attract

more guests because it is easier to grab clients with our

app.

To the Data Center College of the Philippines-Baguio.

The proposed application would be a great help to Data

Center College of the Philippines-Baguio to be known in the

field of fostering students in creating significant programs

and applications for the City of Baguio.

To the Researchers. This study will enhance the

knowledge regarding the topic and will give a sense of

accomplishment when the said study is finished. It will also

develop the essence of working in a group. And lastly will

help the goal of greatly contributing to the field of

Information Technology

To Future Researchers. This study would help them to

have an initial idea on what topic they would want to choose

and will guide them if they have the same topic or research

regarding the role of technology in any disasters.

Statement of the Problem

This study is intended to create an app that will help

the tourist to find their preferred hotels, boarding house

or transient house. This study sought to answer the

following questions:

1. What are the processes involved in the existing Tourist

Reservation?

2. What are the problems Encountered on the Tourist

Reservation?

3. What are the features of this app that gives an edge to

other hotel reservation apps?

Objectives of the Study

The main objective of the study is to Create and

develop an app for hotel reservations for tourists,

especially foreigners who are not familiar with the city.

In order to achieve the general objective, the

following specific objectives of the study are:

1. To be able to identify the processes involved in the

existing hotel reservation in Baguio City.

2. To be able to identify the problems encountered in

the existing hotel reservation apps in City Camp Baguio

City.

3.To be able to identify the features of this

technology that gives an edge to the traditional way.

Definition of Terms

Reservation. A reservation is therefore a bilateral

contract between a hotel and a guest, according to which the

hotel must provide the specified room type to the guest and

the guest must agree to pay all relevant charges. This is

also known as CONTRACT OF BOOKING.

Tourist. one that makes a tour for pleasure or culture.

Hotel. an establishment providing accommodations,

meals, and other services for travelers and tourists.

Transient Housing. means a home or part of a home, in

which habitable rooms or suites are used by temporary guests

who rent and occupy the rooms or suites or home on a daily,

weekly or monthly basis, including house swapping.

Boarding House. is a house in which lodgers rent one or

more rooms on a nightly basis, and sometimes for extended

periods of weeks, months, and years. The common parts of the

house are maintained, and some services, such as laundry.

 Chapter 2

Methodology

This chapter discusses the methodology that will be

used in the development and the designing of the proposed

system which includes the Scope and Delimitation, Data

Gathering and Sources of Data.

Software Development Methodology

The development of the website will involve a waterfall

method. This is because there is already a set goal and a

set requirements. According to Adobe (n.d) a waterfall

method is a sequential development process that flows like a

waterfall through all phases of a project, with each phase

completely wrapping up before the next phase begins. Again

with the requirements already given this kind of methodology

works best for this project.

1) Requirements - Requirements will be upfront in which

all specification and all requirements will be laid out

and clear in this phase. Once all the requirements have

been verified and signed off, no new big requirements

would be added upon until the whole phase is finished.

2) Design - The design phase will include how every

function and how the UI/UX will show. A prototype can

be created in this phase to see how everything will

flow.

3) Implementation - Once the design is ready, the

functions and all coding will done here. This phase

will take the longest for the actual code and the

actual connection will take place here.

4) Verification or Testing - All functions and all

requirements are tested in this phase. If the client is

unsatisfied with the product they can go back to the

drawing board and fix the problems that are there. Once

the client gives the go sign then the project can

finally go to the final stage.

5) Deployment and Maintenance - The final stage of the

software methodology. Any and all work done will be

maintained until a set period of time. Once satisfied

then the client can now sign off that the project has

been delivered.

The model in Figure 2, shows an MVC model of the project.

The project would be a web based project in which users are

able to access the website to be able to book their

reservations in the client’s hotel. The website can be

accessed either through a computer or a mobile phone.

Scope and Delimitation

This study is about The Bedseeker: an online

reservation for Tourists in Baguio City, a website online

reservation system that can be used by tourists and locals

alike to be used in reserving a hotel room. The website will

be used as a gateway for reserving hotel rooms for hotels

that want to connect with the website. The website can also

be used to check places in hotels that have their own

reservation system to see if they have any available slots

in their hotel room. The system will also collaborate with

transient owners, hotel owners and other places that can be

used for booking rooms.

The system will be strictly for reserving spots for

rooms only. Other types of reservation like parking

reservations and restaurant reservations are now included in

this study but can be done by future researchers.

Data Gathering Techniques

The researchers will gather data in order to develop

the study. Outside and inside sources such as hotel and

transient owners would be interviewed and tourists would be

the main source of data.

Interview. The interview process would include the

hotel, transient and locals in their view on what they think

would help in a booking system for them. The interview can

be done by talking to people in town and to hotel and

transient owners.

Other Sources. Other sources would include the internet

and review sites for other booking systems with similar

functionalities. The researchers can gather data from

reviews to help improve or develop the booking system that

will be created.

Sources of Data

Sources of data would most likely come from hotel and

transient owners and the locals and tourists. The data

gathered here would help shape the requirements of the study

and would have an easier way to develop with the

requirements being clear.

Interview. The interview will consist of two parts. One

for the hotel and transient owners and the second will

consist of tourists and locals. Both have different set of

questions in which the hotel and transient owners will have

to focus on the requirements and the basic setup in which

they want to advertise their place of business while the

tourists and locals will consists of questions regarding on

how likely they will use the application and what kind of

features that they expect in a booking system. This way

compilation of data would be easy and finding the compromise

between the needs of the hotel and transient owners and the

wants of the locals and the tourists.

Other Sources. With other sources the sources will

mostly include reviews and samples from other websites that

have the same functionality and how well this kind of

website is doing in their area of operation. This way we are

able to guide the development team on what quality of life

improvements that can be added so that locals and tourists

will have the incentive to use the said application.
