of causes or effect of smoking
cigarette in our body and while you
are still young if you are smoking,
this quit it for the sake of your
health.

F. Lesson Proper/Discussion
Today, we will be learning about the
effects of smoking on our body.

(The teacher show an example


picture of tobacco plant, cigarette
sticks and the “Banga” using by the
Indigenous people.)

Tobacco is a tall, leafy plant,


originally grown in South and
Central America, but Nicotiana
tabacum or sometimes, called “common
tobacco” is preferred for producing
present day cigarettes.
According to the World Health
Organization (WHO), tobacco
smoking and chewing is the second
leading cause of death around the
world.

Thousands of Filipino teenagers


smoke every day. They know that
these are bad for their health, but
still they smoke and drink alcohol.

Imagine that the body organs can


talk. What do you think will they tell
if someone he/she smokes or drink
alcohol?

cigarette)

This is one model of cigarette and if


we try to look at what’s inside of it,
there are many contents or chemical
they placed.
Class, who wants to pick a stick
inside the cigarette?

 Carcinogens- are substances which


cause cancer.
 Nicotine - the addictive drug found
in tobacco products like cigarettes is
a poisonous stimulant.
 Ammonia – a chemical found
cleaning in cleaning fluids.
 Formaldehyde – a very poisonous
liquid that is used to preserve dead
bodies.
 Cadmium – an extremely poisonous
and radioactive metal found in
batteries.

G. Evaluation

Let us now check your


understanding about the effects of

Yes, very good! If you start to


smoke, quit it while you are still
young because you will be getting
addicted if you do not stop. Smoking
is a hard habit to break because
tobacco contains the very addictive
chemical called nicotine.
