Topic: Basic Concept, Long Division, Synthetic Division, and Theorems

A. Polynomial: Basic Concept, Long Division and Synthetic Division
1. Find (i) the constant term (ii) the coefficient of x4 (iii) the degree of the polynomials (iv) name of the
polynomials based on its degree

2. Suppose𝑓(𝑥) = 5𝑎𝑥 3 − 6𝑥 2 − 𝑏 2 𝑥 − 7, and 𝑔(𝑥) = 𝑐𝑥 4 + 10𝑥 3 − (𝑑 + 1)𝑥 2 − 4𝑥 + 𝑒. Find values

for constants a, b, c, d and e given that f(x) = g(x).

3. Perform the following operations and find the degree of the result

4. Carry out the following divisions using long divisions and write the answer by stating the quotient
Q(x), the divisor D(x) and the remainder R(x).
And then, write it in the form of f(x) = D(x) Q(x) + R(x)

5. Carry out the following divisions using synthetic divisions and write the answer by stating the
quotient Q(x), the divisor D(x) and the remainder R(x).
And then, write it in the form of f(x) = D(x) Q(x) + R(x)
