1. Define briefly the following (Be specific): (4 points)
a. Jam density b. Time mean speed
c. Spacing 4. Highway capacity
2. A car with a speed of 80 knvhr is running on a crest vertical curve, which intersects at a station of
100+00 and an clevetion of 100m. ‘The erest vertical curve has a +2% grade and a descending 3%
grade, Calculate the minimum length of the vertical curve ‘that satisfy stopping sight distance. Also,
check the California appearance criteria, round up the vertical curve length to the next greatest 20m.
Calculate the elevations of the vertical curve for even 40'm for the calculated veitical curve length.
‘Also, calculate the elevation and the station of the highest point. (11 points)
% Second Part (15 points)
1) Define the following terms: G points) Vitti. degree ct id
1- Atrip 2 Trip types 3- Trip purpose
4- Transport system components 5- Trip generation
2) There is a city consists of 3 zones a, b, c. It is required to use the average growth factor
method in order to obtain the future inter zonal trips if you know that the production and
attraction factors growth factor for these three zones are given in the Origin/ Destination matrix.
From the roadside origin-destination survey, it was found that the existing inter-zonal trips are as
