Spool Stroke Control
This training program will explain the “Spool Stroke Control System”.

This is a new feature for the CX_C excavator and will be used on the CX250C,
CX300C,, and CX350C models.

Overview: By reducing hydraulic pressures not needed in the hydraulic system, we

can reduce the load on the engine and reduce fuel consumption.

If pump requirements are decreased, engine horsepower is decreased therefore

lowering fuel consumption.

Enhanced Pump Transition Control

Enhanced Pump Transition Reduction Control System Overview

This training program will give an overview of the “Enhanced Pump Transition
Reduction Control System”.

This is a new feature for the CX_C excavator and will be used on the CX250C,
CX300C and CX350C models.

Overview: The pump transition reduction system has been used on the CX_B
models to decrease main pump loads and reduce fuel consumption. The pump
transition reduction system has been improved giving the CX_C increased sensitivity
to control and monitor main pump loads and reduce fuel consumption.

Pump Transition Reduction Control System

Purpose: Is to detect sudden and immediate machine operation and monitor related
main pump loads.

Result: Lowering the main pump horsepower on the engine, preventing engine lug-
down and unnecessary engine loads.

With additional machine side sensors added to the CX_C, the main computer is now
able to closelyy monitor all operator
p working
g characteristics.

Two main topics will be covered in this section:

•Pump Added Horsepower Control
•Pump Horsepower Cut Control

Energy Saving Features

17
Enhanced Pump Transition Control

Pump added Horsepower Control

Purpose
To prevent a drop in the engine speed when a lever is operated suddenly, or when
there is a high load, when travelling, etc.

Operation
1. Reduces the amount of speed drop under high load (SP-H mode)
Operation conditions................. For high load When the P1 & P2 pressure
becomes high voltage, the current to the pump horsepower control proportional
valve Imax is changed Low ֜ High to increase the pump flow.
2. Reduces the amount of speed drop under high load when digging with the arm-in
(SP-H mode) When the arm-in operation is detected by the arm-in pilot pressure
sensor, high load is detected faster than for other operations.
3. Response speed up for sudden lever operation
Operation conditions ................ For sudden lever operation When sudden lever
operation is detected by the N1 or N2 negative control pressure sensor, the
current to the pump horsepower control proportional valve Imax is changed Low
֜ High to increase the pump flow. For travel operation
4. For travel operation, the pump current is fixed to 600 mA. However, if the engine
speed is 1300 rpm or less, the pump current is fixed to 50 mA. (Prevention of
engine stalling is given priority)

Sudden load reduction control

When the engine is under a sudden load, the current to the pump horsepower
proportional valve first drops to 50 mA.
After that, the current is gradually raised while watching the difference between the
actual engine speed and the target engine speed.
Sudden load reduction control is executed in all work modes.
The engine is judged to be under a sudden load when the following conditions are
met.
1. Sudden lever operation: When there is sudden lever operation, this is judged
from the upper side pressure sensor state
state.
2. Operation for high loads and sudden loads: Judged from the P1 or P2
pump pressure sensor and from the pump main pressure boost state

Engine stalling prevention control

When the target engine speed is 1300 rpm or less, the current is 50 mA.

PID control
When the engine actual speed falls to 30 rpm or more below the target engine speed,
the current is gradually lowered to “I Minimum” (50 mA). When the difference of the
actual engine speed from the target engine speed falls to less than 30 rpm, the
current rises to the I Max High for the each mode (600 mA).

Backup control
If trouble occurs in a pressure sensor (P1, P2, upper side), the sudden load
restriction control is not carried out. If trouble occurs in the pump horsepower control
proportional valve, the output from the computer stops (0 mA).

Basic CX_B concept: After sudden load is applied to excavator, mA’s drop to (I min)
position. After initial drop, mA’s immediately increase to 300 mA level. At 300mA level
mA’s slowly increase to (I max lo) position based on main pump load, engine rpm and
working characteristics.

This training program will explain the “Auto Energy Save System”.

This is a new feature for the CX

CX_C
C excavator and will be used on the CX250C
CX250C,
CX300C and CX350C models.

Overview: The purpose of this system is to reduce fuel consumption by lowering the
engine rpm when not activating any functions.

Apart from the standard Auto-Idle feature, it will also reduce the discomfort to the
operator due to engine vibration and its feature is to lower the engine speed quickly
by 50 rpm.

Power Save Control Purpose

When no lever is operated, the pump load is reduced with the control described
below to reduce fuel consumption.
The control methods are the following two.
1. The negative control relief pressure is varied and the negative control pressure is
lowered to reduce the pump load.
2. The pump discharge amount is set to the minimum flow.
Note: Not every machine is equipped with the power save feature.

