PNVSCA continues reaching out to youth
Posted on October 2, 2018
With its mandate to promote volunteerism in various sectors, the Philippine National
Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency continues its participation in different activities.
On 22 September 2018, the AFS Intercultural Program Philippines (AFS-IPP) Laguna
Chapter conducted the Volunteers’ Advocacy Summit with the theme, “Fuelled: Passing
It on the Ablaze Passion.” Ms. Vlaire Formento served as one of the speakers for the
first plenary session on the topic “Volunteers as Catalyst for Change: Movers and
Shakers of the Nation. #AkoYON!”
Rooted in the culture, Filipinos are known for being matulungin (helpful) because of the
bayanihan spirit where volunteerism stems from. The talk centered on the idea that
community service in the form of volunteerism promotes development that would
eventually help improve the quality of life especially of the marginalized sectors in the
society. Starting young, the youth can nurture this value and pass it on to the next
generations. This way, the value of helping others will never be forgotten.
The Summit was attended by more than a hundred youth from different colleges and
universities in the CALABARZON Region. It was held at the San Pablo Colleges in San
Pablo City, Laguna. Participation in this event is part of the Agency’s efforts to
disseminate information on volunteerism and share the potential of the youth sector as
movers and shakers of the nation through volunteerism.
AFS-IPP is an international, non-profit, and volunteer-based organization that
implements exchange and scholarship program for students, educators, and community
service volunteers

PNVSCA, NYC promote volunteerism in youth
Posted on April 30, 2018
The National Youth Commission (NYC) held its first Youth Volunteers’ Camp last 25
May 2018 at Batangas Country Club, Batangas City. Gathering active youth volunteer
partners, NYC took advantage of this opportunity for the participants to meet, build
networks, share their volunteer stories, serve as an inspiration to fellow youth, and most
importantly, fan the flickering passion of patriotism to give service to Filipino people.
The Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) shared with
youth volunteers in attendance their role in helping build a nation of volunteers and
contributing to national development through their volunteer service. NYC invited
PNVSCA to this event to provide an overview of volunteerism in the Philippines. With its
continuous advocacy to engage multisector in volunteerism, PNVSCA encouraged the
participants to promote volunteerism in the youth sector and be active partners of the
government by making the spirit of bayanihan, the Filipino expression of volunteerism, a
way of life.
Search for Outstanding Volunteers (SOV) awardees Dr. Gerry Duwin Dela Zerna and
Mr. Marc Paolo Calalang also participated in the activity as resource persons. Mr.
Calalang delivered an inspiring message to the participants on his journey toward
organizing the Muntinlupa Junior Rescue Team, an organization working on the sector
of disaster risk reduction and management. He said that it was not easy at first and
there were people who doubted their intention as volunteers but through hard work and
dedication, they made their mark in their community and established their integrity as a
volunteer organization.
Dr. Dela Zerna shared his extensive experience in volunteerism and created new model
and ideas that the youth may follow in organizing volunteer organization and
implementing volunteer programs, projects, and activities.
NYC and PNVSCA will continue their partnership in advancing the advocacy on
volunteerism among the youth.
