Good day everyone!
This morning we are going to discuss how you are going to navigate the
different platforms that we are using here in Bixby Knolls. But before that let us define first what
is a Google Workspace and its different application that we are using here in Bixby. So, Google
Workspace it is a set of communication and collaboration apps built for people in organizations
that brings the digital office to users. What are the ADVANTAGES?
1. Collaborate in real-time where in you can easily share or pass any documents or videos.
2. Store and share files in the cloud. You can save important files. A cloud is like a drawer or
cabinet where in you can keep your important files.
3. Secure your data and devices. Google can save your data or personal files.
The following are the different applications of Google that are commonly used here at school.
1. What is Gmail? Gmail also offers users the ability to chat with other Gmail users in real time,
as well as make video calls. Our domain account has bigger storage than the usual email
account.
So now that you have information about the different applications of Google Workspace, let us
now discuss how you are going to navigate the four different platforms that are commonly used
here in Bixby. The first one is the Bixby domain, also known as the Gmail account of your child.
It is provided by the school, and all you have to do is activate it once we send the username and
temporary passwords. You can change the password right away; just remember the one you
made. For the former students here, your username and password will be the same. For this
Bixby domain, once you have access to navigate it, you can see there the emails from the
school if there are special announcements or sudden changes in the schedule of your child, and
you can also use it if you have concerns about your child. You can chat with the teacher using
the chat hangout, which is also the fastest way to contact the teachers here in school.
How to log in Bixby domain account (Explain the steps in the presentation)
For Gmail, we are also requiring each student to have an e-signature and profile picture.
(Explain the steps in the presentation)
For the profile picture, it is much better if your child is wearing a Bixby uniform. How to make an
E- signature: First open your Gmail, then on the Upper right side look for the settings, click the
settings, then choose See all settings. Right after that, scroll down and look for the signature,
then click Create New. Write the name of your signature, then paste the example signature from
Bixby. Write the full name of your child, the grade level and section, and then the Gmail
address. Scroll down and save the changes.
For the example signature, you can look for it in the emails of Bixby since all of the teachers and
staff here have one, then paste it into Microsoft Word and edit the name, grade level, and
section of your child.
The second one is the Google Classroom (Explain the steps in the presentation)
; you can navigate this one using the Gmail of your child. Just go to the right upper side of
Gmail, where you can see the Google app. Choose the classroom. Then on the upper right side,
you can see the + sign, where it will give you two choices: join the class or create a class.
Choose join class, then enter the code from the teacher of your child. After that, you can
navigate to the Google Classroom, where you see the Streams (for the announcement from the
teacher), Classwork (the incoming assignments of your child that you need to turn in; you can
also see here if your child has missing assignments), and People (the classmates of your child
and his or her teachers).
For those who don’t know how to turn in the assignments, all you have to do is take a picture of
the assignments; it can be from the book or notebooks of your child. Just upload it to the Google
Classroom. It can be a video as well.
The other way to join the google classroom is through the teacher’s invitation. You can check
the invitation in the Gmail account of your child.
Third is Khan Academy, which is mostly used in Math assignments. It is like an online quiz
where you can see the score right away. You need to screen-shot the score of your child, then
send it to Google Classroom because there are times that Khan Academy doesn’t record the
score. How to navigate it. First search it khanacademy.org/join then enter the code from the
teacher, then log in to your existing account, then continue with google, choose the account of
your child. You can see the assignments on the left side of the screen.
The other way to join the khan academy is through the link of it from the teacher.
Fourth is Class dojo. ClassDojo is for use in the classroom, assigning positive values to the
class and as areas that need work. For example, a student might get a positive, such as "good
teamwork," but then may also be given a needs-work notice for no homework.
Behavior is rated with a number that the teacher can pick, from one to five points. Negative
behavior is also weighed on a scale of minus one to minus five points. Students then are left
with a score on which they can work to improve. It also provides an at-a-glance score for both
teacher and parents to track student progress.
You can also have access to the dojo through codes, but these codes last only for 24 hours. The
first thing that you need to do is search for it on Google, then once you have it, choose student,
enter the codes from the teacher, and find the name of your kid in the list. If you have access
now, you can change the avatar.
We also now have Canva for Education, this application can help the students in making
presentations or creative slides for the reporting specifically for upper elementary students,
using your Bixby domain account, you can have the license to search for any topic or videos of
some specific lessons that you want to learn more about.
If you have concerns or clarifications, you can message the teacher of your child regarding this.
That would be all. Thank you so much.
