4.2 Installation Methods

4.2.1 System Installation methods

There are two methods to newly install 800xA system,
• Manual installation and
• Auto installation.
Most preferred method of 800xA installation is “Auto installation”.

When the 800xA System Installation DVD 1 is inserted into the drive, the Installation
AUTORUN screen will appear. If it does not, navigate to the root directory of the
DVD and manually launch AUTORUN.exe. This screen allows direct access to the
various 800xA Base System and Functional Area software installation programs that
in most cases starts the 800xA Installation Wizard for that program.

Chapter 4 - 3

4.2.2 Online Up gradation

Procedure
Online Upgrade makes it possible to upgrade an existing 800xA System (latest
revision of 800xA 5.0 SP2 or later) without a process shutdown. Plant operations are
not disturbed while upgrading server and client software, including OCS connectivity
services, and AC 800M Controllers (processor units and communication interfaces
(CI)). The 800xA System being upgraded must have redundant Aspect and
Connectivity Servers, and redundant AC 800M Controllers consisting of two
redundant processing units connected to I/O modules either directly to the module bus
or via various CI modules.
Online Upgrade Controller Level allows AC 800M controllers to be upgraded with
new firmware versions online. Online upgrade is initiated from Control Builder by a
nine-step wizard.
The nodes are upgraded in the following order:
• Domain Controller.
• One redundant Aspect Server.
• One redundant 800xA for Harmony Configuration Server for each redundant
800xA for Harmony Configuration Server configuration.
• 800xA for AC 870P/Melody Configuration Server.
• One redundant Connectivity Server for each redundant Connectivity
• Server configuration.
• Third Aspect Server (if 2oo3 redundancy).
• Some clients.
• IM Server.
• All other Application Servers (Batch, Asset Optimization, PC, Network and
Software Monitoring, etc.).
• All other nodes except Primary Aspect Server.
• Primary Aspect Server.
• The client and server level is upgraded and the plant is fully operable, although the
controllers are not upgraded. The controller level is upgraded as follows:
• Some redundant Controller pairs (and CEX units if needed).
• Remaining redundant Controller pairs (if desired).
• Nonredundant controllers (no CEX units). Upgrading nonredundant controllers
will require minimal plant downtime.

Chapter 4 - 4
System 800xA Training

Considerations
Concurrent access to the current 800xA System version and the 800xA 5.1 system is
recommended until the upgrade has been performed. This makes it possible to easily
retrieve any data or files that have been missed. Concurrent access depends upon
many different factors, including:
• Configuration of the existing system.
• Desired configuration of the 800xA 5.1 system.
• Server and client use strategy.
• Configuration of user and user groups.
• Use of service accounts.
• Domain controllers.
• Redundancy.
• Logical and physical networks.
One strategy is to leave a minimal part of the existing system intact, such as an Aspect
Server, while preparing a major part of the 800xA 5.1 System. Another strategy is to
prepare a minimal 800xA 5.1 System. Retaining an Aspect Server from the existing
system minimizes the time it takes to retrieve data or files from it. A disk drive image
provides a quick way to recover, but often it requires no hardware upgrade. Try to
delay the upgrade of the hardware in one Aspect Server as long as possible.
Limitations
800xA System software may be installed on the 32-bit (x86) US English version of
Windows Server 2008 Standard edition with Service Pack 2, or 32-bit (x86) US
English version of Windows 7 Business or Enterprise edition. The following
conditions affect the decision on which operating system to use:
Certain 800xA Server types can run on Windows 7 as well as on Windows Server
2008. Windows Server 2008 must be used for the following applications:
• Domain Server.
• Aspect Server when it runs the Domain Controller and Domain Name System
(DNS).
• Batch Server (except in a Single Node Engineering System).
• Information Management Server.
The IM Server can only be installed on a Single Node Engineering System if the
Operating System is Windows Server 2008.
• Servers that run Asset Optimization (except in a Single Node Engineering
System).
• 800xA for Harmony Connectivity Server, Configuration Server, and
• Configuration Server with Connectivity Server.
• 800xA for AC 870P/Melody Connectivity Server and Configuration Server.
• 800xA for MOD 300 Connectivity Server.