Operation explanation
1 Normal operation
1.
If more than one second passes with all the sensor signals to the computer OFF
(upper side, travel, option and swing pressure), the computer judges that no
Pilot lever is being operated and outputs maximum current to the P1 flow control
proportional valve and turns on the power save solenoid valve.

P1 pump discharge is reduced

1. The P1 flow volume proportional valve current is increased from 50 mA to
740 mA.
2. The P1 pump swash plate is switched to the minimum tilt angle and the
discharge amount is set to its minimum.

P2 pump discharge is reduced

1. When the power save solenoid valve is switched on, Pilot Pressure is fed to
the P2 pump negative control port via the Power Save solenoid valve.
2. The P2 pump swash plate is switched to the minimum tilt angle and the
discharge amount is set to its minimum.

Energy Saving Features

25
Power Save

Negative control pressure reduction

1. When the power save solenoid valve is switched on, the negative control foot
relief valve spring chamber is linked with the tank line and the negative control
foot relief valve setting pressure drops from 435 psi to 145 psi (3 MPa to 1 MPa).
2. By reducing the negative control relief pressure, the pressure within the circuit is
reduced, and the horsepower used by the pump is reduced. This saves energy.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Operation of the solenoid valves when the engine is stopped
with the key ON. Even if no lever is operated, when the engine stops, the battery
save function works and there is no output to the P1 flow control proportional valve or
the power save solenoid valve.

Operation for trouble

If a fault occurs on either the input side (upper side, swing, travel or option pressure
sensor) or the output side (P1 flow control proportional valve, power save solenoid
valve), the system treats this as operation being underway and control is fixed to the
following. Current to the P1 flow proportional valve is set to 50 mA, the power save
solenoid valve is always OFF.
<Caution>
During an electrical problem, even if the fault is ended, the trouble mode in Computer
A does not end until the key is switched OFF, and then ON again.

System”.

This is a new feature for the CX_C excavator and will be used on the CX250C,

・Engine rpm lower control: Four Pressure Sensor (P1, P2, N2, Swing Pilot) P1 P2 N2 Pilot

・Engine rpm raise control: Two Pressure Sensor (P2, N2)

System Overview: With engine running controller A monitors the pressures of the P1,
P2, N2 and Swing pilot pressure transducers. If the pressures in the P1, P2, N2 and
Swing pressure transducers indicate that the operator is booming down and swinging
or swinging only than computer A sends a signal to the ECM to lower the engine
speed by 100 rpm. The ECM than lowers the engine by 100 rpm’s.

With engine running at 100 rpm lower, controller A monitors the pressures of the P2
and N2 pressure transducers. If the pressures in the P2 and N1 indicate that the
operator is no longer booming down and swinging or swinging only than computer A
sends a signal to the ECM to raise the engine rpm. The ECM than raises the engine
by 100 rpm’s.

The ECM will than allow the engine rpm to raise back to the full engine rpm position
based on the selected work mode.

Swing Relief Cut

Purpose
When swing operation is running alone, the pump flow is reduced, and the excess oil
ejected from the swing motor relief valve is eliminated.

Operation explanation
1. Operation conditions for swing relief cut control
The swing relief cut control provides relief when the pressure is boosted for the start
of the swing due to sudden swing operation and the drained off excess oil is held to
the lowest amount possible. The purpose is to provide an energy saving effect.
Control is executed when all the conditions below are satisfied.
1. Sudden swing operation ・・・ When the swing lever is operated, this is judged
from the swing pilot pressure sensor pressure rise.
2. Within 1 second after start of swing
3. Travel non-operation ・・・ Travel pressure sensor OFF
4. No attachments other than boom down are operating.・・・ That no attachment
is operating is judged from the N2 negative control pressure & P1 pressure
sensor.
5. Option line non-operation ・・・ Option pressure sensor OFF

Control contents
For the swing relief cut operation, after the current to the P1 flow control proportional
valve is increased and the P1 flow is reduced, while checking the P1 pump discharge
pressure,, the system
p y gradually
g y reduces the output
p current to the P1 flow control
proportional valve and raises the P1 pump flow to the constant swing speed.

Swing Speed Limit

Purpose:
When the pump flow rises during a swing operation, the swing speed increases.
To prevent this, control of the pump flow is performed. (Swing speed control)

Operation explanation
Operation conditions for swing speed limit control
Control is executed when all the conditions below are satisfied.
1. Swing alone full lever operation ・・・ Judged from the N1 and N2 negative
control pressure sensors and P1 and P2 pressure sensors
2 Travel
2. T ti ・・・ Travel
l non-operation T l pressure sensor OFF
3. The work mode is SP mode.

Control contents
The output current to the P1 flow control valve is set to the maximum of 350 mA and
the P1 pump flow is reduced.

Swing speed limit end conditions

1. Travel operation ֜ Immediate end (to prevent drift)
2. Other attachment operation ֜ Gradual end (to reduce shock)
3. Option circuit operation
