MOUNTAINEERING CHECKLIST
Hiking and mountaineering are not easy recreational activities. It takes much time to travel, hike, and
climb a mountain. It is important for a hiker and a climber to make sure that he/she has a backpack that
is loaded with important things for survival, safety, and basic needs.
The 10 Essentials
Navigation Map Always carry a detailed map of the
Compass area you will hike or climb.
GPS Compass is an important navigating
tool.
GPS is optional, but make sure to
bring extra batteries for it.
Sun Protection Sunglass To protect your eyes, you need high
Sunscreen quality sunglasses. Have 2 pairs, in
case one gets lost or damaged.
Lip balm
For skin protection, bring sunscreen
protection with SPF 30 or higher to
avoid skin burning and skin aging.
Use lip balm to prevent lips from
becoming dry.
Insulation Shirts Mountain weather changes rapidly.
Jackets Always bring rain gears and extra
clothes. You may need to wear

HIKING TIPS, GUIDELINES AND ETIQUETTE
A hiker must observe the proper etiquette for his/her safety and protection. Following guidelines also
help in the conservation of the precious natural environment while you enjoy a safe hike.
1. Make a Checklist
Prepare all the necessary equipment for your activity. o Bring enough clothes, food, water, and
other supplies for the hike
2. Be informed!
Research about the place you will hike.
Get the latest trail map of the arca you wish to go to.
Tell someone or your relatives about your hike so they would know where to find you
3. Hike in a Team
Avoid hiking alone!
Join an expedition team
Group hiking has great advantages.
It helps you to meet new people.
It lets you spend quality time with your friends and family.
4. Always stay on the trail, to avoid any chance of getting lost.
5. If two parties meet on a tight spot on a steep trail, the group that is going uphill has the right of
way.
6. Keep an eye on everyone and ensure that no one falls behind or gets into a difficulty.
7. Avoid making loud noise while hiking
