San 18Cs822 Mod 5 Short Notes

The document provides notes for the VTU short notes on SAN 18CS822 MOD 5. It covers key topics in data replication including local vs remote replication, consistency models for replicated file systems and databases, and types of remote replication such as host-based, storage array-based and network-based. It also discusses synchronous vs asynchronous replication and disk-buffered workflows.

SAN 18CS822 MOD 5 SHORT NOTES

VTU short notes by YouTuber Afnan Marquee. The notes are in simple format for quick
learning. For video explanation, check out my YouTube Channel!

If a local outage or disaster occurs, fast data restore and restart is essential to ensure business
continuity (BC).

Replication is one of the ways to ensure BC. It is the process to create an exact copy (replica)
of data. These replica copies are used for restore and restart operations if data loss occurs.

Replication can be classified into two major categories: local and remote.
Local replication refers to replicating data within the same array or the same data center.
Remote replication refers to replicating data at a remote site.
It has the following topics:
1. Consistency of a Replicated File System
2. Consistency of a Replicated Database
There are three types of remote based replications:
1) Host based
2) Storage array based
3) Network based
Synchronous and Asynchronous are same as the previous one where former has to store data
in storage before it responds to host, whereas the latter has to first inform host and then perform
the commit operation at the storage.

Disk-buffered workflow
There are 4 major topics to be covered in this chapter:
1) Information Security Framework
2) Risk Triad (3 subtopics)
3) Storage Security Domains (3 subtopics)
4) Security Implementations in Storage Networking (3 subtopics)
