Spartan (Class)

Spartan warriors are elite soldiers trained from birth for combat. They are discarded if found physically lacking as infants. Boys are then put through an extreme military training program called the Agoge that teaches them to fight, steal, and kill without showing pain or mercy. Spartan (Subclass)

Spartans are strong, and exceptionally well trained soldiers. They are trained to work as a unit, and use
their weapons with deadly efficiency. They share an unparalleled mastery of weapons and armor, and a
thorough knowledge of combat. They are well acquainted with death, both meeting it, and staring it
defiantly in the face.

Trained From Birth

When born all Spartan boys are inspected, if small, puny, sickly, or even misshaped the boy would be
quickly discarded. Then from the moment he could stand he was baptized the fire of combat. Taught to
never retreat and to never surrender because death on the battlefield as a Spartan was the greatest
glory he could achieve in his life. At the age of seven, as custom dictated in Sparta, the boy is taken from
his mother to be plunged in a world of violence.

Manufactured by hundreds years of Spartan warrior society, the boys would develop into the finest
soldiers the world as ever known. Known as the Agoge forces them to fight, starves them, forces them to
steal, and if inevitable to kill. However by rod and lash the boy would be punished if caught in the act of
stealing or killing, taught to show no pain and no mercy. He would be constantly tested. Tossed into the
wild, left to pit his wits and will against nature's fury. Finally his initiation would take place, a final test.
Sent to the wild for one challenging last hunt, but he would return to his people a Spartan or not a all.

· Spartan Warriors can only be Human

· Because of the Spartan way of training, they do not get any Human trait bonuses. Spartans must
sacrifice some humanity in training. No ability score increases and this includes the Human
Variant, so no two ability score increase, skill proficiency, nor a free feat.
· However, due to their legendary training a Spartan may choose one ability scores to start at 12,
as well all their ability scores will always rest at 10. (The Player will roll as normal to create ability
scores, but keep in mind that even if they roll bellow a 10 they will have that ability as a 10. Also
if the player would like they may chooses which one ability scores will start at 12 as a starting
modifying score. In gameplay, a Spartan can never have a negative ability score as it always rests
at 10 if the modifier goes into the negatives.
· Spartan Warriors are trained in only one place, Sparta.

Creating a Spartan Warrior

A spartan warrior, much like the fighter class, can be rolled in many different ways. The class shines a lot
when using a Lance (reach weapons) or sword, and a shield. The spartan warrior focuses on combat with
their specialized Dory, Xiphos, and Aspis. Those who model themselves on this spartan warrior's
combine rigorous training with physical excellence to deal devastating blows. The spartan warrior favors
the ways of the warrior, but they accept all other classes as long as they are neutral, chaotic, or lawful
good. Once they get along with someone, they will fight to the death along the side of them. Combat:
spartan warrior can act a few different ways in combat. They can take up a leadership role in a group
with ease. They can also be a loyal fighting companion and stick by your side. Sometimes though,
spartan warrior can explode and charge into battle without warning. They usually act one of two ways
while fighting. They fight the enemy dealing damage, or they take the damage for their companions.

The spartan warrior is known to pray to gods of battle. There are few exceptions though. The spartan
warrior usually prays before a long journey or great battle. Most spartan warrior worships Kord. Some
Lawful spartan warrior worships Heironeous. Some neutral spartan warrior worships St.Cuthbert or
Fharlanghn.

· Gain stronger fighting styles

· May not class outside of the class due to one solo profession, being a Spartan. This is a special
and very particular subclass. It may not be the type a normal character may be accustomed to
playing.

Built for War

Starting at 1st level, as a spartan, you have received trained in combat since birth, honing your reflexes
and strength. You have advantage on Strength (Athletics) and in Dexterity checks made during combat.

In addition, you add your proficiency bonus in attack rolls made with improvised weapons and on
damage rolls made with unarmed strikes.

Hardened Body
You have been selected since birth due to your physical complexion, and hardened and perfected your
body trough training. At 1st level, you add half your proficiency bonus in any checks made with Strength,
Dexterity or Constitution checks if you don't add your proficiency bonus to them.

