DLL Construction of Triangles

This document is a daily lesson log for a 7th grade mathematics class. The lesson covered the construction of triangles. It provided 3 learning objectives for students to be able to recognize triangle terms, apply steps to construct triangles, and appreciate the importance of triangles. The lesson discussed the primary and secondary parts of triangles. It then demonstrated steps to construct triangles when given the lengths of 3 sides, 1 side and 2 angles, or 2 sides and 1 angle. Students completed an activity constructing triangles using given measurements. The lesson concluded with generalizing what was learned about the parts of triangles and how they are constructed.

C. Preparing San Juanico Bridge was designed by engineer Arvin Valderama and Christian
examples/instances of Meynard Barnal and constructed over San Juanico Strait. It is considered as one of
the new lesson the country's most important bridges, as it connects the two most populated islands
of Visayas: Samar and Leyte. It is one of the longest bridges in the country and
stretches for 2.16 kilometers connecting Tacloban City on Leyte Island with the
municipality of Sta. Rita in Samar Island. The bridge was built during the
administration of former president Ferdinand Marcos in 1973 and was inaugurated
on June 12, 1973. The bridge is composed of 20 spans which span a total length of
2.16 kilometers across the San Juanico Strait. The bridge is considered by the
government as a main tourist destination of Tacloban.
Integration: The San Juanico Bridge also serves as an important role for both the
tourism and economies of the islands of Samar and Leyte. Just like what we learned
in Araling Panlipunan there are lots of tourist spots here in Philipines that will help
to grow our economy.

D. Discussing new A triangle is a polygon with exactly three sides and three angles. The
concept 1
basic parts of the triangle are the sides, vertices and angles.
E. Discussing new
concept 2
These are the secondary parts of a triangle.
Thus, every triangle has:

 three altitudes,
 three angle bisectors; and
 three medians

In constructing triangles, you need the following materials:

Using these different parts, you can construct triangles if you are given the
following:

A. length of three sides

B. length of one side and two angles

C. length of two sides and one angle

A. Steps in constructing triangles given the lengths of three sides:

Example: Construct a triangle with sides 3 cm, 5 cm and 6 cm.

STEPS:

1. Draw the longest side using a ruler.

2. Open the pair of compasses until they are as wide as the second length. Draw an
arc from one endpoint of your longest side above the line.

3. Open the pair of compasses until they are as wide as the third length. Draw an
arc from the other endpoint of your longest side above the line.

4. Join point of the intersection of the arcs to the points of your longest side using a
ruler.

5. Erase the arc.

B. Steps in constructing triangles given the length of one side and two
angles.

Example: Construct a triangle with one side measures 5 cm, and two

angles measure 60° 𝑎𝑛𝑑 40°.

STEPS:

1. Draw the given side.

2. From one endpoint of the given side, use a protractor to measure the first given
angle. Put a construction mark.

3. Use a ruler to draw a line from the endpoint of your given side to the
construction mark.
4. From the other endpoint of the given side, use a protractor to

measure the second given angle. Put a construction mark.

5. Use a ruler to draw a line from the other endpoint of your given side to the
construction mark.

6. Erase the extra parts of the lines.

C. Steps in constructing triangles given the lengths of two sides and

one angle.
Example: Construct a triangle with sides measure 8 cm and 6cm and one angle
measure 45°.

STEPS:

1. Draw the longest side using a ruler.

2. From one endpoint of the given side, use a protractor to measure

the given angle. Put a construction mark.

3. Use a ruler to draw a line from the endpoint of your given side to the
construction mark.

4. Draw the third side of the triangle.

5. Erase the extra parts.

F. Developing Mastery Activity

Direction: Construct a triangle using the following given.

1. Construct a triangle ABC in which BC = 6 cm, CA = 5 cm and AB = 4 cm.

2. Construct a right triangle XYZ in which ∠Y = 90°, XY = 5 cm and YZ = 7 cm.

3. Construct a triangle STU in which ∠T = 60°, ∠U = 70° and TU = 7.5 cm.

application and skills
in daily living

Triangles aren't just mathematically significant, they are also fundamental to the
way we build our environments, both physical and virtual. Triangles are special
because they are exceptionally strong. Out of all the two-dimensional shapes we
can make out of straight struts of metal, only a triangle is rigid.

Example: Triangles can be used to make trusses. Trusses are used in many
structures, such as roofs, bridges, and buildings.

H. Making generalization To generalize what students have learned, the teacher will ask the questions below:
and abstraction about
the lesson 1. What are the Primary parts of the triangles?

 Sides
 Vertices
 Angles

2. What are the Secondary parts of the triangles?

 Altitude
 Angles bisector
 Median

3.What are the different parts used in constructing triangles?

 Length of three sides

 Length of one side and two angles
 Length of two sides and one angle

remediation.

c. Did the remedial lesson work?

No. of learners who have caught
