INTRODUCTION
TO
VIRTUALIZATION AND CLOUD COMPUTING
AIM: Steps for Installing VMware Workstation Pro. And create virtualization in
VMware. Install guest OS on the installed VMware.
REQUIRED S/W: VMware Workstation Pro, Windows 10 OS.
THEORY:
1. What are Virtual Machines?
• Virtual machine is a software computer that, like a physical machine, runs an
operating system
and applications.
• A virtual machine uses the physical resources of the physical machine on which
it runs, which is
called the host system.
• Virtual machines have virtual devices that provide the same functionality as
physical hardware, but with the additional benefits of portability, manageability,
and security.
INSTALLATION OF VMware ON WINDOWS 10:
Step 1:
Open VMware Workstation Pro wizard.
STEP 2:Accept the terms and agreement and Click Next Button to proceed with the
Installation.
STEP 3:Select the installation destination.
STEP 4:Choose the options for updating the software.
STEP 5:Select the Shortcuts to place on the desktop.
STEP 6:Click the Install button to proceed with the installation.
STEP 7: Installing of VMware workstation Pro
STEP 8:The installation is now completed. Click the Finish button to exit the installation
wizard.
STEP 9:CHANGE THE BIOS SETTINGS TO ENABLE THE
VIRTUALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Restart the PC and keep pressing F12 to go the Startup Device Menu. Select Enter Setup.
STEP 10:Select the advanced option. And go to the CPU setup.
STEP 11: Enable the Intel Virtualization Technology. And Press F10 to save and exit.
STEP 12: Click on the create new Virtual Machine tab to install any guest OS on the
VMware.
STEP 13: Choose the type of configuration you want.
STEP 14: A Guest Operating System Installation window will be open. Select the installer
disc image file option to load any operating system from the ISO folder.
STEP 15: Select the ISO file to start the installation
STEP 16:Name the virtual Machine and give the password and click next.
STEP 17:
Specifying Disk Capacity for a Virtual Machine –
• Give the maximum disk size as per your preference. By default it takes 20 GB.
• Click the option to store virtual disk as a single file or you want to split virtual disk into
multiple
files.
• Click on the next button after giving the details.
STEP 18: Click the finish button after you are satisfied with the configuration to create the
virtual machine.
STEP 19: The installation may take a while. After which the Ubuntu window will be
displayed and you have to provide the password to access the account.
STEP 20: You are all set to use the Ubuntu operating system on VMware.
CONCLUSION:
Hence, the Installation of VMware Workstation Pro and Installation of
guest OS has been performed.
