Project Objectives
The Project aims to achieve the following objectives.
General Objective:
Improve pupils’ reading skills of Grade 2 pupils through an
engaging and interactive reading-based approach.
Specific Objectives:
To improve pupils’ ability to read fluently in a fun and stimulating way.
To enhance the pupils’ reading skills by using Real-like chips
To develop their confidence to read and socialize with other people.
To promote interest and motivation in reading among grade 2 pupils.

Project Summary
Enhancing the Reading Skills of the coping Readers of Grade 2
pupils through the use of WORDS on CHIPS is a project that 3
STAGES to accomplish for grade 2 pupils. The learner must read all the
letters on the first stage using the MANG JUANITO Chips. She/he cannot
go to the next stage unless she/he passed the first level. The second
stage is reading of words by syllables on the NOVACHEE chip. The last
stage requires the learners to read the sentences written on the chips of
LAYSBILI chips.
The activity can be introduced to the pupils during a FILIPINO lesson,
where the teacher explains the rules, demonstrates how to play, and
provides feedback and support as needed. The pupils can then practice
playing the game individually, by two’s or by groups, under the
assistance of the teacher.

This will increase the interest of the learners to read more because the
material is made creatively and real-like chips.
V. Project Background
VI. Reading is an essential skill that plays a important role in almost every
facet of our lives. Though, studies show that many pupils do not enjoy
reading and struggle to master it without a consistent practice and
attractive materials. Pupils who are coping with this skill in reading often
experience lower grades and find it difficult to comprehend in all
subjects. This lack of proficiency in reading can also affects the future of
all learners. Words on Chips aims to solve the problem on low literacy
in the Philippines among grade 2 pupils. This is reflected on the results
of Phil-Iri during their Pre-reading test at the beginning of the school
year. It is a common knowledge that many people struggle to develop the
basic reading skill such as recognition of letter sounds and word
syllables which are essential for daily life and academic pursuits, that is

why at an early age, learners should learn to love and enjoy reading so
that it will be easy for them to learn the basic fundamental skills which
are essential in our daily lives. The primary cause of this issue is the
lack of engagement and excitement associated with conventional
teaching methods. Many pupils find it hard to learn from pure lectures
and a lot of printed letters and words on a thick book, which can be
overwhelming and fail to hold their attention for extended periods of
time. This results in a gap between pupils’ understanding and the
curriculum outlined by DepEd.
This problem we are facing in school must not stay as a problem for it
will surely spread like a virus when it is not prevented early. We found
out that learners pay attention and willing to practice reading when they
are enjoying the process. Words on Chips is an innovation that helped us
encourage the learners to join our reading tutorial sessions. It will be a

help for the many especially reading development is an important growth
to be experience by everybody for it affects personal and professional
growth, as well as daily life. Excelling in reading equips individuals with
the ability to comprehend and be updated with all the new trends in
life .This will give them the chance to know more and to be the better
version of themselves. Those learning that can be acquired by reading
will be applied to various fields including science, technology and other
areas that offers high development. The proposed solution, words on
chips , offers fun, interactive and stimulating way for individuals to
develop their reading skill. This approach can help reignite interest in
reading and provide learners with effective tools to discover their
potential and succeed in their future endeavors.
