LEARNING ACTIVITIES

Community integration/engagement is an essential part in community

development and an essential part of self-growth as well as self- actualization. It has been

said that the noblest part of living is when you get lost to the service for others.

Once you serve, it doesn’t only create a positive impact on your community but also gives

beneficial effects on you as a person. When you serve the community, you will help in

increasing the possibility to achieve the community’s goal, contribute to the progress of the

community and help promote solidarity among the community members. As a person you

gain benefits of serving by building connections with others, establishing rapport and

building camaraderie. Also, it promotes a heathier mind and body. Most importantly, it gives

you self-fulfillment and learning that you may be able to use in the future through your

experiences. With this, it is fitting to say that volunteerism is always a two-way process. You

serve and you get served.

Community engagement seeks to better engage the community to achieve long-term

and sustainable outcomes, processes, relationships, discourse, decisionmaking, or

implementation.

To be successful, it must encompass strategies and processes that are sensitive to

the community-context in which it occurs.

Community engagement is work done by a person or group of people that

benefits others. It is often done near the area where you live, so your own community

reaps the benefits of your work. You do not get paid to perform community service but

volunteer your time. It can help many different groups of people: children, senior citizens,

people with disabilities, even animals and the environment. Community service is often

organized through a local group, such as a place of worship, school, or non-profit

organization, but you can also start your own community service projects. Many people

participate in community engagement because they enjoy helping others and improving

their community. Some students are required to do community service in order to

graduate high school or to receive certain honors. Some adults are also ordered by a judge

to complete a certain number of community service hours.

There are numerous benefits to participating in community engagement/ service,

both for yourself and others.

Below are some of the most important benefits of volunteering:

• Gives you a way to help others

• Helps improve your community

• Can help strengthen your resume and college applications

• Can be a way to meet new friends

• Often results in personal growth

• Gives you a way to gain work experience and learn more about certain jobs

experience in community engagement? If yes, then you will proceed to activity tasks
