To the Students:

In this Self Learning Kit, you will be introduced to different learning


activities preparing you to be skillful before you take the plunge into the world
of work as a hardware service provider and to feel more confident while
providing support where needed. Indeed, as learners of hardware servicing,
you are a crucial link in the emergency response process. Ideally, everyone
should know what to do in an emergency situation, but proper training can
help an individual provide basic care.
To get the most from this Learning Kit, you need to do the following:
1. Begin by reading and understanding the Learning Outcome/s and
Performance
Standards. These tell you what you should know and be able to do
at the end of this Module.
2. Do the required Learning Activities and Assessment tools. Please
have paper and a pen to write down your answers.
3. Demonstrate what you learned by doing what the Activity directs you
to do.
4. You must be able to apply what you have learned in another activity
or in real life situation.
5. Accomplish the Scoring Rubrics for you to know how well you
performed. Each Lesson also provides you with references and
definition of key terms for your guide. They can be of great help. Use
them fully.
6. This Learning Kit is good for 1 week. After mastering the lessons,

At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:

Color affects a picture. You should understand colors and color
combination to improve your images.

COLOR DESCRIPTION

Changing Brightness and Contrast


Changing brightness and contrast of an image is important if your
image is very bright or very dark. This is a simple way to adjust highlights
and shadows of your images.
1. On the Menu Bar, click Image, click Adjustment
2. Click Brightness/Contrast
3. When the dialog box appears slide the adjustments

The Brightness/Contrast window will appear and you can now adjust
the images’ brightness or contrast. You can adjust by using the slider or by
typing the values in Brightness/Contrast box.

You can also automatically change the brightness or contrast of an


image by doing the following:

1. On the Menu bar, click Image then click Adjustment
2. Click Auto Contrast to adjust your contrast automatically.

Changing the Background Color


You may change the background color or place a color on a white
background.
1. On the Tools panel, click the Foreground Color button and when the
Color Picker dialog box appears, click a color and click OK.
2. On the Tools panel, click the Paint Bucket and click on the
background of the image.

Blending Colors
You may blend the color of the background of your image.
1. On the Layers panel, click the background layer.
2. Click Gradient tool.
3. Click the Foreground Color and when the Color Picker appears,
select a color.
4. On the Options bar, select the gradient style you want to apply.
5. Click on the bottom of the image and drag it to the top like drawing a
line and the gradient.
6. You can also drag the mouse diagonally, vertically or horizontally.

The Dodge and Burn Tools


The Dodge and Burn Tools brighten or darken a specific area of an
image respectively. This tool is like the Brightness and Contrast tool except
that it only chooses the area to lighten or darken. The Sponge tool adjusts
saturation of an area. This tool serves as a brush where you can select an
area to edit.

1. On the Tools Panel, click the Dodge tool.


2. Brush your mouse on the area you want to lighten or darken.

Adjusting Levels
Adjusting Level command lets you make adjustments to highlights,
mid-tones and shadows of you images. You can do this by going to the Menu
Bar and click Image>Adjustments>Levels. The Level window will appear
and you can now adjust the levels of your image. To automatically adjust the
levels of your image, on the Menu Bar, select Image, click Adjustments and
then select Auto Level.

Adjusting Hue and Saturation


You can adjust the saturation of the image to modify the color intensity.
You can also adjust the hue of an image to shift the component colors. On
the Menu Bar, click Image>Adjustments>Hue and Saturation.

Adjusting Color Balance


You can use the color balance to change the amount of specific
colors in your image.
1. On the Menu Bar, click Image, click Adjustments and click Color
Balance.
2. The Color Balance dialog box will appear and you can now adjust the
color balance by typing numbers in the number box or by moving the
slider.

Applying the Blur and Sharpen Tools


You can blur or sharpen the area of an image by selecting the Blur tool
or the Sharpen tool. You can find the tools at the Tools panel. By clicking the
Blur icon triangle, three hidden tools will appear.

Choose between three tools. The Blur tools blurs the image of a
certain area. Sharpen tool sharpens an area of the image. The smudge tool
creates a Smudge from an area of an image to create an effect.

The Stamp Tool


The Stamp tool helps you retouch some of the images or background
that you would like to improve. This retouching tool is useful for digital photos
and images.
The Stamp tool paints one part of an image over another part of the
same image of the same color. This tool copies a color that you have
selected from the image and put it over to another area of the image from
the color that you have selected.

1. On the Tools panel, click the Stamp tool.
2. Press the Alt key and click the color you want to copy and release
the mouse
3. Click on the area you want to place the color that you have selected.
