Benefits of CAD in Manufacturing

CAD (computer-aided design) allows designers to digitally create and modify 2D drawings and 3D models of products before manufacturing. Using CAD has several benefits for manufacturers, including increased precision of designs, faster engineering processes, and the ability to easily share and reproduce designs digitally. CAD models are more accurate than hand-drawn designs since errors can be quickly corrected digitally. Overall, integrating CAD automation speeds up processes and helps ensure flawless products before production.

Unit 13 Assignment 2

TASK 1

Introduction

Basically (CAD) Computer Aid Design is really a way to digitally make a 2D drawing and 3D examples
of any real-world product before they I have begun to be manufacture. 3D CAD has a lot of benefit
of where you can share, review, and modify any design better and more efficient, which in turn it
would decrease on time and waste.

Generic advantage of introducing CAD at a manufacturing company

The large benefit of cad adoption by manufactures is the ability to create more precise design
specification. CAD aids in replacing typical manual design drawings and enables development, with
the use of CAD engineers may produce design that are more exact and precise and use digital
techniques to facilitate greater understanding.

Saving time

Although CAD provides manufacturers better control over the quality of the product, it does speed
up the engineering process. It is easy to investigate an error, pinpoint the problem and use the tool
to remedy it all before any prototypes are made.

Standards

Is mostly based on the CAD application. We use BSI to ensure that all work and designs adhere to the
same standards and are simple for everyone to understand.

Easy to reproduce.

In the manufacture process it has developed their primary design, they can readily modify it and
produce numerous copies it without having to redraft it which means using CAD makes it incredibly
simple to replicate.

Sharing

Files that contain anything to do with CAD are easily transferable and may be distributed quickly.
The number of times a file can be shared is unlimited, however if a design was generated manually,
it can only be handed only once.

Precision

With CAD it is extremely accurate and precise the likelihood of error is very low. Even when there is
a mistake, we are informed of it and it is quite simple to edit and sort without any loss . manual
design however is less precise and has a higher likelihood of error, so might need to start over.

CAD is the something that is refed to computer aid design which is basically the process where a
device such as a computer to create, design and modify with any design activities and then on the
other hand we have CAM which refers to the computer aid manufacturing which is the process of a
computer software of some sort to take control of machine tool to take any engineering design and
use the process of CAM to transform them into an end product . With all these processes it makes
the manufacturing life much easier and efficient. Application for CAD and CAM are used to design
goods and schedule manufacturing processes particularly co-machining, which is how CAD and any
other manufacturing software relate to one another. CAM software uses CAD models and assemblies
created using programmes like fusion 360 to create toolpaths that control machines to turn designs
into physical components. Moreover, CAD can act as an electronic interface between variety of
software programmes enabling connection to components details parts and database that contain
associated data on the parts depicted on the drawing. CAD enables CAD experts to develop more
accurate design representation. By replacing manual design drafting with CAD design development,
modification and optimization were designs and alter them virtually thanks to CAD. Multiple material
relationship is computed using CAD software.

The ease of duplicating designs is another benefit of utilising CAD. This implies that prior to the
design being finalised and printed a manufacturing company can swiftly share a design or prototype
utilising online accessible CAD files. A manufacturing company will once again save time and money
by doing this. Manually drawings are difficult to distribute or copy, therefore a company must either
duplicate it’s design or email the recipient its one and only design if it wish es to demonstrate it to
staff member or even other business. We may examine what it means to give a manually made
design with those people using the manufacturing company offers as an example in this work which
has 76 employees. It needs to be completed in 76 prototypes because doing it individually would
take long for the 76 staff members. Instead, if the same organisation uses CAD the files can be
quickly download and shared between staff member or even between different businesses. Every
one of the 76 employees has access to 3D models because the file can also be produced using 3D
printed

The natural next stage in the evolution of the industrial sector is CAD integration and automation.
You may speed up your configuration process and make sure that items are flawlessly created
before going into production by automating these computer designs. In short term with CAD it help
in the manufacturing industries because it can save business a lot of time and money for example
with CAD help in the saving time department with sending other people possible design ideas to
view and give back feedback on it , with the use of wi-fi and email , instead of having paper copies
and having to travel long distance to get people opinion on something when it can be done remotely
which save time and travel expensive. With the ability to sending files that can be edited, helps in
bigger project that involved large amount of people being involved and it can help with the
development side where everyone can input their ideas, and everyone can see what been added.
It would be an understatement to claim that CAD models changed the manufacturing business
forever. Using CAD for design purpose in a manufacturing organised nowadays is practically
unthinkable. The accuracy of CAD is what makes it so helpful. Since the result will still preserve the
scaled dimensions, CAD models can be generated to scale and then increase or decrease. Also
erasing inaccuracies and design flaws from earlier hand - drawn models needed a significant amount
of work. This is about as challenging to do using CAD as pressing a button.
