Solved - Assignment Nº1

The document provides exercises from chapters 2 and 3 on solving procedures involving significant figures, error analysis, and area calculations. It includes problems calculating sums, products, quotients within a specified number of significant figures or percentage error. It also covers calculating the most probable length, standard deviation, and expected error ranges from distance measurement data. Further questions involve estimating standard deviation and error for longer taped distances and calculating the area and estimated error of a rectangular field given side length values with associated errors.

ASSIGNMENT #1 SOLVING PROCEDURES

EXERCISES. Chapters 2 and 3

1 Give answers to the following problems in the correct number of Significant Figures.
1.1 Sum of 23.15, 0.984, 124 and 12.5 (5%)
23.15 + 0.984 + 124 + 12.5 = 160.634
→ 160. (𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑑)
→ 161. (𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑑)
® The answer should have the same number of decimal places as the limiting term,
which is the number with least decimal places).

1.2 Sum of 36.15, 0.806, 22.4 and 196.458 (5%)

36.15 + 0.806 + 22.4 + 196.458 = 255.814
→ 255.8
® The answer should have the same number of decimal places as the limiting term,
which is the number with least decimal places).

1.3 Product of 276.75 and 33.7 (10%)

276.75 × 33.7 = 9326.475
→ 9320
→ 9.32 × 10!
® The answer should have the same number of significant figures as the limiting
term, which is the number with least significant figures.

1.4 Quotient of 4930.27 divided by 1.29 (10%)

4930.27 ÷ 1.29 = 3821.91473
→ 3820
→ 3.82 × 10!
® The answer should have the same number of significant figures as the limiting
term, which is the number with least significant figures.
