Sample Lesson Plan - 1

This document outlines a lesson plan for a 10th grade Makabayan class on earthquakes and disaster preparedness. The objectives are for students to identify different fault types, describe earthquake epicenter distribution, and demonstrate disaster preparedness. The lesson will engage students with a previous volcanoes lesson, have them discuss scenarios of a major earthquake, and explain key concepts. Students will then demonstrate preparedness and identify terms in an evaluation. The goal is for students to understand earthquakes and know how to stay safe during one.

I. OBJECTIVES
CONTENT STANDARDS The learners demonstrate an understanding of the
relationship among the locations of volcanoes,
earthquake, epicenters, and mountain ranges.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS The learners shall be able to demonstrate ways to
ensure the disaster preparedness during
earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions.
SPECIFIC LEARNING OBJECTIVES At the end of the discussion, the students should
be able to:
• identify the different types of faults;
• describe the distribution of earthquake
epicenters; and
• demonstrate disaster preparedness.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Content
Topic: Earthquakes and Getting Ready for Earthquakes
B. Instructional Materials
• Chalk
• Blackboard

B. Lesson Proper

ENGAGE
The teacher will ask the insights of her students about their previous lesson on
Volcanoes.
1. Where volcanoes was formed?
2. What are the types of volcanoes?
3. Differentiate active volcano to inactive volcano?

EXPLORE
The Big One. The teacher will divide the class into two groups. The students will
make a scenario about their thoughts or idea on the big one. Each group will be given
three minutes to perform the activity.

EXPLAIN
The teacher will discuss the concept about Earthquakes and Getting Ready for
Earthquakes. She will explain the distribution of earthquake epicenters, differentiate
the types of faults, and demonstrate the disaster preparedness.

ELABORATE
The whole class will participate actively and demonstrate the disaster
preparedness before, during, and after the earthquake.
EVALUATE
Direction. Identify the following statements.

1. The point on the Earth's surface located directly above the focus of an earthquake.

2. This faults form when the hanging wall drops down.

3. It refers to the shaking of the Earth as a result of the breaking or shifting of the rocks of the tectonic
plates.

4. It is a combination of a strike slip and a dip slip.

5. It is an example of strike slip fault.

Key Answers:

1. Epicenter

2. Normal Fault

3. Earthquake

4. Oblique strike slip

5. San Andreas Fault

IV. AGREEMENT

On a 1 wholes sheet of paper the students will answer the following questions. (10 pts.)

1. Why should we be alarmed by earthquakes?

2. What should you do during an earthquake?
