PUMP PACKER
Description:
‘’ESP’’ Packer, is designed to facilitate the use of an Electric Submersible Pump
(EPS). The packer can be provided with threaded connections to accept a pack-off
power cable feed-through system will cable pigtails, or a drop-through penetrator.
Additional optional ports allow venting of annular pressure, fluid injection through
the packer, and/or instrument wire port bypass.
Features & Advantages:
x The “ESP” packer is specifically designed to be run with electric submersible
pumps, and is not a modified version of a dual-string production packer. It’s
simple design and reduced number of parts provide easy retrieval and redress.
x Easily set and released: Hydraulically set, straight pull/shear release.
x Short, compact design: Its length (less than 3 feet) makes it easier to run and
handle. Permits reliable installation where longer packers have problems.
x Separate gas venting string: No venting through primary or secondary strings.
x Designed to fit special needs: Optional ports through packer.
x No relative movement between tubing and cable: Eliminates cable strain.
x Mechanically locked in set position: A body lock ring holds the packer in the set
position.
x Double-grip, caged slips: Eliminates the need for hydraulic hold-downs. Top
and bottom cones drive slips into the casing wall and hold loads from either
direction.
x Threaded connections can be adapted to most other feed-through systems.

Running/Setting Procedure
The ESP Packer is set by pressuring the tubing string connected to the Large Bore (1 String) of the
Packer. A Seating Nipple, Ball Seat, Hydro-trip Sub, or other temporary plugging device must be located
below the Packer.
1. Run the ESP Packer to the desired depth.
2. Temporarily plug tubing string connected to the Large Bore of the Packer.
3. Pressure tubing slowly to 2500 psi to shear all pins and set the Packer. Hold for five minutes.
4. Bleed off pressure and remove plug, or in-
5. Crease to pump out ball.
Setting Sequence
Pressure applied to the plugged tubing enters the Packer at the port in the Body above the Piston. As the
pressure differential increases to 800-1,100 psi, the pins on the housing and piston shear. At this same
pressure differential (800 -1,100 psi) the pins in the Slip Cage and Lower Cone Shear. As the
pressure differential increases to 1,200 - 2,000 psi, the pins at the Slip Cage and Upper Cone then shear,
forcing the slips outward to the casing wall as the Upper Cone moves down- ward. Holding 2500 psi
ensures that the Packing Element is compressed.
Releasing Procedure
The ESP Packer is equipped with a shear wire. Releasing is accomplished by application of tension to
the tubing string sufficient to shear the shear wire.

Releasing Sequence
Up-strain greater than the selected shear wire kit value allows the Packing Element to relax. Continued
upward movement of the tubing string and Body causes the Split Ring to lift the Packing Element and
Upper Gage Ring. The Upper Cone contacts the Cage Shoulder and picks up the Slips and Slip Cage on
the Upper Cone Shoulder, releasing the setting force locked in the Packer. The Lower Cone is carried by
the Cap Screw in the Cage. The Packer may then be retrieved from the well.

Storage recommendations:
1. Packers shall be protected from the effects of abrasives and chemicals that can cause product
damage.
2. Packers with elastomeric materials shall not be stored in areas where Ozone is produced by
electrical devices or in the vicinity of radiation equipment. Storage of elastomeric materials shall
take into account the effect of shelf life of that material. Before storage of equipment apply seal
grease on the seals, wrap in oil paper and tape the oil paper.
3. Exposed thread connections shall be properly grease lubricated and shall be protected with
thread protectors
Safety Precautions for Assembly and Dispatch/ Shipment:
1. Do not clamp weak portion in the vice.
2. Apply grease to all the threads for easy assembly and disassembly.
3. Wrap oil paper over the product to protect it from any natural Reaction in the environment.
4. Handle all the packed boxes with crane.
SAFETY PRECAUTION FOR END USER:
1. Handle all the packed boxes with crane.