Chapter 4 - 5
T305-04 System Installation - RevE.doc

Systems using Windows 7 for the Aspect Server nodes are limited to nine PC nodes,
not counting Domain Server nodes. Systems using Windows 7 for any other server
nodes, other than the Aspect Server nodes, are limited to 11 PC nodes, not counting
the Domain Server nodes. These limitations depend on Microsoft licensing rules for
Windows 7 and Internet Information Services (IIS).
Windows 7 may be used in most other instances, although some performance benefits
may be gained by using Windows Server 2008. If Windows Server 2008 is not
required, then Windows 7 is generally recommended.
The Windows operating system may be purchased from any Microsoft reseller.
Preconfigured servers/clients that come from the server/client manufacturer must be
preconfigured by the server/client manufacturer to meet 800xA System specifications.
If they are not, they must be reconfigured by the user to meet 800xA System
specifications.
Existing nodes that are not running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 must be
reformatted and the compatible Operating System must be installed.
Click Advanced when installing Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008. This is required
to delete the existing partition and recreate a new one. Failure to perform this step will
leave old data on the hard drive.

4.4.4 System Verifier Tool

The System Verifier Tool delivered with the System Installer verifies whether or not
the hardware and software requirements are fulfilled. If the System Verifier Tool
determines that required software is missing, it helps to install that software. The
System Verifier Tool can only be run as part of the installation process using System
Installer. It is not a standalone tool.
This tool is also used to update systems within the SV5.1version and upgrade systems
from former versions to SV5.1. It generates upgrade information files which are later
used by the automated installation program.

4.4.5 Windows Installation Guidelines

Make a fresh installation of the Windows operating system and applicable service
packs before installing other third party software. Install Windows hot fixes, and
updates approved by ABB (refer to Third Party Software System 800xA
(3BUA000500Rxxxx) after installing other third party software. This document is

The Configuration Wizard is used for creating, administrating and maintaining the
800xA system. It handles both the server and client configuration.
The Configuration Wizard is started from the Windows Start menu,
Start > All Programs > ABB Industrial IT 800xA > Configuration Wizard

When the Configuration Wizard is started it shows a start-up window from which all
wizard tasks are started.

The available tasks are:

• “System software User settings”: configuration of the service account.
• “System Administration”: start, stop, delete and maintenance of systems.

Chapter 4 - 15
T305-04 System Installation - RevE.doc

• “Start Server”: starts all manually started systems on a server

• “Stop Server”: stops all systems running on a server.
• “Create System”: creation and initialization of systems.
• “Restore System”: restores a saved system.
• “Maintenance”: maintenance of the server.
• “AppLog”: AppLog configuration.
• “Connect Node”: connect a client or server node to an existing system.
• “Diagnostics”: enabling of fault detection routines.
Additional task may be added depending on connect families used. They are
documented in product specific manuals.

4.5.1 System software User settings

The “System software User settings” is used to specify groups and users.

System Admin and System User group names

Retain the default User Group names for these parameters (IndustrialITAdmin and
IndustrialITUser).
All users who should be able to work with the 800xA System must be added to the
Windows security group IndustrialITUser.
All users who should have administrative privileges for the 800xA System, must be
added to the Windows security group IndustrialITAdmin.
For multiple node configurations, the domain name must be entered (use the NetBIOS
name of the domain; for example, IIT1 and not the full qualified domain name
IIT1.Local.Leave these fields blank for single node configurations, for example when
setting up an Information Management Consolidation node.
For Workgroups, use the local machine name as the domain name.
NOTE! These settings have to be the same for all nodes in an
800xA system.

