Workbook Activities
Introduction

Activity 1.1…
So now’s a good time to ask the question – what type of goal setter are you? (tick the box that best
applies to you):
 I’m an underachiever. I have lots of ambitions but haven’t achieved any (or many) of them yet.
I’m an underachiever by comparison with my work colleagues/ friends and want to prove to myself
that I can do it too!
 I’m achieving, but would like to achieve more.
 I just want to be the best I can be!
 Seasoned goal setter looking for new ways to look at goal setting.
 Repeat ‘New Year’s Resolution’ set-and lack the will power to do them
 something else? … … … …… … …… … …… … …… … ……… .

It doesn’t matter what type of goal setter you are, the process used in this workbook is for everyone
from stay-at-home mums to corporate executives - because the principles of goal setting are the same,
it’s just the personal goals that are different (and personal).

Activity 1.2…
I want you to think about your life and where you are in your life at the moment. Why do you need to
set goals for yourself? (complete the following sentence):

I need to set goals for myself because I need … ........................................................................

Activity 1.3…
You know yourself better than anyone else, and its important for you to know where you might let your
self down in this process. So, are there any reasons why you may not follow the goal setting process
through? (Tick any of the following that apply to you).

 I can’t think of a good reason to set goals.

 I don’t see how goal setting will help me.
 I haven’t got time to do this!
 This is too hard for me.
 I’m afraid that I won’t achieve my goals.

 I’m really not that serious about it.

Now for every trap you think you are likely to fall into, list them out. In BIG LETTERS write the opposite
of the trap – for example, write “I am not afraid of failing” or “This is not too hard for me”. You can say I
can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Make sure you read this every day with conviction
– the power of positive confession is amazing, It can empower you out of these traps
Activity 1.4…
I want you to think about your life again. Have you had ambitions in the past that you haven’t
achieved? Have you tried and failed at goal setting before? After reading the above reasons for goal
setting failure, complete the following sentences:

I haven’t achieved my goals, because….(obstacles, traps, constraints etc)

I have achieved some of my goals because… ...

Again, for every ‘deadly sin’ you think you are likely to commit, list them out. In BIG LETTERS write the
opposite of the sin – for example, write “I will follow my goals through” or “I will take action on my plan”.
Make sure you read this every day with conviction – the power of positive confession is amazing, It can
keep you from succumbing to these OBSTACLES.

LIST TRAPS OR OBSTACLES TO AVOID- Internal & External Obstacles
Determine and list below what is required to reach your goal

Determine and list the additional knowledge and skills you Determine and list the people whose help and
will require to achieve your goals. cooperation you will require to achieve your goals.

Note: To achieve goals you’ve never achieved before, you will need to develop skills you have never had before, do things you’ve never done before. So what
skill and habit are required to break the limit
It’s All About You and Your goals

Activity 2.1…
Based on the above sections, complete the following:

A. List three things you want most in life (Example- Money, Real Estate, Business, Cars, Private
Island, etc.) -I call these your dreams/goals.

These three are your life goals. They enable you do everything you want to do in life, go everywhere you
want to go, bless everyone you want to bless, look after your family, give to God and do whatever you want
to do. These three will be the measure of your vision in life.

Warning: It’s not an easy task from experience, you must think deeply and if you just copy another’s
you miss the goal already.

In choosing, assume no limitations and you’re free to name anything in your heart. You can’t dream
big with survival mentality so forget all limitations while you make this list.

B. Prioritize them – Which is most important to you of these three. List in order of importance

C. Quantify your dream/goal: How much money do you want the most important to generate for you in your
lifetime enough to do all that’s in your heart for God, family, self and humanity.

………………………………………….

We have just done three things with this exercise

1. DREAM 2. PRIORTIZE OUR DREAM 3. QUANTIFY OUR DREAM

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR PERSONAL GOALS?

Are you ready to start creating your personal goals?

Truth is, most people avoid setting personal goals because they simply don’t know what they want.

And that’s why the first step is thinking long and hard what you want out of your life. Here, you need to
define your “what”.

Here are some techniques to help you determine what you want and need in your life.
#1 The “Which? Why? What? How?” Technique
The first technique consists in asking yourself four questions:

1. First, ask yourself which aspect of your life you would like to change most

2. Then, think about why you want to change this

3. How will that change make you feel? Thus, determine what exactly will make you feel this way

4. Finally, ask yourself how you can make this happen and then make it your personal goal

#2. The Life Balance Chart Technique

This technique consists in drawing a little chart. Write down each of the various areas of your life – family,
health, self-development, rest, career, finances, relationships, spiritual – in a new column or line.

Start by assessing your current happiness level in each of these categories by giving it a score from 1 to 10.

Now, think what will make you be fully satisfied with this area so that you can assign 10 out of 10 points to
it. Write down your ideas – you will be able to transform them into personal plans.

We also call this a MIND MAP

Give it a go! Draw your Mind Map now!
Make sure you incorporate the most important life aspects you ranked as most important from the previous
chapter, and for each aspect consider:

• The things you don’t like about your life as it is;

• The things you like about your life;

• What you want to happen/ have;

• What you don’t want to happen/ have.

• The ‘gap’ between your current life and your ‘perfect’ life.

Once you’ve got it all down, stand back and take a look. What’s missing? What are the recurring ideas?
Where are the connections between life aspects? Are there any other life aspects that are more or less
apparent after this process?

