Listening to stories is fun and can bring you to different
places through your imagination. Reading has a lot of
benefits, it widens our imaginations, increases our
vocabulary and comprehension.
This module is made for you to be able to develop
your reading skills through reading stories that enable you
to identify cause and effect or effect of the events in the
stories read. EN1LC-IIIa-j-1.1
In this module, you are expected to:
a. identify cause and effect or effect of events.

Directions: Read each sentence and identify the
underlined phrase if it is a cause or an effect by shading its
corresponding circle. Write your answer on a separate
sheet of paper.

Anything that happens has two parts that is the CAUSE
AND EFFECT. Cause is the reason why something
happened. Effect is the result of what happened.
Here are some key words for Cause and Effect:

The Rainbow Surprise
Jack is a little boy who loves to at the rainbow in the
sky. His older brother told him that at the end of the
rainbow there is a wonderful surprise.
One day, it rained in their area. When the rain stopped,
Jack went outside their house. He saw a beautiful
rainbow in the sky. He named the colors red, orange,
yellow, green, blue, violet. He could not tell the name of
one color. “I will ask my brother what the color is” said
Jack. He asked his older brother “It is Indigo, Jack.” His
older brother said.
Jack told himself that one day he will climb up the
rainbow and see what surprises the rainbow has for him

What I Have Learned
In listening to a story/poem, it is important to take note
of the important details. The elements of the story such as
the characters, setting, and plot will enable the listener to
thoroughly understand the story.
Also, identifying the cause and effect or effect of
events in the story will help the reader analyze the story
which will help for better retention.
