Historical Context of Classicism

Historical context of CLASSICISM Neoclassicism was an artistic and architectural movement that drew inspiration from classical antiquity. It originated in the late 18th century through the 19th century in Europe. Key aspects included a focus on reason and intellect inspired by Enlightenment thinkers, as well as artistic styles that emulated classical Greek and Roman works through architecture, sculpture, and painting. Neoclassicism competed with Romanticism, which emphasized emotion and individual creativity over rational thought.

01 ★ Absolute monarchy leads to the Independence of
USA and French Revolution (1789).
Absolute monarchy leads to the Independence of USA and French revolution:

The French Revolution had an impact on the

politics and laws of the United States. When
the French Revolution began in 1789, Americans
were largely supportive of it. The United States
was allied with France at that time, and the hope
was that democratic reforms would turn France
into a more powerful ally against Britain.

This led to political division between the

Democratic-Republican party who supported the
revolution and the Federalist Party who wanted to
maintain a good trade relationship with Britain.
02 ★ Industrial revolution.
Industrial revolution
★ The Industrial revolution was the transition to new manufacturing processes in Great
Britain, continental Europe, and the United States,in the period from (1760-1840)

★ This transition included the process of change from an agrarian and handicraft
economy to one dominated by industry and machine manufacturing.

★ The main features in the Industrial Revolution technological, socioeconomic, and

cultural:
-the use of new basic materials, chiefly iron and steel.
-The use of new energy sources including both fuels and motive power, such as coal,
the steam engine ,electricity,and petroleum
-The invention of new machines, such as the spinning jenny and the power loom.
-the important developments in transportation and communication, including the
steam locomotive, steamship,automobile, airplane…
First industrial revolution

Second industrial revolution
★ The Second Industrial Revolution began in the 19th century with the
discovery of electricity and assembly line production.

★ Henry Ford (1863-1947) took the idea of mass production from a

slaughterhouse in Chicago: Pigs hung from conveyor belts and each
butcher did only part of the chopping job. Henry Ford carried these
principles into automotive production and drastically changed them in
the process. Where once a station assembled a complete car, vehicles
were now produced in partial stages on conveyor belts - significantly
faster and at lower cost.
03 ★ Science and technology.
Science and technology
TECHNOLOGY:

-Alanson crane patents a fire extinguisher.

-John Jonathon builds a practical form of typewriter in the united states.

04 ★ Changes in society.
Changes in society:
It was male dominated. Classism affected people
on an economical and emotional level. It divides
society into two parts. Those who have and
those who do not have, this mistreatment
mainly comes from the dominant more
in control groups of society, the rich. This
classification deals with equalities or inequalities
of economic, social, political, and ideological
dimensions of society.

➔ Neoclassicism is a revival of the many styles
and spirit of classic antiquity inspired
directly from the classical period,which
reflected the developments in philosophy
and other areas of the Age of
Enlightenment.It was originated in France
from the XVIII to the XIX centuries.

➔ During the XIX century the neoclassicism

competed against the romanisicism,because
the neoclassicism focused on
objectivity,reason,and intellect,while the
romanisicism focused on human
