Lesson Plan in Science 7 March 11, 2020 Time Allotment: 60 Minutes

The lesson plan discusses the Earth's atmosphere over 60 minutes. Students will learn about the different layers of the atmosphere, including the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere. They will discuss how energy from the Sun interacts with the atmosphere's layers. Students will identify the composition of the atmosphere, which is mostly nitrogen and oxygen, with smaller amounts of other gases. They will participate in group activities to help explore and reinforce the concepts.

the different phenomena that occur in the atmosphere.
The learners shall be able to analyze the advantage of the
Performance Standard location of the Philippines in relation to climate, weather and
seasons.
The learners shall be able to:
Learning Competency Discuss how energy from the Sun interacts with the layers of the
atmosphere (7ES-IVd-5)
The Grade 7 learners are expected to:
I. Learning Objectives ̶ identify the different layers of the earth’s atmosphere.
̶ describe the composition of the earth’s atmosphere.
II. Subject Matter Earth’s Atmosphere
Atmosphere – the envelop of gases surrounding the earth.
Troposphere – it is the layer of the atmosphere closest to the
earth’s surface where all weather phenomena take place.
Stratosphere – the layer of the earth’s atmosphere above the
troposphere where the ozone layer is found.
Mesosphere – the region of the earth above the stratosphere
and below the thermosphere. Meteors and rock fragments burn
in this layer.
Thermosphere – is between 60 kilometers to 110 kilometers
above the earth. Space shuttles fly in this area. It is also where
aurora borealis is found.
Exosphere – the outermost region of the earth’s atmosphere. It
A. Concept is where the satellites are stationed.
Ozone layer – an atmospheric shield providing the earth with
protection from ultraviolet rays.
Composition of the Atmosphere:
 Nitrogen- 78%- dilutes oxygen and prevents rapid
burning at the earth’s surface
 Oxygen- 21%- used by all living things. Essential for
respiration
 Argon- 0.9%- Used in light bulbs.
 Carbon Dioxide- 0.03%- Plants use it to make oxygen
 Trace gases- 0.27%- gases found in very small
amounts. They include neon, helium, krypton and
xenon

 GROUP 1 (MAPEH Integration)
Instruction:
Draw the layers of the Earth’s
atmosphere starting from the closest to the
surface of the earth to the farthest layer.
Guide Questions:
 How many layers does the Earth’s
atmosphere have?
 What are they?
 Cite some examples on the importance of
the Earth’s atmosphere.

 GROUP 2 (English Integration))

Instruction:
Match each layer of the atmosphere
to the picture that represents the
phenomena or objects that exist or can be
seen in each layer.
Guide Questions:
 What are the phenomena or objects that
exist in each layer of the atmosphere?
 What do you think is the importance of
each layer?
Earth’s atmosphere is so much more than the
air we breathe. A trip from the surface of Earth
to outer space would result in passing through
five different layers, each with very different
characteristics.
Troposphere is where the weather forms;
commercial airplanes also fly in this layer that
is why sometimes we experience a bumpy
ride. Stratosphere is where spy jets fly
because the air is very stable. Ozone layer is
also found in this layer.
Mesosphere is where meteors and rock
fragments burn up. Thermosphere is where
auroras are found.
Lastly, exosphere is the outermost layer and
extends through space. It is where satellites
are stationed.
 GROUP 3
(Math Integration)
Instruction:
Present the gas composition of the
Earth’s atmosphere using a pie graph/chart
based on the selection given. Perform the
task/output through NEWSCASTING.
Guide Questions:
 How much of each gas (in percent) are
present in our atmosphere?
 What are the two most abundant gases in
the atmosphere?
 Why do you think these gases are
important to us?

Gas Composition of the Atmosphere:

A. Nitrogen - 78%- Nitrogen dilutes
oxygen and prevents rapid burning at
the earth’s surface
B. Oxygen – 21% - it is used by all living
things. It is essential for respiration.
C. Argon – 0.9% - it is used in liquid bulbs.
D. CO2 – 0.03% - plants use it to make
oxygen.
E. Trace Gases – 0.27% - these are
gases found only in very small amount.
They include neon, helium, krypton and
xenon.

temperature in the mesosphere decreases as
the altitude increases.

The fourth layer in the atmosphere is the

thermosphere. The thermosphere extends
from about 100 km to about 600 km above the
surface of the Earth. Here the temperature
increases as the altitude also increases.

The last layer of the atmosphere is called the

exosphere. The satellites that orbit the Earth
are found in this layer. Here the temperature
continues to increase as the altitude
increases.
 GROUP 5 (MAPEH Integration)
Instruction: List down at least 5 human
activities that negatively affects our Earth’s
atmosphere. Present it through a JINGLE.
 Guide Questions:
Why do you think the following things
happen:

 ozone layer is being depleted?

 Earth becomes warmer?
 reduced supply of oxygen in the
atmosphere?
 increased amount of CO2 in the
atmosphere?
