Ask yourself: Can you as a potential event manager meet the requirements and
investigation and provide a convincing ground for make a management decision to go
ahead with this special event in the future?
Investigate a special event, convention or festival using online resources. Summarise the role of the
event, the venue, structure, target market and (if possible) the success or legacy of the event.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this assessment is to require student(s) to demonstrate competence in course


learning objectives CLO1, CLO4, CLO5, and CLO6, by completing a report into an event or a
professional conference planner. The report is due for submission no later than the end of week 5 of
the course and contributes 20% of the total marks available for the course.

TASK/ASSIGNMENT

You are to apply the principles of event management learned in class (during first 5 weeks):

1. Introduction to events management and MICE; Events destination management; History and
evolution; Types of events
2. Events production, design and lighting; event proposals; project management
3. Legal, security, safety and risk management; crisis management plan
4. Events logistics and event documentation; developing a management plan for an event
5. Marketing process, communications and public relations; promotion and sales; social media

Your submission should be in Harvard style citing, and referencing must be utilized throughout, and
your response should be prepared according to the guidelines presented below.

GUIDELINES

• This assignment is to be prepared by student(s), you need approval by the course instructor
prior to commencing work on the project. The assignment is due for submission no later
than the date and time shown on this briefing sheet.
• Comments made in the assignment should be supported by appropriate and relevant
literature references. Although students are encouraged to use the RMIT library services to
make their own choice of articles in support of their project, the following sources may
represent a useful start point for that process:

• The assignment should be electronically submitted to the Canvas site, and to the relevant
Turnitin location, by the agreed date and time. Late assignments will be grade penalised
according to the conditions stated in the course outline.
• The assignment will be graded by allocation of a percentage mark, and contributes 20% of
the final course grade. It will be graded, and results made available through the Canvas site,
within two weeks of it having been submitted.
• The assignment will be graded as if it were a document to be presented in the context of a
legitimate business relationship, so its presentation needs to be succinct, well argued, and
supported by appropriate evidence. It must be typed and accurately referenced, with
supporting evidence drawn from textbooks, journal articles, and supplementary readings.
• Grades will be adversely affected by poor formatting, layout, grammar, spelling and any
perceived lack of professional impact.

ASSIGNMENT STRUCTURE REPORT


Introduction: (approx 500 words as a starting point)
This section should “set the scene” for the discussion to follow, and briefly overview the key tourism and
hospitality MICE events around the globe / Asia, and Vietnam from the past, present, and future years
(history and evolution) – name of events, purpose of events, main origin countries, number of visitors,
estimated contribution to the economy in host country. The section should conclude by describing how
the rest of the report is structured.

Secondary Research – articles profile on the topics of event management


This section should use the historical data cited in journals or books related to event management.
Specific data should cover materials and key terms learned in class (for 5 weeks). You must cover a
minimum of 8 articles and a maximum of 20 articles.
Event Management Proposal(s) – At least one sample shared
Based on an Event Management proposal of your interest (e.g., Conferences, Seminars, Meetings, Team
Building events, Trade Shows, Business Dinners, Golf Events, Press Conferences, Networking Events,
Incentive Travel, Opening Ceremonies, Product Launches, Theme Parties, VIP Events, Trade Fairs,
Shareholder Meetings, Award Ceremonies, Incentive Events, Board Meetings, Executive Retreats,
Fashion, Charities, Academic, Sporting, Weddings, Birthdays, Wedding Anniversaries, Family Events, Food
and Wine Festivals, Concerts, and much more), comment on the specific discoveries / analysis in the
existing proposal that will need to be introduced, improved, upgraded and/or further developed in order
to meet the anticipated levels of supply and demand.

Future Demand – implications for the hospitality event sector


Based on the predicted patterns of tourism demand ten years from now, comment on the specific
elements of hospitality events provision that will need to be introduced, improved, upgraded and/or
further developed in order to meet the anticipated levels of demand in Vietnam.
Conclusions and Recommendations:
This section provides a brief review of the major conclusions that have resulted from this analysis, and
highlights the primary implications of those conclusions for the Vietnamese tourism industry.

This section should contain any appendices that you feel would be useful for the reader to consider, and
a list of bibliographic references for any sources cited in your report. This part of the report is not
formally assessed, and is disregarded for the purposes of calculating overall word count.
