1.What are the learner’s problems observed by the teachers as guidance counselors
during pandemic?
1.1. As a class adviser, what is the crucial case that you handle in class during
pandemic?
IDI 1
- During Pandemic, there are a lot of problems regarding the pupils. The first case kanang
grado.
- During Pandemic, there are a lot of problems regarding the pupils. The first case is that
we don’t know the real abilities because we’re not able to see and handle them personally.
The grades that we give to them might not suit their real abilities because we’re not able to
see them personally or handle personally. That is one of the most crucial problems, we give
lower average, it’s not just possible but it really happened with one of my pupils in grade 1.
That kid is really a performer but I wonder when I scanned the learner’s record and way
back in grade 1, he/she was not able to be recognized by the teacher. So, the possible
thing that happened during pandemic time is that the learner with better learning was given
lower grades while the learners with weaker learning was given higher grades because
their parents were active at school.
IDI 2
- Since pandemic, face to face classes were prohibited but modular learning took over as
learning modality. For some cases, there were pupils failed to claim and return their
modules on time. There were modules left unanswered because they do not know the
answer and nobody in the family has the ability to answer. Since pandemic, absence of
teachers had a great effect to the pupils as to how the topic of each lesson be treated and
understood. Some were not able to access on the internet due to poor internet connection,
no cellphone for the research and lack of signal.
IDI 3
- The crucial cases I handled are the certainty of the learners’ answers. Iba talaga yung
niya. Second, the pandemic has change how teachers divide their time between teaching,
engaging with students, and administrative task.
- The crucial cases I handled are the certainty of the learners’ answers. There is a
difference of learning during the face to face than in lock down, because we really don’t if
their modules were answered by the students of is it one of the family members. Second,
the pandemic has change how teachers divide their time between teaching, engaging with
students, and administrative task.
IDI 4
- During modular I already expected the students are not the one who answered it, it’s the
parents doing and that is what really happened, I have experienced that they have high
grades but when it comes to face to face classes the student did not know how to read and
write. In my part, I have difficulties in adjusting because during pandemic they have high
grades. That is really the crucial case that I have encounter during pandemic is that the
parent’s is the one who answered their modules.
IDI 5
- During pandemic most parents are talking about their difficulties on guiding their child’s
modules and behaviors’.
IDI-6
- During the pandemic times, teachers are being bombarded with increased workloads,
juggling multiple roles and responsibilities in dealing with modular paperwork. It was very
hard to address the specific needs of students and how to connect with them.
IDI-7
- Making it sure that every student should always be in good condition.
1.2. What qualities do you believe a class adviser must have in dealing pupils’
problem during pandemic?
IDI-1
- During pandemic pag maghandle ug problem sa bata, wala man jud ta naka face to face
ato sa mga bata parent rajud kanunay ang maatubang so as a techer kinahanglan
magmabinantayon ta. Be vegilant tapos kailangan na iyang ilhon jud iyang estudyante
bawal man. Mao nay gibuhat nako sa una atong panahon sa pandemic.
-During pandemic, when handling pupil’s problem during pandemic we’re not able to face to
face contact with the learners. Only Parents were able to face us so as a teacher we need
to be attentive, be vigilant. We also need to know our pupil’s and make the outputs and
records reliable. I visited the pupils at their houses but not too close because of social
distancing. So that’s what I’ve done during pandemic.
IDI-2
- For me, a class adviser must be a well-rounded personality, sensitive to the needs of
his/her pupils a friend and trustworthy. An adviser must first establish relationship among
his/her pupils to gain trust and respect, for you to be able to deal pupils’ problem especially
that pandemic year brought devastation to their hopes to go to school and meet their
teachers, friends and classmates.
IDI-3
- I believe that the quality that a teacher must inspired and be coordinative with the people
involved in the learners learning and improvement and knows how to adapt the current
situation of learning.
IDI-4
mamagsak ug bata ato nga time.
