COLLEGE OF TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT 1

CHAPTER 3

Research Design

This research project uses a descriptive method and focuses on the

interaction between the tourist and the destination. Descriptive research is

devoted to the gathering of information about prevailing conditions or

situations for the purpose of description and interpretation. This type of research

method is not simply amassing and tabulating facts but includes proper

analyses, interpretation, comparisons, identification of trends and relationships.

(Dr. YP Aggarwal 2008).

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of this study are the residents and tourists of Butuan

City, Agusan del Norte comprising of One Hundred (100) respondents,

male/female who already visited the Buod Eco Park. Each respondent is given

questionnaires to answer questions about their experience of the heritage site

and supply the information that we need. The answers of the respondents are

assessed to come up with conclusions of the study.

Research Instrument

The researchers created survey questionnaires to assess Bood Eco Park

from respondents’ viewpoints. The researchers used this process as a roadmap

as they created their study and assessed the entire Bood Eco Park. The

researchers have created their own questionnaires. The questionnaire is

consisted of two parts. Part I of the research instrument consists of the items

which gathers respondents profile such as their age, sex and status. Part II of

the research instrument consists of the answer sheet that have numbers 1-20 with

its corresponding boxes where the answer will be inserted.

Validity

Validity is concerned with the meaning and interpretation of a scale”

(Bannigan & Watson, 2009). In general, therefore, validity measures, if the

design of the study is appropriate for its purpose and whether the conclusions

drawn from the results, are indeed logical

The accuracy with which a method measures what it is meant to

measure is referred to as its validity. When research has high validity, it delivers

conclusions that correlate to real physical or social properties, traits, and

variations. The validity, like dependability, is a method of evaluating the

quality of a research study. The degree to which the results measure what they

are supposed to measure is referred to as validity. A study's validity relates to its

correctness.

Reliability

The reliability of research methodology refers to whether the same

results can be reproduced several times. If your research methods yield

consistent results, they are likely dependable and unaffected by external

circumstances. This useful information can assist you in determining

whether your research methods are correctly collecting data that you can use

to support the next work in your field studies, reviews, and experiments.

(Editorial Team, 2021).

In addition, in psychology research dependability refers to the

consistency of a research study or measuring test (Dr. Saul McLeod, 2013).

Data Gathering Procedure

The study aims to “Assess Buod Eco Park as a Cultural Heritage: Basis

for Intervention”.

 The researchers came up with the idea and were checked by Mr. Earl

Niñofranco.

 The researchers began gathering evidence-based studies and literature

to supplement the research.

 The researchers were able to obtain survey methods with enough

literature and studies through comprehensive reading to serve as a

useful source for the questionnaire.

 Before releasing the questionnaire to the respondents, the draft of the

questionnaire was checked by the mentor and panel of experts for

validation.

 The finalized anchored questionnaire was then checked by the panel of

experts and the letter of permission was also checked by the Office of

Student Affairs and Services for validation before conducting the

survey.

 After data collection, the researchers analyzed and interpreted the

results with the help of a statistician.

 Thereafter, the findings were then consolidated to formulate

conclusions and intervention plans.

Statistical Treatment

Statistical Data Treatment for data analysis, frequency and percentage

were utilized to determine the mean was utilized to determine the findings

based on the respondents' profiles.

In answering the two-part questionnaire, the respondents were asked to

rate each of the statement using five-point rating scale as shown below:

Range Description
4.50 – 5.00 Strongly Agree
3.50 – 4.49 Agree
2.50 – 3.49 Neutral
1.50 – 2.49 Disagree
1.00 – 1.49 Strongly Disagree

Ethical Consideration

The researchers have considered some ethical issues while conducting

the study. The researchers will keep all the personal details of the respondents

confidential. For example, the researchers will use pseudonyms and

anonymous as replacements for the respondents’ name.

Moreover, the researchers will record and tabulate all the data in a

professional way. The data, results, methods and procedures are collected

without any manipulation.

The researchers will explain all about the research clearly. This is to

respect the respondents’ rights as participants. This will help them become

aware of the research objectives and aims in learning. Furthermore, the

researchers will not threaten nor force the respondents to participate in this

study. They also have the freedom to withdraw if they want to. They can participate

and contribute in this research in their own will.
