The PowerFlex 7000 Drive uses Current Transformers to sense the Drive Input Currents, and
uses Hall-Effect Transducers (ABB is the present manufacturer, LEM is the past manufacturer) to
sense the DC Link and Drive Output Currents.
The currents from the secondary of these devices pass through ‘Burden’ resistors, where a
voltage is generated. This voltage is what is sensed by the drive control as the current in the
various sections of the drive. The burden resistors are located on the Signal Conditioning Board
– Line for the CTs and the DC Link sensors, and on the Signal Conditioning Board – Machine for
the Motor sensors.
For some drives, the current level is high enough that the resistors on the boards are not
sufficient to keep the voltage low enough to avoid hitting the SCB input maximum voltage. We
then use a second parallel resistor connected externally to the SCB on the phoenix connector for
the CT/sensors input.
For other drives, the current is so low that the drive does not have good resolution of the voltage
signal, so we have lowered the CT and sensors ratios to increase the secondary current and
therefore the voltage into the Signal Conditioning Boards.
The following table illustrates the current breakpoints. Use the current shown on the Nameplate
(DRIVE RATED AMPS) as the guideline for using this table.

Some Liquid Cooled drives rated less than 575 Amps, that were manufactured before 28/08/2003 might have the
following motor current sensor 4000:1 part # (80026-139-01) instead of the above 5000:1 part # (80026-140-01).