- As a class adviser you must give everything you can, you need to understand your
students, patience that you almost consider them all, not only the students but also to the
parents. It’s you who need to understand that instead of weekly releasing of modules, they
just get the whole month topic of modules because it’s a hassle for them that they need to
be back again for a week because they still have other things to think about in their home,
looking for food to feed their children. That’s why I understand them because you can’t give
failed grades on your students that time.
IDI-5
- Long patience and understanding, and caring for the well-being of the students.
IDI-6
- Having an empathy and compassion, active listening skills, good communication skills,
ethics and confidentiality should a guidance counselor possess.
IDI-7
- Good in solving problems, leadership, communication and self-awareness.
1.3. What are the benefits of working as a teacher-counselor?
IDI-1
problema sa us aka bata. Bisan pa sa ilahang family kay mai open up man na nila sa imuha
as a teacher counselor.
- As a teacher counselor I can develop and apply the experiences to myself and I can also
share my experiences to my clients enable to help them. then another thing is that you can
learn something from them and be aware of the problems around you and know the
reasons behind the existing problems of a learner, even the problems of the learner’s family
will be shared to you because they will open it up to you as a teacher counselor.
IDI-2
- Being teacher counselor is beneficial because you get into the world where your pupils
belong, you have the chance to get along with them and have an idea on how to deal with
them. Being a teacher is not merely to teach your pupils how to read and write, it is a
relationship you build among them so that you can easily assess their personality,
differences, needs and to win their trust and confidence.
IDI-3
- The benefit for me is the satisfaction that I felt whenever I effectively address the
educational goals and needs of my students that leads to an increase of their
achievements. They can also help me to plan appropriate activities that that suits their
current needs.
IDI-4
Ma reflect man pud gud nako sa akoang life no if ever maka encounter ko
og mga difficulties, naa nakoy baon-baon na kaalaman about how to solve my problem kay
- The benefits for me, is that I will be happy that I can help the children, gave a hug their
parents, I not only teach but I also counsel when problems arise. I can reflect it on my life if
ever I encounter difficulties, I have deep knowledge about solving problems because I
already encountered that problem to the other person. Even though it gets me headache to
the problems that is not mine, somehow it has an advantage on me.
IDI-5
- Benefits of working as a teacher-counselor is that the pupil’s believe and will follow what
you are saying.
IDI-6
- The challenge is addressing the increased mental health needs and emotional well-being
concerns resulting from pandemic’s impact on student lives.
IDI-7
- It can improve your communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.
1.4. What has been the biggest challenge in counseling learners and why?
IDI-1
Lisod kaayo
vhallenging kaayo pag counsel nimo ana I dig pajud nimo ang ilahang life unya kinahanglan
Based on my experience it is very challenging to encounter a problematic child, the learner
doesn’t only have behavioral problems I manifested it as an exceptional learner because
the learner wasn’t diagnosed by a professional psychiatrist because of the parent’s financial
deficiency. It is very hard and challenging to counsel because you need to dig in their lives
and you need to have a lot of patience to gather the factors of a learner’s problem.
IDI-2
- The biggest challenge in counseling learners is when parents deny the circumstances and
tolerate them.
IDI-3
- In school bullying is the most common cases, but in pandemic suicidal threats are the
scariest. It is very hard to deal with pupils’ problem lalo na katong naay mga suicidal
thoughts. Because of the distance, how can I hug them when they need it? How can I have
a heart-to-heart talk with the learners with problems? Have you ever heard atong 11 years
afraid that would happen to one of my pupils it would be a nightmare for me as a teacher.
- In school bullying is the most common cases, but in pandemic suicidal threats are the
scariest. It is very hard to deal with pupils’ problem especially those students having suicidal
thoughts. Because of the distance, how can I hug them when they need it? How can I have
a heart-to-heart talk with the learners with problems? Have you ever heard on the 11 years
old student committed suicide due to depression on answering the modules? I’m afraid that
would happen to one of my pupils it would be a nightmare for me as a teacher.
IDI-4
perpekto mahutdan pud tag pasensya.
