Table 250.120(C) for Bonding Jumpers

1. If your phase conductors are larger than 1100 kcmil copper or 1750 kcmil aluminum,
the neutral (grounded conductor) or bonding jumper shall be at least 12½ percent of
the circular mil area of the largest phase conductor (ungrounded conductor). The
neutral conductor is not required to be larger than the phase conductors.

2. If your system has a mix of both copper and aluminum conductors, the neutral
(grounded conductor) or bonding jumper must be sized according to the highest
ampacity conductor.

3. If your system has a mix of both copper and aluminum service-entrance conductors, as
permitted in Art. 230.40, Exception No. 2, or if you have multiple sets of supply
conductors from separately derived sources, the equivalent size of the largest phase
conductor must be determined by adding the total area of all the corresponding
conductors in each set.

4. If you have no service-entrance conductors (the utility has yet to provide them), you
must assume that the largest allowable conductor for the service will be used.
Author's note  Frankly, you should be doing this anyway, if the
utility brings larger conductors in to your service in the future, will
someone remember to increase the size of the bonding jumper(s)?

The above table uses the term bonding jumper to indicate any of the following:
neutral conductor (grounded conductor), main bonding jumper, system bonding
jumper, and supply-side bonding jumper.
