LP For Demo

This document contains a detailed lesson plan for a mathematics class on subtracting integers. The lesson plan outlines the objectives, references, materials, and value focus. It then provides a step-by-step learning procedure where the teacher will lead students in reviewing adding integers, performing a story problem activity to motivate subtracting integers, discussing the key concepts and rules for subtracting integers, working through examples, and having students practice with application problems in groups. The goal is for students to understand how to identify the rules, perform the operation, and develop a positive attitude regarding subtracting integers.

Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 10

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the Grade 7 students will be able to:
 identify the rules in subtracting integers
 perform the operation in subtracting integers
 develop positive attitude towards work

II. LEARNING TASK

Topic: Fundamental Operations of Integers: Subtracting Integers

References: Book: Mathematics - Grade 7 Learners Module, pp. 19-22

Materials : Laptop, Pentel pens, Envelopes, Cartolinas

Value focus : Critical thinking, Teamwork/Cooperation, Patience, Self - confidence

III. LEARNING PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A. DAILY ROUTINE
1. Prayer
Before we start, everybody please stand. Let us
bow down our heads and put our selves in the
(Students will pray together with the teacher.)
most holy presence of God.
(the teacher will play a short video for the
prayer)

2. Greetings Good morning Sir!

Good morning everyone!

3. Classroom Management (Students will arranged the chairs, pick up some

Before you take your seats, kindly arranged pieces of paper and dispose it properly.)
your chairs, pick up some pieces of paper
around you and dispose it properly. Thank you Sir!
Okay! you may take your seats.
None Sir!
4. Checking of Attendance
Who are absent today?
Very Good! It implies that you really love
Math.

B. ACTIVATING PRIOR KNOWLEDGE

1. Review
(The teacher recalls the students’ understanding (Students will watch the short video.)
of the previous topic about adding integers by
playing a short video.)

Class, let us watch a short video content that I

uploaded on Youtube.com about Addition on
Integers as a sort of our review.
Operations on Integers (Addition)

Rules in Adding Integers

1. In adding numbers having like signs, copy

the sign and add the two numbers.

Example:
-6 + -9 = -15

2. In adding numbers having unlike signs, find

the difference of the two numbers and copy the
sign of the number with the greater value.

Example:
9 + -12 = -3 (7 students go in front.)

C. LESSON DEVELOPMENT
1. Motivation / Activity

Before we proceed to our topic for today, let us (Students performing their character in the story.)
have an activity first.

The teacher will ask 7 students to stand in front

and let them form a line with proper social
distancing. The teacher narrates a scenario using (Student 1) There are 2 sons left with the queen.
the students as the characters of the story.

“ A queen has 7 sons. One day, the king asked their

3 sons to lead the group of soldiers to combat the

came back. The next day, 2 of their sons
volunteered to search and rescue their brothers.
Unfortunately, none of them came home again. (Student 2) Subtraction Sir!
Now, how many sons are with the queen now?”

2. Analysis
Based from the activity, the teacher asks the
following questions:
 How did you come up with this answer?

Excellent!
 What fundamental operation was involved
in the activity?
Very Good!

So, our topic for today is all about, (Student 1) These are positive or negative whole
Fundamental Operations on Integers: numbers.
Subtracting Integers

Objective:
At the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
(Student 2) It is the process of subtracting a number
 identify the rule in subtracting integers
from another.
 perform the operation in subtracting
integers
 develop positive attitude towards work

(Student 3) The parts of a Subtraction are minuend,

The teacher will ask the following questions: minus sign, subtrahend, equal sign and difference.
 What are integers?

Very Good!
Integers are positive or negative whole
numbers including zero.

 What is a subtraction?

Very Good!
Subtraction is a process of subtracting a
number from another or the inverse
process of addition.

 What are the parts of a Subtraction?

Brilliant!
The parts of a Subtraction are: (Students answers may vary)
Minuend – a number or quantity from
which another is subtracted.
Minus sign – it indicates subtraction
Subtrahend – a number or quantity to be
subtracted from another.
Equal sign – it indicates equality of value
Difference – is the result of subtracting
one number from another.
Example:
8–5=3
8 is the minuend (Students will interact with the teacher.)
– minus sign
5 is the subtrahend
= equal sign
3 is the difference

 How do we subtract integers? (Student 4) Our subtrahend is positive six

There are lots of rules on Operations of

Integers in Subtraction.

For us to make it easy to understand, Let

us stick to this one rule.

Rule: In subtracting integers, change the

sign of the subtrahend and proceed to Yes Sir!
addition.

Example 1:
8–6=?
In elementary mathematics, it is very
clear that the answer is 2. But let us (Student 1) Our subtrahend is negative four.
answer this example by using our rule.

Let us identify first what is our

subtrahend.
So, what is our subtrahend?
Very Good!
Our subtrahend is positive six.
So, we have to change it into negative six
(-6) and proceed to addition. Yes Sir!
Rewrite:
8–6=?
8 + -6 = 2 (Student 2) In subtracting integers, we solve it easily
Therefore, 8 – 6 = 2 by using the rule.
Is it clear?
(Student 3) In subtracting integers, change the sign of
Example 2: the subtrahend and proceed to addition.
9 – -4 = ?

Again, let us find first what is our (Student 4) We have to identify first what is our
subtrahend. subtrahend, then change its sign and proceed to
What is our subtrahend? addition.
That is correct!
Our subtrahend is negative four (-4).
So, we have to change it into positive
four (4) and proceed to addition.
Students will do the Lalala clap.
Rewrite:
9 – -4 = ?
9 + 4 = 13
Therefore, 9 – -4 = 13 Students will read the problem.
Is it clear class?

3. Abstraction
Now class, in subtracting integers, how do we
solve it easily?

Very good!

What is the rule in subtracting integers?

That is correct! Students will interact with the teacher.

How do we apply the rule in subtracting

integers properly?

Brilliant!

Is there any question?

Is there any clarification?
Students will do Oppa clap
4. Application
Now that you already know how to subtract
integers, we will have our activity and apply it
in real life problems and situation. (students’ answers may vary)

Group II Activity
As of February 2022, Metro Manila has 11,151
deaths recorded due to COVID – 19 while
Western Visayas has 4,362 deaths recorded. (students’ answers may vary)
What is the difference between Metro Manila
and Western Visayas deaths recorded?
Teamwork Sir.
Health Reminder: Speaking of COVID – 19, I
just want to remind you all my dear students,
that we should follow COVID – 19 standard
health safety protocols.

be arranged.

IV. EVALUATION

Direction: In a one whole sheet of paper, solve the problem involving permutations. (3 points each)

1. If Jun has 12 T - shirts, 6 pairs of pants, and 3 pairs of shoes, how many possibilities can he dress himself
up for the day?

2. In how many ways can Aling Rosa arrange 6 potted plants in a row?

3. Suppose that in a certain association, there are 12 selected members of the Board of Directors. In how
many ways can a president, a vice president, a secretary and a treasurer be selected from the board?

4. In how many ways can 5 people be seated around a circular table?

5. There are 8 basketball teams competing for the top 4 standings in order to move up to the semi - finals.
Find the number of possible rankings of the four top teams.

V. AGREEMENT

Students will review for a short quiz on Monday.
