I think, everyone of us thought once, why do some people enjoy doing extreme sports like bungee
jumping, speed racing, paragliding, white water rafting while other people are afraid of just staying at the
roof of the building.
To find out what happens in people’s bodies when they take risks, psychologists studied trainee
parachutists. The results revealed that levels of adrenaline, that helps prepare the body to defend itself by
producing energy in the muscles, increased as much as 8 times during the jump. While levels of
noradrenaline, that has the effect of making people feel good, increased by 150%. People react to stimuli
differently, depending on the way the brain reacts. On the one hand, the brain wave patterns in introverts are
fast. This means that their response to stimuli is quicker. On the other hand, the nervous system of extroverts
is slow. So extroverts have to do risky things to give them enough excitement. As a result, people choose an
exciting or relaxing environment according to how much stimulation their brain needs.
As for me, I can say that I am an introvert, thus I don’t enjoy taking risks, because I receive enough
adrenaline and noradrenaline in my everyday life and I don’t need extreme sports in my life. But on the
same time, I know some people, who enjoy them. Extreme sports are getting more and more popular. They
are certain activities which have a high level of danger. These activities often involve speed, height and a
high level of physical training. There are many kinds of extreme sports: street luging, heli-skiing, big-wave
surfing, BASE jumping as well as scuba diving, water skiing, parkour, white water rafting, hang gliding,
paragliding, waterfall kayaking, ice climbing, snowboarding, skydiving etc.
In my opinion, sport is a part of our life and extreme sports help people in different situations. First
of all, it determines a character. Consequently each person becomes more confident, trying to use his head
before acting. Secondly, extreme sports prepare people to get over hazards. As a result, person can get by
any disasters. Finally, these sports not only develop character, but also keep you healthy from illnesses such
as cold, flu and so on. I consider extreme sports to develop self control. With the help of them, person learns
to control his fear and actions, what is important.
On the other hand, extreme sports are rather dangerous kinds of sport, because everyone can break
any part of body or even die. Only specially trained people should do these sports as they require special
knowledge.
Nowadays, an enormous amount of sports lovers participate in extreme sports; whilst, tragedies are
frequently reported from the ultimate sports competition. Therefore, some people insist in banning the
participation of extreme games. Personally, I do not share this opinion.
Firstly, if these sports were forbidden complete by law, it is quite possible that people who love
being involved in such sports would continue playing them in hidings. Thus, the underlying peril in these
sports would become even more dangerous than before. To illustrate, the most famous and off course one of
the most dangerous sports named as “Bull fight” is still being played by the game lover illegally, in spite of
the fact that it is a prohibited game in many countries. Therefore, prohibiting these kinds of sport is not a
concrete solution.
Although banning these sports is not a complete answer, something can be done to curtail the
severity of outcomes that may stem from these sports. Firstly, people should be educated to understand what
sort of terrible results they might have to face or even endure throughout their whole lives by being involved
in dangerous sports. This may work as a deterrent and dissuade people from such activities. Secondly, the
companies which cater in sky-diving or climbing must have a valid license so that they would feel their
responsibility of providing full training to the people who approach to them to enjoy these games. Finally, I
believe, these steps can work wonders to deal with this situation.
All in all, forbidding precarious sports seems an easiest way to hinder people from being indulge in
these sports. Nevertheless, banning something does not mean that people will stop doing that. Thus, the
steps proposed above may help people to comprehend what is good or bad for them.
Moreover, to my mind, people should have complete freedom to take risks with their own lives. I
think, that everyone is to decide what to do with his own life and how to live it. If we will do only what our
parents or friends want us to do, we won’t enjoy our lives. That is why I am sure, that people should have
complete freedom, even if they are risking their lives. At least their lives belong to them. But that by no
means means that only a person is responsible for consequences. Of course, the companies which cater
extreme sports are also responsible for safety of humans’ lives. It means that only person himself is to
decide whether take risk and try to do something extreme or not.
