1. Installation Procedure for Modicon Libraries - General Purpose
Follow the steps below to import Modicon Libraries - General Purpose into Control Expert
Step No Description
1. Download "Modicon Libraries - General Purpose 2020. zip" file from Schneider Electric “Industry
End Users and SI Campus”, and extract its contents.
2. Extract the "Modicon Libraries - General Purpose 2020 Setup. zip" file in your local hard disk to
get five GPL base libraries as shown below, to be imported in to Control Expert.
Existing Library - user must remove the Library family manually before installing the Latest

"Modicon Libraries - General Purpose".
Follow the below steps for removing the existing Library from the “Types Library Manager”.
Step – 1: Open Control Expert.
Step – 2: Go to Tools and click “Types Library Manager”.
Step – 3: Select the Library Family which needs to be removed and click “Delete”.
For Windows 10: - Click Start menu > EcoStruxure Control Expert > Types Library Update

For Windows 2012 Server: - Click Start menu > EcoStruxure Control Expert > Types Library

In "Types library update" dialog box, browse & Select the library (Family.Dsc) from extracted

folders as illustrated in images below and then click "Install Family"
Step:1 – Click the browse button.
Step:2 – Go to family and select the “Family.DCS” file and click “Open”
Step:3 – Click the “Install family” button.

After successful installation of family, user will get a popup window showing “Installation has

Succeeded”.
7. Open Control Expert, Click Tools >Types Library Manager. User should able to see
"GPL_Communication" Library under "General Purpose Library".
8. Repeat the same steps for GPL_Devices, GPL_Diagnostics, GPL_Process
& GPL_SignalConditioning to have Complete GPL Libraries.
Note: User must follow the same sequence as described above.
9. User must install “Modicon Libraries - General Purpose 2020” and then “PRM Library” if
user needs both the Library in the system.

2. Post Installation Procedure
➢ Control Expert Project Settings
To successfully build and download the Control Expert project you need to perform the following
changes to the “Project Settings” in the build Control Expert project:
• Open the generated *.stu or *.xef file in Control Expert.
• Open the Control Expert "Project Settings" by clicking "Tools → Project Settings".
• Select “Variables” and activate the checkmark for item “Allow Dynamic arrays
(ANY_ARRAY_XXX)” to avoid the detected error “E1208 usage of dynamic arrays is disabled”
reported when compiling the Control Expert project.
• Uncheck the option “Force references initialization”

➢ Select “Languages → Common” and activate the checkmark for item “Allow Multi assignment [a=b=c]
(ST/LD)” to avoid the detected error “E1203 usage of multi assignment statements is disabled”
reported when compiling the Control Expert project.

3. How to replace the old DFB to latest DFB.
➢ Update the latest DFB’s in the existing project.
If user want to replace current used DFB to the latest DFB’s in the existing Control Expert project.
• Open the Control Expert "Types Library Manager" by clicking "Tools → Types Library
Manager".
• Select the “General Purpose Library” and select the DFB which as to be updated.

• Go to the DFB and right click and select the “Copy into Project”

• Latest DFB will update to the existing project. Below Popup will show the existing version and latest
version of DFB to be update. Click “OK”

• After update, the existing project goes to “Not Build” state, build the Control Expert project and
download to the controller.
