Statement of Purpose
Education is a life-long process and every experience teaches us something. As an individual, I have always
learnt how to get up after the fall and still face the world bravely. I have always nurtured the ambition to
notably contribute to the field of Science, how science is practiced, how to ask questions and, through a
process of reasoning and experimenting, find answers to them. I believe that only an intensive study and
comprehensive research work in my field of interest would put me on the right track to achieve my goals.
As a stepping stone in my junket towards pursuing my career in biological science, I opted for Science
group with Biology as my major. Biology, being the study of life, always attracted me and I wanted to learn
more and more about it. My growing interest and a passion to know the biological world propelled me
towards the undergraduate and post graduate studies in Botany subject from The Maharaja Sayajirao
University of Baroda, Gujarat. It is very well known university in nation.
Fascinated by the virtual application of technology in biology, I hereby apply for Master of science in
Biotechnology. Fundamentally, biotechnology is an applied science having practical applications that serves
the society. I also wanted to do the same, and then I have decided to pursue research as a long term career in
field of Biological Science. Since, this has been an intriguing expedition into life. The existent body of
knowledge about gene mutation and recombination, development of stem cells, tissue culture and plant
hybridization techniques made me realize the very fact that DNA and RNA were the masterpieces of
technological miracles in biology.
I studied various subjects described in our syllabus like Molecular genetics, cell biochemistry, and
microbiology, paralleled with laboratory practices which exposed me to cell culturing, chromatography
methods, electrophoresis, blotting, DNA ligation and hybridization, colorimetry, spectrophotometry, PCR,
honed my application oriented skills. Apart from the books, we also formed a group discussed out the new
developments in science. Our discussion was more concentrated on Cell and Molecular Biology. While
performing any experiments, we always play with cells. We cannot imagine life without cells. Cells,
structural unit of life, have fascinated me by its importance and uses. Studying it addresses fundamental
questions about the functions of cells and mechanisms that determine the development of those functions
such as: How do cells function? What are the molecular mechanisms governing the characteristics of cells?
What determines the life span of a cell? How do cells cooperate during development and in the adult to form
an organism? How do defects in cellular function lead to disease? Finding answers to such question gave me
new insights and enhance my interest and curiosity to know and learn more in the same.
Throughout my undergraduate and graduate years I have constantly tried to give in my best in whatever I
do. During my Masters as a dissertation project I worked on “ Current Status Of Roadside Floristic
diversity”. Dessertation work was done in various part of Baroda city, Gujarat. Along with diversity of plant
species, Morphometric study of plants also been worked out. My guide prof. Vinay. M. Raole showed me
the real world of reaserch outside the laboratory. Apart from gaining a good research experience for one
year, I learnt the finesse of setting a target, planning, executing and achieving the desired target required for
a successful research.
I have also participated in national seminar on “Impact of climate change on Biodiversity” organized by
department of Botany, M.S.University Of Baroda and Indian Society of Geomatics. I made a model of
‘paper industry’ in science exhibition organized by Faculty of Science,M.S.University Of Baroda. Apart
from these, I attended various conferences like “4th National Conference Of Konkan Geographers
Association” organized by Deparment of Geography, M.S.University Of Baroda. It taught me to present my
ideas confidently. The sharing of ideas and new research has always been a great interaction with many
scientists when we attened seminars.
I have completed course of ‘Medical Lab Technician’ conducted by the Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Vadodara. I
studied very interesting subjects during this course like Haematology, Clinical Chemistry and Immunology.
I think that only skills and knowledge is not enough to reach the goals, but also required to build up the
attitude, learning from mistakes, persisting in the face of adversity, vision, empathy for others, human
relation skills, communication skills and many more. So, apart from learning I was actively involved in
extra curricular activities. During school days I learnt classical music for 6 years and I won 3rd price in
painting competition held by very well known institute Lalit kala Academiy.

David Starr Jordan.
Having acquired a good deal of knowledge and confidence from my masters Degree, with wisdom and skill
right at my hands, it behooves to look forward for an opportunity to establish my virtue in the enterprising
field of Biotechnology. My goal is to gather insights in the field of biotechnology by pursuing my Masters
degree.
I look upon the graduate program in your department as an avenue to hone my skills and to help me reach
the culmination of my scientific career. I have that required aptitude , patience and dedication to study life
sciences . I feel that your university with its ideal infra-structure, comprehensive facilities and
competent faculty in the field of my interest would be an ideal place for me to pursue graduate studies. I
am eager to study in such an environment where I can broaden my horizons of knowledge. I assure you that
I would keep up my diligence and good demeanor during the course. I hope you find my purpose definitive
and I fit in to your image of a promising student.