Starting at 6th level you add your proficiency bonus in any Strength, Dexterity or Constitution checks,
and twice your proficiency bonus at 10th level.

feet equal to your Strength modifier.

The Arts of War - Spartan Training

During your time as a Spartan you have a specific style of fighting. While you still fight overall as a
Spartan you have come to lean towards certain fighting habits.

Shield & Spear Training

You use shields not just for protection but also for offense. You gain the following benefits while you are
wielding a shield. The spear is a simple weapon to learn, it rewards you for the time you have taken to
master it. Through your dedicated training to master the two, you hace gained special benefits;

· You gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls you make with a spear. You can a +1 bonus to your AC when
weilding a shield.

· When you use a spear, its damage die changes from a d6 to a d8, and from a d8 to a d10 when
wielded with two hands. (This benefit has no effect if another feature has already improved the
weapon’s die.)

· You can set your spear to receive a charge. As a bonus action, choose a creature you can see that
is at least 20 feet away from you. If that creatures moves within your spear’s reach on its next
turn, you can make a melee attack against it with your spear as a reaction. If the attack hits, the
target takes an extra 1d8 piercing damage, or an extra 1d10 piercing damage if you wield the
spear with two hands. You can’t use this ability if the creature used the Disengage action before
moving.

· As a bonus action on your turn, you can increase your reach with a spear by 5 feet for the rest of
your turn.

· If you take the Attack action on your turn, you can use a bonus action to try to shove a creature
within 5 feet of you with your shield.

· If you aren't incapacitated, you can add your shield's AC bonus to any Dexterity saving throw you
make against a spell or other harmful effect that targets only you.

· If you are subjected to an effect that allows you to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only
half damage, you can use your reaction to take no damage if you succeed on the saving throw,
interposing your shield between yourself and the source of the effect.

· While wielding a shield and spear, you can use the versatile damage for the spear, even when
wielding it in one hand. In addition, your spear is considered to have the reach property.

Battle Awareness
Spartans were trained to notice everything on the battlefield. They are trained to notice every
advantage, disadvantage, and small detail they can find that can turn the tide of battle. You gain
advantage on Perception(Wisdom) checks during combat.

Double Attack
Twice per encounter, a Spartan may attack with both his spear and shield or sword and shield (which
ever weapon is equipped currently) This attack may only have one target. The Spartan fluidly makes a
basic strike with his sword/spear then quickly transitions to a shield bash.

Shield Bash
While you are wielding a shield, you are able to attack fiercely with it. On your turn, when you take the
Attack action, you can make an attack with your shield as bonus. The shield is considered a simple
weapon you are proficient with, that deals 1d6 damage. On a hit, you can also shove the target as part of
the attack.

· At 5th level, when you hit the target with a shield, you stun the target, lasting until the end of
your next turn. In addition, on a hit with the shield, you increase the damage in 1d8.
· Every four level after 5th, the damage dealt by your shield bash increases by one damage dice.
Reaching 1d12 by 20th level.

When an enemy is hit by a shield bash, they have to roll a fortitude save (10 + Shield's Hardness +
characters's strength modifier). If they fail the fortitude save, they are knocked to the ground and
stunned for the rest of the round.must be within one size category.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain your uses
after a long rest.
· Shield Charge
· You are given the Charger feat for free. However, it differs in one unique way. When you perform
the charge you do not get to choose what action you do. At the end of your charge, you perform
what is called a shield bash, gaining the +5 bonus to the attack’s damage roll. As per the Shield
Bash feature, the target must roll a Fortitude check to determine if they remains standing or is
knocked prone and unable to attack.
DC = 10 + Shield's Hardness + characters's strength modifier

· Shield Wall
· By interlacing your shield with a ally who also has a sheilf, you are able to create what is called a
shield wall. By doing so, you are given half cover have a +2 bonus to AC and Dexterity saving
throws.

· Phalanx
· Unlike the shield wall, this maneuver requires you to be providing cover to an ally, must be
persforming a shield wall with multiple individuals; this extended shield wall surrounds an ally
and grants them three-quarters cover, has a +5 bonus to AC and Dexterity saving throws and
lasts until the start of your next turn.