- The biggest challenge is the distance, it used to be difficult to solve problems that were
close to you, especially today we are in modular learning because many children now
engaging on social media, they are prone on cyber bullying and there are parents that they
just letting their child using cellphones because they are busy on other things and whatever
the child sees, whatever their posting on social media do the trend that is not compatible
with their age. That’s why sometimes I get irritated too, okay, we are not perfect our
patience will run out too.
IDI-5
- In the place I am teaching, I was not able to feel of being a teacher counselor, in the sense
that only their parents I often meet and sometimes talk to our Group Chat and even if we
have GC, only those parents who have signals in their place and cellphones can
communicate to me. That’s my biggest challenge, I was not able to get acquainted on my
pupils’ and able to support them all through-out.
IDI-6
- The benefits include enhanced student support and rapport, while the drawbacks involve
increased workload and potential limitations in training and expertise.
IDI-7
- You have to set your relationship limits not to be biased and putting personal judgements
aside.
2. What are the strategies of the teachers as guidance counselor to mitigate the
learner’s problems?
2.1. How did you handle the difficulties that you faced as a class adviser during the
pandemic?
IDI 1
So tungod ato ang gibuhat
namong mga teachers during the enrolment nangayo jud mi sa ilahag phone number any
Isyoryahan namo sila tawagan
or padal ag sulat para lang jud mahibalo sila.
-It's very difficult because there are so many students as class advisers, but there are so
many parents who don't take the modules. Even if they take, they won’t returned
immediately. When you look at the module, you’ll wonder why the hand written was so good
because the parents were the one who answered the modules. Then you’ll hurry to print the
modules for when the parents came, they can bring home the printed materials. You’ll
expect a 100%, you even overtime just for that but when time comes the parents didn’t take
it and if was taken it will not also return. So, because of that since enrolment we gather their
phone numbers and any available medium of communication that we can get just to
communicate with them. That’s what happened, we call them so they can give attention to
and informed them.
IDI 2
- During pandemic fears it is undeniable that most of our pupils are facing difficulties and
challenges in learning at home, as well as the teachers. But pandemic can’t stop me from
delivering assistance, remediation and counselling right at their doorstep. For some who
has internet connection, we can greet and update through our group chat. I send them
educational/lesson videos to reinforce learning at home.
IDI 3
- During pandemic there are so many problems that I have encountered I handled it by
grabbing the opportunities na maka learn pa through online seminars, I also find a way to
boost my internet connection para ma contact gihapon nko sila bisan pag di mi mag face to
face then I planned how to implement and evaluate the learners’ performances.
-During pandemic there are so many problems that I have encountered, I handled it by
grabbing the opportunities that they learn through online seminars, I also find way to boost
my internet connection so I can still contact them even if we don’t have a face-to-face
interaction, and then I planned how to implement and evaluate the learners’ performances.
IDI 4
hahaha.
knowledgeable aning bahina.
-I was unaccustomed during pandemic, because I don’t know much about on using social
media applications, messenger, Facebook and whatever it is, thankfully my children taught
me and I always asked them; Langga how to do this, why like this and sometimes they get
annoyed on me because it took a long time for me to get it hahaha. Of course, it didn’t exist
this in our time, and there was no pandemic, I don’t know these things either. At first it was
hard for me but eventually I already get it because my children that knows about these
things guided me.
IDI 5
- I experience worriedness on the pupils’ learning. I have found out every time I checked on
their modules all the questions are correct and I have noticed their penmanship it’s not
theirs.
IDI-6
- Adapting the challenges like embracing the virtual platforms for counseling sessions,
utilizing online resources and tools and staying updated on the evolving needs of students.
IDI-7
- You must normalize and validate client’s fear through rigid analyzation factors that
students can and cannot control.
2.2 How did you allocate your time between seeing the learner’s immediate needs
and maintaining the paperwork?
IDI-1
- Naa mi schedule although pandemic naa mi class schedule. Naa mi time to duplicate the
modules and naa mi time sa home visitation ug naa pud mi time mag meet up sa mga
parents or through messenger naka schedule nana daan among oras naa name daan oras
na nakalaan para ana.
