RADIO LOGO
• What is the purpose and use of a Radio Station Logo?

The purpose of a radio station logo is to appeal to internet users, to make people like me, more
likely to get interested enough to check out the radio station.
Since Radio’s are Audio only, these logo’s can only be seen on television Radio, or the internet.
These logos serve to represent the radio station, it’s the heart of what makes the Radio Station stand
out.

• Who is the Intended Audience of the Logo?

The modern, sleek looking design is made to attract the younger audience randomly searching
things in the internet, as the station serves to play music, it is more likely to attract young people
like me to listen to it even more.
• What assets and features can you see?
The use of a vector app can easily be recognised as vectors are about the shapes and curves which is
visible in the logo of BBC Radio 6 Music. They used the Elipse tool + Ctrl to create perfect shapes
which the editor has done to create the transparent effect around the number 6. To create the
number 6, the editor has used the Elipse tool + Ctrl to create a perfect circle, the editor then did the
same thing, except its smaller and is in a different colour, it is then moved to the larger circle and
stays there. The editor also uses the rectangle tool to create perfect squares by holding Ctrl. The
graphics designer then proceeds to copy the perfect squares (Ctrl + C) and paste it twice (Ctrl + V).
They then made a transparent effect on the letters of the Logo so that they can reuse it for a poster
for an upcoming event, although they cannot just grab a photo off the internet, they must use an
original copy of their logo as grabbing a photo and pasting it into the poster would not be too
reliable due to the difference in the quality. The graphics designer then uses the eraser tool to
remove parts of the outer circle where the word ‘music’ is placed.

What is the size of the logo?

The size of the logo is fairly large at 1200 pixels horizontally and 504 pixels
vertically. The amount of pixels also matter when it comes to resolution. It
is important that I found this logo as I needed a good resolution. The
resolution of the logo I chose is decent as it has 1200x504 pixels, it is
decent at modern terms as resolution keeps improving over time, and
lower end resolutions are seen as low quality. Anything that has a number
over 1000 is seen as either, a good photo, or a decent photo since these
numbers indicate the amount of pixels a photo has, the more the merrier
when it comes to photo resolutions.
RADIO POSTER • What is the purpose of the Poster?
The purpose of this poster is to advertise a special edition of
the programme, these posters are usually found in the
internet as radio stations don’t use cameras. These posters
are used to appeal to us younger people to tune in to the
special programme.
• Who is the intended Audience?
For the older audience, due to the fact that this radio
programme takes place during school hours and school days,
it has suggested that it isn’t made for us students, rather, our
parents. But due to the fact that the man featured in the
poster is an actor for some movies such as ‘Red Dwarf’, this
may suggest that some teenagers are also the intended
audience.
WHAT ASSETS In the background, it has a concrete texture, recoloured to a

other, and it has a combination of Raster and Vector

graphics due to the smoothness of the shapes. The shapes

the circle, yellow, then added a purple star (using a star tool)
with black outlines. For the unknown shapes, they have
been created with an elipse tool and then used a pen tool to
bend anchors into the desired shape, they then recoloured
these shapes and created rectangular shapes and bend
them with a direct-selection tool until they have created a
desired shape, when they can copy and paste the shapes
and move them then coloured them, they are bound
together using a selection tool. The now finished product is
exported to Photoshop (A Raster based editor) where the
editor proceeds to create a layer for a background, then in
the second layer, a smooth grey texture is added and
cropped to make the schedule stand out. A text has been
added and recoloured to then create the scheduling and
timing and add the name of Craig Charles. Then the BBC
Radio 6 logo is imported into another layer where the editor
makes final touches, including importing a photo of Craig
Charles. With different fonts used, the editor also used the
Rectangular tool to create squares and then the editor
created transparent text for the BBC letter effects, and then
used the elipse tool to create the 6 logo and also using the
rectangular tool (Used to create perfect squares and
rectangles) along with the elipse tool (used to create ovals
and circles) with the entire BBC logo and its effects created
using illustrator.
The poster has very good resolution at 1200x1200 its an overall good medium
ARE THE
poster.
WILL THE AUDIENCE UNDERSTAND IT?
GRAPHICS FIR Yes, the resolution is good enough for anyone to see and understand as the point
of a poster is to let people know who and what special programme or special
FOR THEIR guests would attract a larger audience, to listen to the radio station.

PURPOSE?
DOES IT STAND OUT?
Yes, the poster stands out with the yellow, blue, background gives life to the
poster, along with the shapes bent with anchors to give it a flashy look. It is also
to intrigue the audience as the grey background looks odd, yet looks great.
IS IT COLOURFUL OR HAVE GOOD CONTRAST?
The background and the Text uses a mix of bright colours, such as pink, blue,
yellow, and greyish-beige. The colour scheme along with the dark background
gives it a unique and eye-catching contrast.
CAN YOU READ THE TEXT EASILY?
Yes, with all the letters being in capitals, with alternating colour scheme, it stands
out as it also does not interfere with the main image of the poster.
HAVE THE ASSETS AND FEATURES BEEN WELL PLACED FOR MAXIMUM EFFECT?
The assets and features have been carefully placed around the main image of the
posters to avoid interference, with the BBC logo on the top right, it hardly
interferes with the main image, same with the text, it has been placed at the
bottom of the poster to make it stand out along with the contrasting colours,
everything in the poster have been well placed.
WHAT EFFECT WILL IT HAVE ON ITS INTENDED AUDIENCE?
It will make people intrigued with how unique it looks some people will have a
positive or negative view about it, but it will still attract a large audience
especially when a special guest is featured in the poster

The downside to all of this is that, it looks very

unique, which means both attractive and
unattractive, with some or a lot of internet users
reacting to it in a negative way. Looking at Craig
Charles’s history I can understand why people
would have a negative view about him coming
back to BBC Radio 6, including myself. The grey
background looks very unattractive which further
justifies the negative judgement by some internet
users. Despite this, I find the contrast very
attractive and good looking with all the colours
and illustrated shapes in behind Craig Charles.
