The Last Light

INT. BEDROOM – DAY

A young man, FINN, sits by the window, gazing at the sun-filled sky. He’s optimistic and
filled with hope for the future.

FINN
(Optimistic) Todays a beautiful day. There’s
so much potential in the world. I cant wait
to see what the future holds.

Finn stands up, grabs his phone and his keys, and walks out the door with high hopes for his
day.

EXT. TOWN/PATHWAY – DAY

The area is bustling with life, people going about there daily routines, enjoying the sunshine.
Finn plugs his ear plugs into his phone and plays music as it starts to overtake the noise in
the scene.
Finn walks away down a path on the side of the road, smiling as he looks at the locals and
then looks up the sun.

INT. BEDROOM – NIGHT

Finn watches the news, hearing about a solar flare heading towards earth.

NEWS ANCHOR
(Fearful) We have just had reports from the
prime minister that all our Scientists are
predicting a solar flare to Hit the earth
tomorrow morning, causing catastrophic
Damage. We advise all family’s to stay inside
with there loved ones and make the most of
there time left on this planet.
Finn is in shock and disbelief that his home could be destroyed in a matter of hours but still
Finn finds a wat to remain optimistic, calm, and he hopes for the best outcome.

FINN
Maybe it’s a test or maybe its not as serious
As there making it out to be. Just in case i
Better make the most of tonight.

Finn leaves the room. Before he shuts the door he turns off the light and then we hear the
door shut. On screen we see “10 hours later”.

EXT. TOWN/PATHWAY – MORNING

The solar flare hits. A blinding light sweeps across the city, Disintegrating everything in its
path. People scream as they vanish.

INT. BEDROOM – MORNING

Finn holds on tight to a stopwatch his grandfather gave him and curls up. The stopwatch
begins to glow in his hand. Finn shuts his eyes tightly when suddenly all the shaking and
devastation stops. Finn looks up, stunned by the devastation outside.

FINN
(Teary-eyed) I can’t believe it… How am I the
only one Left.

EXT. TOWN/PATHWAY – DAY

Finn walks through the ruins, absorbing the gravity of the situation. He starts finding hope
amidst the destruction. Finn scavenges through the rubble and destruction to find lifeless
hands and objects like phones and children’s toys.

FINN
(Optimistic) I have to honour their memory by
Rebuilding as much as I can and finding a way
to survive, or at least do as much good as I
can with the rest of my life.

EXT. ABANDONED STREETS – DAY

Finn wanders through the deserted streets, marvelling at the eerie silence and remnants of the
world that once was. He looks around with a despaired face but not looking as distressed as
the audience would expect due to his optimistic outlook on life.

FINN
How could they not have warned us any earlier
About this. I had so much left to do.

Finn walks down the street in silence, wondering why he is still alive and why this disaster
happened.

EXT. ABANDONED PARK – AFTERNOON

Finn jumps up and hangs from a pole as he swings in silence. He drops down and leaves the
park, not caring about his actions but still finding a way to stay optimistic.

INT. BEDROOM – EVENING

Finn starts eating and drinking whatever he can find in his house, leaving rubbish and cans
all over the floor. He tries to find spots in his house and outside that have phone service,
hoping that he truly isn’t the last man on earth.

EXT. WOODS/STREET – MONTHS LATER

Finn has built a shelter and from time to time explores the houses on his street and scavenges
for food.

FINN
(VO) Even in the darkest times there’s hope.
I will keep pushing forward, to a brighter
Future. If your listing to this, I’m still
Out here, roaming the earth, scavenging and
finding new areas to shelter…

Finn kneels down looking off into the distance as he continues making an audio log for
anyone who comes across his already visited areas.

EXT. OVERGROWN PATHWAY – DAY

FINN
…I suffer everyday wondering if anyone’s left
But the thought of people listening to these
Recordings keeps me hopeful. This is Finn
signing off.

Finn drops the audio recorder on the ground and walks away. He takes his time walking
away from the low down camera as it starts to blur out to black.
