ALCOHOLISM VS DRUGS
Alcohol addiction is a chronic relapsing disorder associated with compulsive alcohol drinking,
the loss of control over intake, and the emergence of a negative emotional state when alcohol
is no longer available. Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a condition characterized by an impaired
ability to stop or control alcohol use despite adverse social, occupational, or health
consequences. It is a spectrum disorder and can be mild, moderate, or severe and
encompasses the conditions that some people refer to as alcohol abuse, alcohol dependence,
or the colloquial term, alcoholism. Alcohol addiction refers to the moderate to severe end of
the AUD spectrum.
It is often difficult for people to recognise that they have become dependent on alcohol or
other drugs. They may see it as a temporary situation because they are in physical pain or
because they are dealing with a difficult situation such as grief, loss, anxiety or trauma.
Often it is family and friends who first recognise that a person they care about has an alcohol
or drug problem. They may have noticed them acting differently – being withdrawn, always
tired, increasingly hostile or easily upset. They may ask the person straight out if they are using
alcohol or other drugs.
Some signs that you may have an alcohol or other drug problem are:changed eating or
sleeping habits, caring less about your appearance, spending more time with people who drink
or use drugs to excess ,missing appointments, classes or work commitments ,losing interest in
activities that you used to lovegetting in trouble in school, at work or with the law, getting into
more arguments with family and Friends, friends or family asking you if you use alcohol or
other drugs, relying on drugs or alcohol to have fun or relax, having blackouts, drinking or
using drugs when you are alone ,keeping secrets from friends or family, finding you need more
and more of the substance to get the same feeling.
Drug addiction can lead to a range of both short-term and long-term mental and physical
health problems. These depend on what drug is taken. Accidents. People who are addicted to
drugs are more likely to drive or do other dangerous activities while under the influence.
Cutting down on alcohol or other drugs is hard to do because repeated alcohol or drug use
makes the body more dependent and changes the brain. Brain scans of people who are
dependent on alcohol or other drugs often show changes in the areas of the brain that help
you learn and remember and make decisions.
The best thing you can do is to talk to someone you trust so you do not have to deal with this
challenge alone.
Drug abuse and addiction have impacted the world that we live in today. There are too many
people that have a problem with drugs and they either refuse to get help or do not want to get
help since this drug has a grasp on them and will not let go. Whatever drug they are on, does
not just affect them but it also affects the people that are close to them and their families. This
also leads to their children seeing this happen and thinking it is either okay to do or they think
it is cool. So they then start to do them or sell them and begin this vicious life that their
parents have been apart of. The younger generations are the ones being affected most by this
crisis and if we can get to them and prevent the children from doing these drugs then the drug
issue can be stopped and or completely erased. We can do this by using pictures that show
how bad this issue is and how this will impact the rest of your life. The image from the Alcohol
and Drug Abuse website appeals to the readers logos and pathos in a better way than ethos.
