GENDER AND SOCIETY
I. UNIVERSITY OF CAiLOOCAN CITY PLANS ON FLEXIBLE LEARNING:
A. TYPES OF LEARNERS:
1. Those who have access to the internet and technical resources (laptop or PC).
2. Those with limited access to the internet and who are relying on the use of Cellphone data to attend
synchronous learning. They will also at times rent computers to submit activities.
3. Those with limited access to the internet and Cellphones (those borrowing cell phones to
relatives).
4. Those who do not have the means. (No internet, cellphone or computer rental)
B. PLATFORM FOR ONLINE CLASSES:
1. Google Meet will be the primary platform to be used for weekly synchronous class. The synchronous class
will only be conducted for 1 hour and 30 minutes per session. This is to give consideration to all types of
learners.
-Meeting links for synchronous class will be given 3 days before the scheduled time and day of meeting.
-Students will be given 15 minutes leeway to be on-board the online class. This is to maximize the duration
of the class meet; and to give consideration to those students using mobile data only.
-Synchronous class may follow through with this schedule:
-Students are expected to write notes during the discussion. Likewise, they are expected to work individually
whenever the professor will give them activities, tests, and/or graded recitations.
-Students may address questions every end of the discussion; or they may use the Google Meet Chatbox to
input their query/queries while the discussion is on-going.
-Depending on the magnitude of requirements for each session, the class may skip synchronous meeting as
announced by the instructor prior to the meeting day and time.
-It is understandable under the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (RA 10173), that once the student enrolls in the
university, and shall likewise attend classes conducted online, he/she agrees on being recorded during class
meetings, being part of class photos to be taken as proof of attendance in a session, and provide his/her
certain personal information to the professor that may be used in the course/ lectures.
2. Facebook Messenger Group Chat between the class and the course professor will be used for real-time
communication. As such, this platform will be used by the professor to post class meeting links,
announcements, assignments, and other reminders. Students on the other hand, may use this platform to
converse with their professor about clarification given activities, projects, excuses for non-attendance, and
other difficulties concerning the professor and the course.

3. Active Gmail Account/Google Classroom will be used as the official platform to submit class requirements
such as, but not limited to: reflection papers, reaction papers, critiques, analysis, term papers, group reports,
etc. Asynchronous activities shall likewise be submitted using this platform; or any media as may be advised by
the instructor. The professor is expected to give prompt feedback following the submission of the students.
Students are responsible to keep track of all exchanged communications between them and their professor for
proof of requirement submissions.
4. Synchronous and asynchronous tests will be given via Google Forms. The professor will provide the link of
the exam to the students. In synchronous tests, students will answer the tests all together in a given period of
time. On the other hand, asynchronous tests may be done on the student’s own pace, given adequate time
frame to finish the test. It is expected that students will answer the tests with honesty and complete integrity
as expected from them being students of the university.
5. In cases of unstable internet connection, or the unavailability of technological support, online class may
push-through via off-cam interaction using these platforms:
-Off-line real time chatting between professor and students via Facebook Messenger-Posting of lesson via
the class’ Facebook Group Page while simultaneously posting questions in the comment box
-Sending of lesson in parts via SMS messages from the professor to the students individually whenever the
professor will give them activities, tests, and/or graded recitations.

Concepts, principles, and approaches in the understanding of genders in the Philippine towards an effective gender
responsive society. Gender and Society is a three-unit course that ignites awareness to the students’ understanding
of our country’s current problems in Gender inequality, Gender mainstreaming, Gender preferences, and the likes. It
equips the students with a broader perspective on their gender roles as they discern stereotypes and discriminations
as dictated by the society. It prepares students to be more gender sensitive in words and in actions as they build a
new society filled with gender responsive individuals.
I. Course Objective:
After successful completion of the course, the students are able to:
1. Discuss the context of sex, sexuality and gender following the Philippine social norms.
2. Identify current gender issues in the country.
3. Analyze gender stereotypes and gender inequalities as experienced on the four levels of socialization: at
home, in school, in peer groups, and in mass media.
4. Familiarize with the Philippine Laws concerning sex and gender.
5. Determine action plans to counter abuses or discriminations about gender.
6. Convey positive support on the different gender spectrum.
7. Apply gender sensitivity by correcting inappropriate gender expressions
8. Reinforce erroneous acts that show disrespect towards the different genders
