Ethics With Peace Studies: Norms Values Moral Standards

This document discusses the differences between moral and non-moral standards. Moral standards involve rules about right and wrong actions that affect people, while non-moral standards are matters of personal taste or preference that do not affect others. Some key differences are that moral standards force others to act accordingly, affect other people, are based on impartial considerations, and deal with matters that can help or harm humans, animals, and the environment. In contrast, non-moral standards manage individual aspirations, do not force actions on others or affect other people, and rely more on authority, tradition or self-interest. Examples given of non-moral standards include etiquette, laws, and aesthetics.
