CLASSIFICATION OF MOBILE APPS

Introduction: -

An app, which is short for "application," is a type of software


that can be installed and run on a computer, tablet, smartphone or
other electronic devices. It is a significant part of technology-
Driven world we live in and can enhance a person's life,
enjoyment and productivity. Apps are also regularly used by
companies both large and small to streamline production and
increase ease of work. An app most frequently refers to a mobile
application or a piece of software that is installed and used on a
computer. Most apps have a specific and narrow function. There
are currently millions of apps available in various categories like
business, productivity, shopping and scheduling.

For example, a food delivery app might only be designed for


users to get food from local restaurants delivered and can't be
used for anything else, such as grocery shopping or making
restaurant reservations.
Types of Mobile Apps: -

There are mainly seven types of mobile app. They are: -

1) Native Apps: -
Mobile apps are usually developed for a specific Operating
System and devices. These types of apps are primarily used
to provide the highest performance on a particular mobile
operating system. Apps that are developed for keeping the
device specification in mind are known as Native Apps.
Some of these apps are pre-installed in the new phone or
can be downloaded. These apps have some limitations and
are expensive to develop and maintain.
Examples of native apps: -
a) LADIDA: -
It has been designed to enable people of all shapes and
sizes and all ages to catch a taste of what it feels like to sing with
a full band while also having their voice artificially enhanced to
sound professional.

b) Waze: -

Waze is a community – driven navigation app created by an


Israel company. It uses real time data from the app’s users to
provide the best route.

2) Hybrid Apps: -
Hybrid apps are those apps that have features of both native
as well as web apps. These can be installed by downloading
them using Internet. These apps are easier to create and
quicker.
Examples of Hybrid apps: -
a) Candy Crush: -
Candy Crush is a free to play tile-matching video game
released by king on April 2012. In this game, the players complete
levels by swapping colored pieces of candy on the game board.

b) Amazon App Store: -

This app was launched on March 22 2011and was made


available for nearly 200 countries. It was adopted by several
Operating Systems as a source of Android compatible app.

3) Social Networking App: -


Social Networking plays an important role in communication.
We can connect with anyone across the globe easily. It is a
combination of both real as well as digital world. Users can
access this application both on PC’s and on mobile phones.
Examples of Social networking App: -
a) WhatsApp: -
With over 2 billion active users, WhatsApp is the most
popular instant messaging app worldwide. Now WhatsApp has
rapidly grown and offers users with high quality voice and video
calls.

b) Facebook: -

Facebook with over 2.7 billion active users, it allows all the
registered users to create their profile, post comment, exchange
information, share links, etc.

4) Entertainment Apps: -
Entertainment apps cover a variety of applications available
for mobile devices that deal with interactive activities related to
leisure and having fun. The entertainment apps could be of 3
main types media, music and gaming apps.
Examples of Entertainment apps are: -
a) Disney plus Hotstar: -

It is an online streaming app owned by Novi Digital


Entertainment Private Limited. In it a user could see movie, TV
serials, sports, cinema etc. It took Fifteen months for the
development of this app. It spread like a wildfire in the whole India
as it provided with seven regional languages.

b) Netflix: -

It is an American media company founded on 1997, it


operates the over the top subscription video. It was the second
largest entertainment and Media Company by market
capitalization as of February 2022. It was marked as the eight
globally trusted brand.

5) Banking and Finance App: -


Almost all banks have their own apps today. These apps
allow quick and easy access to most of their services and
products. One can check the balance in his account; order a
chequebook, and transfer money and many other activities.
Examples of Banking and Finance App are: -
a) Paytm: -

A multinational financial technology company specializes in


digital payments and financial services. The company offers
mobile payment services to consumers and enable merchants to
receive payment immediately.

b) PhonePe: -

It is an Indian Digital payment and financial service company


headquarter in Bengaluru. Founded on December 2015. This
app is based on Unified Payment Interface.

6) E-commerce: -
Buying and selling good using electronic means is known
as E-commerce. This rapid increase in mobile technology and
desire of people to get things quickly e-commerce come in force.
Examples of E-commerce are: -
a) Flipkart: -

It is a private limited e-commerce company in cooperated in


Singapore as a private limited e-commerce company. It initially
focused on online booking sales before expanding into other
products.

b) Snapdeal: -

It is an Indian e-commerce company based in Delhi. Founded


in February 2010. It targets the value e-commerce segments,
which is estimated three times than branded products.
