From the FACTS/INFORMATION found in THIS CASE, and SUPPORTED BY

arguments and evidences from other relevant references, you must do the following :
( refer also to Guidelines for Case Analysis, pg 377 in e-text book )

A. STRATEGY FORMULATION

- Introduction: Company’s background in detail

- Develop the company’s NEW (i) vision and (ii) mission
- Develop (i) one long term - LT, and (ii) three short term - ST objectives for the
company (objectives must be in line with the company’s vision and mission)
- Analyse and discuss IN DETAIL each of the INTERNAL FACTORS for
strengths (at least 5) and weaknesses (at least 5). *Only ONE strength and ONE
weakness from each same internal factor* eg only one Strength/Weakness from
Marketing
- Construct IFE Matrix. Interpret the meaning of its TOTAL Weighted Score.
- Analyse and discuss IN DETAIL each of the EXTERNAL FACTORS for
opportunities (at least 5) and threats (at least 5). *Only one opportunity and one
threat from each same external factor*
- Construct EFE Matrix. Interpret the meaning of its total weighted score

NOTE : At the end of EACH of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and

threats above that you have identified and discussed from the case, you must also
provide evidence/fact cited from other journals/publications to support each of
these. Example :
I) Strength
1. Finance

From this case, it can be observed that Microsoft’s financial position is

very strong. As shown in its financial statement, the company has made
consistent growth in its profit over the years. In 2012, its profit is $XXX,
which grew to $XXX in 2013, and further to $XXX in 2014.
(student must continue with further discussion/elaboration).

From OTHER published articles/literature/magazines, has revealed that

there is a generally higher profit shown in the computer industry during
these years (Abdul Rahim, 2015).
Thus, the growth in profit gained by Microsoft is therefore consistent with
the industry.
(** this supporting evidence, ie Abdul Rahim (2015), searched from
journal/literature/magazines article must be cited here. The FULL
reference must then be placed in the reference list - see below)

2. Marketing ……… discuss the same way as in Finance above

3. ……… discuss the same way as above
4. ……… discuss the same way as above
5. ……… discuss the same way as above

Repeat the same for :

II) Weakness
III) Opportunities
IV) Threats

B. STRATEGY FORMULATION – developing strategies

- Prepare a SWOT Matrix to help you develop minimum 2 SO strategies, 2 WO

strategies, 2 ST strategies and 2 WT strategies. All of these are strategies which
the company can potentially implement in order to achieve its Long Term
objective (which you have developed earlier in Sect A above)
- From these SO,WO, ST, and WT strategies developed in this SWOT Matrix,
identify any 3 strategies only that the company can implement that will MOST
LIKELY help to achieve company’s Long Term objective
- Then use QSPM to help determine/choose only the BEST (1) strategy
among the above 3 strategies for the company
- Provide additional explanation to support the attractiveness of your chosen
ONE best strategy as determined through QSPM

C. STRATEGY IMPLEMENTATION AND CONTROL

- Show (in a Gantt Chart) detail planning/activity, time and estimated cost/budget
to implement the final (one) best chosen strategy as determined earlier from
QSPM.
- The Gantt Chart example I have shared with students during seminar, shows the
minimum. You may be creative in structuring/developing your Gantt Chart, but it
must have the minimum components (as in the example given)

What makes an ‘A+’ report:

grammar error
