Worksheet 1 – Mean, Median and Mode

1. Determine the mean, median and mode for each of the following sets of
numbers.
a. 12, 19, 13, 6, 8, 1, 7, 9, 20, 15
b. 78, 89, 64, 93, 86, 54, 48, 23

2. The numbers 3, 5, 7, 8 and N are arranged in ascending order. If the mean of the
numbers is equal to the median, find N.

3. In a class of 20 students, the mean height of 12 boys is 1.70 m and the mean
height of the girls is 1.60 m. Find:
a) The total height of the boys.
b) The total height of the girls.
c) The mean height of all the students.

4. A group of 50 people were asked how many books they had read in the previous
year, the results are shown in the frequency table below.

No. of books 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Frequency 5 5 6 9 11 7 4 2 1
