T- Test Problem Set.
1. Our hypothetical scenario is that we are comparing scores from two teaching methods. We
drew two random samples of students. One sample comprises students who learned using
Method A while the other sample learned using Method B. These samples contain entirely
different students. Now, we want to determine whether the two means are different.
t-Test: Two-Sample Assuming Equal Variances
Method A Method B
Mean 71.50206667 84.74266667
Variance 88.63167407 69.0553781
Observations 15 15
Pooled Variance 78.84352608
Hypothesized Mean Difference 0
df 28
t Stat -4.08371361
P(T<=t) one-tail 0.000167795
t Critical one-tail 1.701130934
P(T<=t) two-tail 0.00033559
t Critical two-tail 2.048407142
Analysing Result
If t Stat < -t Critical two-tail or t Stat > t Critical two-tail, we reject the null hypothesis. The data that
was calculated showed that -4.0837<-2.048.The t Stat is less than the -t Critical two-tail. Therefore
we reject the null hypothesis.
Conclusion
In conclusion, there is a significant difference on the students that are using Method A with the
students that are using Method B in terms of their scores.
2. Imagine that we have a training program, and we need to determine whether the difference
between the mean pretest score and the mean posttest score is significantly different.
t-Test: Paired Two Sample for Means
Pretest Postest
97.0626666
Mean 7 107.8346667
106.216992
Variance 4 175.4698267
Observations 15 15
Pearson Correlation 0.57450724
Hypothesized Mean Difference 0
df 14
t Stat -3.73418008
0.00111091
P(T<=t) one-tail 4
1.76131013
t Critical one-tail 6
0.00222182
P(T<=t) two-tail 8
2.14478668
t Critical two-tail 8
Analysing Result
If t Stat < -t Critical two-tail or t Stat > t Critical two-tail, we reject the null hypothesis. Based from the
data that we have gathered through data analysis, it showed that -3.7342<-2.145. Meaning that the t
Stat < -t Critical two-tail. Therefore we reject the null hypothesis of the given.
Conclusion
Therefore, there is a significant difference between the mean pretest score and the mean posttest
score that was taken.