- We have a class schedule even during a pandemic. We have time to duplicate the
modules and we also have time for home visitation, meet up with parent’s face to face or
through messenger, our time is already scheduled. We have time allotted to different things
that we need to spend time on.
IDI-2
- We set schedules for the release and retrieval of modules. We posted updates on our
social media accounts and on Messenger. When time that AITF allowed us to have a limited
face to face with our pupils, we conducted remedial classes twice a week for limited pupils
that needs our assistance. Once a week the rest of my days in school is checking and
printing of modules.
IDI-3
- I used to manage my time in classroom, the immediate educational needs of the students
and the large volume of paperwork that comes with every assignment. Between writing
lesson plans, grading exams and but sometimes I felt that it is impossible to fit everything
into the allotted time frame pero makaya raman pud.
- I used to manage my time in classroom, the immediate educational needs of the students
and the large volume of paperwork that comes with every assignment. Between writing
lesson plans, grading exams and but sometimes I felt that it is impossible to fit everything
into the allotted time frame but it can be done.
IDI-4
- It is not easy to decide where to start first, I have to print modules and then do some
reports even though the students where far away from us we need to give reports of them.
There are extra job and so far, no matter how difficult it is, I can still handle it. I have a lot of
things to do at home, that’s why I don’t bring school works at home because when I’m at
home, everything should be at home. Sometimes I would say I’m tired but thankfully I did
make it to manage my time but if I have extra time, I still use it to do some heavy works just
in case if there is another thing to do, I have more time to it that I don’t need to rush things
to make it up to deadline.
IDI-5
- I communicate with some of my parents and be able to give and send them a time
schedule on when they will return the modules.
IDI-6
- By establishing clear boundaries, prioritize student needs, streamline paperwork and
seeking support from colleagues.
IDI-7
- Strike a balance between attending to student’s immediate needs and keeping up with
administrating tasks such as, paper works. But for me I would prioritize student’s needs
above paper works that’s crucial.
2.3. What modifications do you think your learners have made to the situation?
IDI-1
- Ang nahimong kausaban naa man guy mga bata na dili ganahan ug face to face naa puy
bata na mas ganahan ug face to face.
ganahan.
- What the modifications I have observed are: there are learners who do not want face to
face and there are also children who prefer face to face. The quiet children prefer the
modular, they always want to answer the module, but the children who are very active
became weak during the pandemic because they don't like to face all day long with their
modules, they prefer to have someone to talk to and mingle with. They neglect their module
works, they don't like it, especially when their parents are not by their side, there is no one
to take care of them because their parents are busy, so the child whose performance was
good when there was no pandemic, during the pandemic, their performance dropped. But
the learners who are quiet during the face to face are the ones who excel during the
pandemic because that is also their preferences.
IDI-2
- Learners were able to manage their time on when to answer the modules and when is the
time to play and watch TV (recreation).
IDI-3
- At that time no I observed that the pupil’s modification was very negative kay makabalita
mubalik nalang ug face to face pero di man jud pede maong ako nalang gina tambagan ang
parents na pasabton ang bata.
- At that time, I observed that the pupils’ modification was very negative because all of a
sudden, we heard news from the parents that his child seems to be very depressed
because he wanted to go back to face-to-face but it can’t be done that’s why I’m just
advising the parents to explain it to the child.
IDI-4
gud jud namo sila karon nag expect mi nga di najud sila pareha sauna just like makita man
- The changes compared to before the pandemic was, we were able to track them and now
we expected that they were not the same before. You will see the difference now that we
already had face-to-face that the pupils’ learning capacity is not fit to his/her grade level. In
my Grade 4 class there are still students who doesn’t know how to read, some still don’t
know how to write and worst of all, they still don’t know how to write their names correctly.
My problem was serious and it’s not only me but all of my co-teachers, that is also their
problem we were back at teaching basic learnings like we are teaching Grade 1 students,
they were misguided in their behaviors they seem to have come out from the cave they
don’t sit still and just want to fly.
