ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Assalamualaikum wbt. First of all I would like to show my gratitude towards my
BST110 (Material Properities) ‘s lecturer, Madam Nurazura binti Mizal Azzmi for her
guidance through out this project.
Moreover, I would like to say thank you towards my groupmates who gave a
great cooperation along the process.Thank you to you guys for providing me many
information that I lack and helping me fixing my flaws.
I would like to extend my gratitude to my classmates too for easing everything
though out this project.
OBJECTIVE
Slump test is used to measures the consistency of a concrete batch to see how
easily the concrete will flow. It also a method used to determine the usefulness of a
sample of a batch of fresh concrete of given mix.
The test not only for observing the consistency and determining the workability
of a sample, but it also identifies defect in a mix. This can help the operator to make a
minor change before it is poured on site.
MATERIALS
For slump test, we used this kind of materials to under go the process ;
MATERIALS USE
One of the ingredient for the concrete mixture
AGGREGATES
One of the ingredient for the concrete mixture
SAND
One of the ingredient for the concrete mixture
CEMENT
One of the ingredient for the concrete mixture
WATER
EQUIPMENT
EQUIPMENTS USE
Measure the workability of a fresh concrete mix.
SLUMP CONE
Scooping the ingredient for the concrete mix
SCOOP
Place to mix the ingredientt for the concrete mix
SAMPLING TRAY
Mixing the concrete mixture
SHOVEL/ MIXER
Tamping the concrete mixture inside the slump
cone
TAMPING RODE
Measure the slump
MEASURING TAPE
Medium to transfer the concrete mix from
sampling tray to the slump cone
FUNNEL
Place to tamp the concrete mix
BASE PLATE
PROCEDURE
1) Mix the aggregates, sand, cement and the water all together using a
measurement that have been calculate according to the grade that have
been chosen in a sampling tray using the shovel/mixer. Mix well untill
the concrete mix blend together.
2) Prepare the equipment ( slump cone, funnel and the tamping rode) on
the base plate.
3) Step on the paddle beside the slump cone to make sure it will not
move as shown as diagram 1.
Diagram 1
4) Using the scoop, scoop the concrete mix and put it in the slump cone
through the funnel carefully.Between the scoops, make sure to tamp the
concrete mix using the tamping rode to maximize the volume inside the
cone. Make sure to fill in the cone to the brim.
5) Lift up the slump cone carefully then, place the slump cone and the
tamping rode as shown as diagram 2.
Diagram 2
6) After the concrete mix comes to a stop, measure the slump of the
concrete using a measuring tape as shown as diagram 3.
Diagram 3
RESULT
>Result we got for this test is true slump which is the height of slump is 4cm or
40mm. The consistensy of the slump is plastic stiff (hard) where the slump between
2.54cm-5.08cm.
> Calculation
CONCRETE GRADE 25
cement sand aggregate water
= 1/5.5 x 17.28 = 1.5/5.5 x 17.28 = 3/5.5 x 17.28 = 3.142 x 0.50
= 3.142 kg = 4.713kg = 9.435kg = 1.571 kg
ANALYSIS
>According to the result, 40mm is true slump which is low workability
and the concrete mix is suitable to be use as construction works material.
Generally there are 4 types of slumps. There are zero slump, true
slump, collapsed slump and shear slump. The true slump is the most
workable slump for construstion work.
CONCLUSION
> As the conclusion, the slump test do really measures the consistency of a concrete
batch to see how easily the concrete will flow. This test is well-known with the simple
apparatus used and simple procedure. We can definitely sense the early defect of the
concrete mixture by looking at the slump pattern after the tamping process. From this,
we can avoid any damage for future construction works.