· This is an upgraded version of the Shield Wall and benefits more than the shield user and an ally.

· Tortoise
· By interlocking your shield and forming a cicular formation like that of a tortois's shell. You are
able to provide total cover to everyone within that circle including the sheild bearer.

Armored over Unarmored

When you are wearing armor, you gain a +1 bonus to AC.
You must be using a shield to gain this function

Unarmored rather than Armored

While unarmored, your Armor Class equals 13 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use a shield and still
gain this benefit.

While unarmored, damage you take from nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage is
reduced by an amount equal to your Dexterity modifier.
You must be using a shield to gain this function

Block out the sun

You are so adept at shield combat that you are able block nearly any mundane ranged weaponry (arrow,
spear, etc). At 1st level whenever a successful non-magical ranged attack is made against you, you may
use your reaction and roll a 1d4 + your level, the damage is reduced by that amount.

Fighting Instincts
When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you add your proficiency modifier to your armor class.
· At 3rd level, you honed your instincts and you learn to anticipate danger. You can give yourself
advantage on Initiative checks.

· Starting at 5th level, you gain Uncanny Dodge; when an attacker that you can see hits you with
an attack, you can use your reaction to halve the attack's damage against you.

· Beginning at 7th level, you become more evasive; you can nimbly dodge out of the way of
certain area effects, such as a red dragon's fiery breath or an Ice Storm spell. When you are
subjected to an effect that allows you to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage,
you instead take no damage if you succeed on the saving throw, and only half damage if you fail.

· Beginning at 18th level, you become more elusive in your defensive capabilities; you are so
evasive that attackers rarely gain the upper hand against you. No attack roll has advantage
against you while you aren't incapacitated.

This Is Where We Hold Them

At the 4th level, you can, as a bonus action, release a powerful shout 'Battle Cry' to summon the spirits
of ancient spartan warriors. This shout grants you a +2 bonus to AC and +2 to attack roll, and it lasts a
number of rounds equal to 1 + your warrior level. You can use this ability again after a short rest.

The very shout of your voice can make your enemies quiver. You can now use an action to attempt to
frighten someone. When you do so, choose one creature that you can see within 20 feet of you. If that
creature can hear or see you, it must succeed a Wisdom saving throw ( DC) or be frightened for a
number of rounds equal to 1 + your warrior level. The creature can make another saving throw at the
end of each turn to end the effect.

DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier

· At 9th level, you can target up to two creatures within range, as a bonus action.

· At 13th level, you can target all hostile creatures within 20 feet, as a bonus action.

· At 17th level, you can use this feature as a reaction when a hostile creature moves within 20 feet
of you.

So That We May Get Close to the Enemy

At the 5th level, the spartan can concentrate all his might on the opponents around him. You can attack
twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn. If this second attack results in
kill, you are allowed one additional 5-foot step and a third melee attack as a bonus action. You may
continue to do this as long as your attack results in a kill and you take no more than a 5-foot step
between attacks. Your total movement this turn cannot exceed your maximum speed.
Note that this is treated as an “Extra Attack” feature found in other classes.

These Are Sparta’s Walls

It was common to see a spartan knock back an opponent with their shield and follow up with a fatal
attack with their sword or spear. At level 9, you gain a +2 to damage while you have a shield, also after
making a successful Shield Bash you may take another action to make a melee attack with your primary
weapon. If the primary weapon has the thrown property, you may throw the weapon within the attack
range it possesses.

you gain the blessing of the hero-king Leonidas, any spear/javelin throw attack roll at long range doesn't
impose disadvantage with a spear/ javelin thrown attack roll.

instead of falling unconscious, or dying out right, you may roll a Constitution save to be reduced to 1 hit
point instead.

attack by 5 feet. When level 17 receive a +1 bonus to armor and damage when in combat with your
shield and spear in hand. Furthermore, whenever you are in melee combat, if your opponent misses an
attack against you then your next attack against that opponent will generate a critical hit on a natural roll