IDI-5
- To those parents who came to school to return the modules I gave them some activity and
materials to help their child participate even if they are at home.
IDI-6
- Implementing flexible learning models and integrating technology for remote and hybrid
learning.
IDI-7
- Making themselves feel safe is my top priority over any other tasks.
2.4. What platform did you mostly use for counseling your students?
IDI-1
- Messenger only because you can use free data nothing else, if we need to inform the we
post it on Facebook or Facebook story that’s all.
IDI-2
- We used “Messenger” for updates and when there is a need for counseling.
IDI-3
- Messenger sa mga naay internet connection sa mga wala namay connection is through
letters.
- To those who has internet connection I used Messenger and to those who doesn’t have
internet I send them through letters.
IDI-4
- We call their parent’s attention through Messenger and if they don’t have social media
account, we’ll back to basic communication through writing a letter to communicate with
them.
IDI-5
- I use social media platforms like Messenger to those who have internet connection and
cellphones, but to those who have not, I gave them activities and bring it on their home.
IDI-6
- Using video conferencing like zoom and messenger, messaging apps like Facebook
messenger.
IDI-7
- One on one talk, for me to know them better and how I will able to manage them correctly.
2.5. There are some students from rural areas that need guidance during a pandemic.
What strategy did you use?
IDI-1
- With home visitations, let's bring learning materials for the parent and learners. We will
teach the parents first for them to teach their children how to read.
IDI-2
- For those learners situated in rural areas can still access our guidance services even
during pandemic through home visitations.
IDI-3
- We can also use the chalk, blackboard and textbook. Also, even though the newspaper,
magazines and books need electricity to produce but still, we can use this as one of the
resources that can help the learners to understand.
IDI-4
pangutan an mig unsay gbuhat namong aksiyon maong mag home visitation jud ka mag
- We really don’t have students in rural areas here in Tagum because it is already a city but
there is a bit far away that needs their parent’s attention because they don’t even care
about their children’s schooling and if their child got failed, they will blame us and they will
ask on us on what action did we made that is why we did a home visitation, we did survey if
where did this student live, you have to track down your pupils, our job get doubled
because instead of calling their number that was given can’t be called either.
IDI-5
- In our school, we notice that there is really a need to outreach our pupils especially those
who have difficulty in reading and in arithmetic. Our school organized a program called
SALBABIDA, the teachers will be assigned to go to different puroks to help students who
don’t know how to read.
IDI-6
- Disturbing learning materials like the homeroom guidance module to reach students in
remote areas with limited internet connectivity.
IDI-7
- Connect to the barangay officials to talk for the betterment of the whole community
including the school, to easily address the needs of students.
3. What are the insights of teachers as guidance counselors in dealing with pupils’
problem during pandemic?
3.1. What innovative and new ideas would you like to employ in helping/ guiding your
learners?
IDI-1
- Nag download ug mga videos amoang gibutang sa flashdrive nag provide mig flash drive
ug among gihatag sa mga ginikanan. Nagbuhat pud mi ug own videos sa amoang
kaugalingon nag video mi among gisend sa mga estudyante through messenger. Naga call
pandemic.
- We’ve downloaded videos in flash drive; we provide flash drive and give it to the parents.
We also videotaped ourselves and send it to our students through messenger. We call
through messenger and talk to the learners. We just give simple knowledge to them at least
they can see us virtually during pandemic.
IDI-2
- We launched project SALBABIDA in our school as our reading intervention to pupils who
are at risk of dropping out. Under Project SALBABIDA is our Purok Pabasa, Purok Pag-asa
and Pakighima-Math.
IDI-3
- Innovation in education can be, recognizing that students are better by a flipped
classroom where they watch lecturer at home and complete the assignments in classroom.
Introducing more technology in the classroom to create a blended classroom where
students experienced technology as they would in the real world.
IDI-4
- Social media can also help because you can also remind them on Messenger through
group chat, you can have video calls regarding to your students.
IDI-5
- By introducing technology in the classroom to create a blended learning where students
experience and explore things using new technology as they will be able to learn and have
fun at the same time.