#3. Brainstorming technique

Find a quiet place to sit and work on this section for ABOUT 30 minutes. If you find yourself hitting a
roadblock, try getting up and going for a walk, or perhaps taking a shower. Some of my most inspirational
thinking has come from my time spent in the shower.

•Think about everything in your life that is really important to you.

•Think about the couple of things you've really been pondering lately or your biggest struggle in life.
•There are plenty of areas of your life you can set life goals in: careers, family, friends, other relationships,
schooling, spirituality, traveling, fun, charity, money, health, and many more. These are just some to get
your brain churning.

•Write down anything and everything that comes to mind - all of the things you'd like to accomplish and
those that sound fun or exhilarating to you.

My behaviors that will affect my goal setting are:

THE HABITS THAT WILL AFFECT MY GOAL SETTING ARE Bad

habits interrupt your life and prevent you from accomplishing your goals. They jeopardize your health —
both mentally and physically. And they waste your time and energy.

Go back to the activities from Chapter 1 and review your responses. Can any of these ‘behavior’s/habit’
stop me from reaching my goal? List them again and make a commitment to start doing the right things.

.
To get the best out of the goal setting process I therefore need to do the following daily. List the habits that
must be daily embraced, this becomes your new normal.

LIST THEM BELOW

From the above so far, what is the one [or two] most important thing you have learnt about yourself that
you need to remember throughout your goal setting journey? Add this to your new habits and commit to
them. Make sure you read every day with conviction – the power of positive thinking and confessions
amazing and is your key to success
SUMMARY
Seven step goal setting process for success – GOAL BOOSTERS

1. Decide exactly what you want – Be specific

Remember Activity 2.1 above

Your goal must be clear and well defined. Vague or generalized goals are unhelpful because
they don't provide sufficient direction. Remember, you need goals to show you the way. Make
it as easy as you can to get where you want to go by defining precisely where you want to end
up.

A success goal is a specific goal, a goal that incorporates an action plan outlining how you will
achieve the goal and a performance measure that tells you whether you were successful or
not.

This is the goal setting formula for ensuring that you're setting a specific goal:
"I will (goal + performance measure) BY (specific actions)."

2. Write it down – Make it measurable

I’m sure you’ve heard that if you want to achieve a goal, you need to write it down. I know it
sounds a bit cliché, but it actually does work.

A goal that is not in writing is not a goal at all

Why is the power of writing down goals so important?

Dr. Gail Matthews, a psychology professor at the Dominican University in California, recently
studied the art and science of goal setting.
She gathered two hundred and sixty-seven people together — men and women from all over
the world, and from all walks of life, including entrepreneurs, educators, healthcare
professionals, artists, lawyers and bankers.
She divided the participants into groups, according to who wrote down their goals and dreams,
and who didn’t...
And she discovered that those who wrote down their goals and dreams on a regular basis
achieved those desires at a significantly higher level than those who did not.
In fact, she found that you become 42% more likely to achieve your goals and dreams,
simply by writing them down on a regular basis.
The likelihood that you’ll transform your desires into reality goes up even further if you share
your written goals with a friend who believes in your ability to succeed (what I call a “partner in
believing”).

Writing things down happens on two levels: external storage and encoding. External storage is
easy to explain: you’re storing the information contained in your goal in a location (e.g. a piece
of paper) that is very easy to access and review at any time. You could post that paper in your
office, on your refrigerator, etc. It doesn’t take a neuroscientist to know you will remember
something much better if you’re staring at a visual cue (aka reminder) every single day.
But there’s another deeper phenomenon happening: encoding. Encoding is the biological
process by which the things we perceive travel to our brain’s hippocampus where they’re
analyzed. From there, decisions are made about what gets stored in our long-term memory
and, in turn, what gets discarded. Writing improves that encoding process. In other words,
when you write it down it has a much greater chance of being remembered.

3. Set deadlines: set sub deadlines if necessary

The what is the important goal, but achieving it is almost impossible until you set the deadline.
Deadlines Keep You Accountable for Goals

All of life is projects and deadlines. There is no project until you set a deadline.
The way you take control of your life is to make sure you’ve got a deadline for every project
(goal) you choose.

4. Review Activity 1:4

5. Assembly all these details into a plan, organize the plans and get started.

Activity 2:2 SET SMART GOALS

SMART goal setting is the most popular and effective goal setting tool

See worksheet below

This is a tool you can use for the rest of your life. You can print it over and over whenever
its needed.
This is a great investment in yourself for a token.
WHY INVEST IN YOURSELF
Investing in yourself may be the most profitable investment you ever make. It yields not
only future returns, but often a current pay-off as well. The surest way to achieve a better
quality life, to be successful, productive, and satisfied is to place a priority on investing in
both personal and professional growth. The effort you put into consistently investing in
yourself plays a large role in determining the quality of your life now and in the future.
Once a very famous investor Warren Buffett said that “The best investment you can make
is in yourself.” Investing in yourself is the best investment you can ever make, but investing
in yourself is one of the major things in life that gets neglected the most.
The extent to which you invest in yourself, mind and body, not only shapes the way you
interact with the outside world, it often reflects the opinion you have of yourself and gives
you the permission to allow you become the best version of yourself.

Hope this is worth the time.

Thank you
