Activity 1

This document contains instructions for an activity in an engineering mechanics course at Batangas State University. Students are asked to answer 3 problems using concepts like the parallelogram law and resolving forces into components. They must find the magnitude and direction of resultant forces given various force combinations. The last problem involves determining the resultant moment produced by forces about a given point. The instructions emphasize answering with honesty and expressing final answers to 4 decimal places.

Activity 1

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: Answer all the problems with full honesty and integrity. Box
and express your final answer in four decimal places.

1. Determine the magnitude of the resultant force and its direction measured counterclockwise
from the positive x axis. Use the parallelogram law to solve this problem. (5 points)

2. Combine the two forces P and T, which act on the fixed structure at B, into a single equivalent
force R. Determine the magnitude of the resultant force and its direction. Use the parallelogram
law to solve this problem. (10 points)

3. Suppose that F1 = 770 N and F2 = 725 N. Determine the magnitude and the direction of the
resultant force, measured counterclockwise from the positive x axis. (Hint: Add all the
component forces in x and y axis and express it as ∑ Fx and ∑ Fy to get the resultant force.) (10
points)