IDI-6
- I think implementing a virtual career fair, bringing together professionals from various
industries to provide online career exploration opportunities for students.
IDI-7
- Practice on how to manage expectations, focus on opportunities and develop realistic
goals.
3.2. How would you motivate your learners to continue studying in the midst of pandemic?
IDI-1
ang magtinabangay during pandemic.
- During pandemic we talk to the learners with their parents, whenever we call them, we
always told them that no matter the current situation affects us. Though it’s very hard for the
parents we will still continue to pursue learning because the important thing for the learners
at that time is they learn at the same time with their parents. They’ll have family bonding
because they are the only ones who work during pandemic.
IDI-2
- I motivate and encourage my pupils to go through their studies at home by sending them
activity sheets and art projects to keep them busy. I always encourage them to pray and be
patient because pandemic will have its end face to face classes will be back soon.
IDI-3
- The fact is, it is very difficult to find the motivation to concentrate as an online learner in
the middle of a pandemic. As a tutor, one of the responsibilities, is to make it easier for
learners to enjoy and find the motivation need to learn in class.
IDI-4
gihapon sila ing ana among mga pamaagi para mupadayon gihapon sila amoa silang I
- We did all our best, actually DepEd has done many programs for the students, so we
always present it to them so the students would always like to go to school like giving
school supplies, they would like that and then tell them that just keep continue their studies
because they were so lucky to go to school. That’s our way to get them motivated to go to
school, we also considerate to their request to be late on passing their modules, because
we don’t know what is going on in their home because we are not there that’s why I will
understand them.
IDI-5
- I was able to motivate my students by rewarding their success and achievements like
recognizing those early and updated in returning their modules.
IDI- 6
- Just simply highlighting the long-term benefits of education, fostering a supportive and
engaging virtual learning environment and recognizing and celebrating their achievements
and efforts along the way.
IDI-7
- We don’t know what the future holds, but we can try to share each day to be positive,
creative, exciting and rewarding. Just keep moving forward, because education is the most
powerful weapon you can use to change the world.
3.3. How would you adjust your work being a teacher as a guidance counselor given
the obstacle brought on by the pandemic?
IDI-1
- Although nagahatag ang DepEd ug most essential learning competency pero nakita nako
nga ang ilahang gi provide na most essential competency is dili pajud siya most essential,
broad pa gihapon para sa akoa. As a grade 1 teacher, ako mismo nag modify ko ug lesson
- Although the DepEd provides most essential learning competency materials, I have seen
that it’s still not the most essential. For me the topics are still broad, so as a grade 1 teacher
I modified lessons since most importantly in grade 1 they must know how to read and write
so I modified activities and give it to my pupils that for me it’s the most essential.
IDI-2
- My work as a teacher and a guidance counselor is always at the top of public service. As a
need arises, I and my co-teachers together with our principal will set a schedule and
immediately responds to the call. It is a matter of prioritizing the welfare of our
schoolchildren.
IDI-3
- Always have a plan, clearly define what is bothering you, take a gratitude approach,
seek/accept support, and adopt a growth mindset.
IDI-4
- Kay wala man mi kabalo na mahitabo jud ning pandemic nadugangan jud intawon among
necessary things and managae my time then staypositive lang dili ka magpadala sa mga
negative things na nahitabo sa imuhang palibot the I monitor nako akong time sa pagbuhat
- Because we don’t know that this pandemic would happen, our work has increased even
though we don’t have students, so what I did to adjust to the situation is I did the necessary
things first and manage my time then stay positive and don’t be affected to the negative
things that happened to your surroundings I monitor my time to the things I need to do, like
it seems to have been doing these things for a long time, I move to the other things
because if you also neglect other things, you can’t even finish things because you still have
many obligations.
IDI-5
- By providing intervention for my students at risk of dropping out like giving them activity
sheets in reading and arithmetic.
IDI-6
- We can utilize virtual platforms for counseling sessions, provide self-help materials, offer
remote social emotional support and collaboration with colleagues.
IDI-7
- Focus on the goal and avoid distractions and look straight on the needs of your students
that’s the top priority of work.
3.4. How did school and district administrators support the activities of the guidance
counselors during COVID-19 crisis?
IDI-1
- Time to time naga hatag sila ug update naga hatag pud silag materials na gamiton namo
More on prevention ang
gibuhat sa school ug gina provide na sa amoa sa school using the MOOE funds.
- They update us from time to and gives us materials that we can use in photocopying the
modules, then we are also provided with health and safety kits, paraphernalia, forms. They
provide us the information we need to be aware of the good and bad things at that time.
The school administration is more on providing prevention by using the school’s using the
MOOE funds.
IDI-2
- As mandated in the DepEd memo, the school counselors will continue to render services
for the welfare of our school children. In line with this order is the support our school and
district administrators to provide the services and needs of our schoolchildren and to
maintain harmonious and healthy relationship.
IDI-3
- In reality as school counselor play many roles, including social and emotional educator,
academic adviser, conflict mediator, wellness coach, mental health therapist. Now we
advent with the pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus, many school counselors have
become connectors and comfort–in-chiefs not just to students but to parents and school
staffs.
IDI-4
noh, mag advice sila magpahinumdom.
- The administrators were just implementing on the things that needs to implement, they
give advice and reminders to us. The principal will get involved in student’s problem
especially if the problem was serious and there are annual activities like career guidance,
they support that kind of activities.
IDI-5
- We were able to provide instruction on psychological and social issues, like providing
information to the parents and pupils about bullying.
IDI-6
- By initiating virtual seminars and providing access to virtual counseling platforms and
resources.
IDI-7
- By providing support in order to ensure that student’s mental health and academic needs
were being met such as providing professional development to learn new skills and
strategies in counseling. Maintain regular communication to ensure awareness in any
changes of school’s policy and procedures and lastly collaborative planning to implement
plans.
3.5. What will you recommend to new teachers in terms of student counseling?
IDI-1
So isip usa ka teacher counselor dapat
taas imong pasenysa then before ka mu counselling imuha sang I dig up unsay problema
- If you’re going to be a teacher counsellor you need to have a lot of patience because you
are not going just going to deal with the children but also, you’ll need to deal with parents.
Nowadays parents are the most disobedient, the children will just follow, they are easy to
accommodate unlike parents they can opposed you. So as a teacher counsellor you need
to have a lot of patience then before counselling you need to dig up what really are the
problem and the family background of the learner. You might misinterpret them especially
when the learner’s family might have history of exceptional person. Genetically, you must
know and discover them before giving advice; your advice might not fit or even hurt them.
You must base your advice to the problems they are facing. If you can help them financially
because most family problems root on money so help them. But if you can’t help financially
don’t give them advice that is impossible for them.
IDI-2
- Teach with a heart, build relationship and gain trust. Create a conducive and friendly
environment, know your pupils, understand their lives, like family and community they
belong, help them.
IDI-3
- Teachers should understand the importance of students counselling and help them see
their full potential, creative side and strengths.
IDI-4
- We have responsibility to our students even though we don’t study about guidance
counselor but we can apply it in being observant to our students because they are not easy
to handle like these children nowadays, you need to have self-control and don’t hurt your
students.
IDI-5
- My recommendation to new teachers in terms of student counseling is to attend seminars
and trainings on guidance and counseling, be updated in the internet and social media
regarding counseling.
IDI-6
- Prioritize building relationships with students, actively listen to their needs and seek
guidance from experienced counselors to enhance your counseling skills and provide
effective support.
IDI-7
- As a guidance counselor, I certainly offer some recommendations to new teachers in
terms of student counseling; 1. Establish strong rapport with your students, building a
positive relationship with your student is the foundation for effective counseling trust and
respect. 2. Listen actively and attentively and show that you understand that perspective. 3.
Offer support and guidance which involve helping the student develop a plan action in order
to resolve problems. 4. Maintain confidentiality to aware students to be feel safe and
comfortable sharing that concerns with you.