Chapter 4 - 16
System 800xA Training

Service Account
The Service Account is the user account in which the 800xA system services are
running with.
Enter the 800xA Service user name. The syntax is domain\username (local node
name\username for Workgroups).
Password
Enter the password for the service account. This ensures that the services are running
on a secured account.
Autostart System on Windows startup
Enabling this option causes the 800xA Base System to start up when Windows is
started. This is recommended.
Apply these setting to Application logging, too.
Enabling this option causes the AppLog function start with the specified account..
AppLog is a tool for getting information of an IndustrialIT 800xA System and for
examining how the system is working.
The configuration of AppLog can be done manually in the Configuration Wizard after
system creation if necessary.

4.5.2 How to Create a System

An 800xA system is created at the primary (first) aspect server.
1. Give the system a proper name and description. Select if you will create an
“Aspect Server” or an “Aspect Server and Connectivity Server” from the available
options and then press “Next”.
Server type “Aspect Server” is used for medium and large configurations when it is
recommended to run Aspect Server and Connectivity Server on separate nodes. The
Connectivity Server must then be added later on. Server type “Aspect Server and
Connectivity Server” is used for small configurations such as single node
configuration.

Chapter 4 - 17
T305-04 System Installation - RevE.doc

2. Choose the location of the Server Data, System Data and Workplace Data.

3. Check “Use Network filtering (Highly recommended)” option and choose the
number of network areas which are used in the system.
It is strongly recommended to use RNRP even if you are running a system with a
non redundant network because RNRP monitors the network and creates system
events if a network adapter fails.

Chapter 4 - 18
System 800xA Training

4. Type in the Primary Network Address, the Secondary Network Address and the
Subnet Mask.

5. You will get a summary of the settings you have made. Press “Finish” to create
the system.

4. Select all System Extensions which should be used in the system, press “Next”
and “Finish”.

The Red Cross, Green Checkmark and Warning icons indicate the status of the
dependency evaluation. The Green Checkmark icon indicates that the system
extension must be added first, and the Red Cross icon indicates that the system
extension cannot be added until the one with the Green Checkmark icon is added. The
Warning icon indicates that the system extension can be loaded, but that there is
additional information available in the lower part of the dialog box. The additional
information can for example be that the system extension contains aspect types that
are not environment aware.
If the list in the right pane contains more than one system extension, click Press
header to autosort to sort the system extension load order with regard to
dependencies.

4.5.4 How to Add/Remove Server and Clients

Adding a Connectivity Server
Perform this step using Configuration Wizard at the primary Aspect Server.
1. Select System Administration and press “Next”.
2. Select the System and press “Next”.
3. Select Nodes and press “Next”.
4. If you have created a system with an Aspect Server only the next step is to add the
first Connectivity Server. Select “Add Connectivity Server”
Before adding a Connectivity Server, make sure that the node to be added has
Operator Workplace installed. It must also have the same system extensions as the
Aspect Server.

Chapter 4 - 21
T305-04 System Installation - RevE.doc

5. Select the node which should run as Connectivity Server. The items “Update
remote node” and “Set as default system” options should be checked.
If the Update remote node check box is marked, the server will be updated and
activated.
If the Set as default system check box is selected, the default system on the server
will be set as the default system on the added node as well.

6. Press “Next” and “Finish”.

Engineering Workplaces and Operator Workplaces will be added in the same way
with “Add Client”. It is important to remark that before adding a client it must be
verified that the node to be added has 800xA System installed. It must also have the
same system extensions as the Aspect Server.

Chapter 4 - 22

Adding a redundant server

Select Add Redundant Server, select the node you intend to add a redundancy to, press
“Next” and select the node which should work as redundant server.

Keep the settings “Update remote node” and “Set as default system”, press “Next” and
“Finish”.
If you intend to setup 2 out of 3 redundant Aspect Servers repeat the step “Add
Redundant Server” for the primary Aspect Server.
NOTE! Remove Clients and Server in the same way.

4.5.5 Miscellaneous
The items Start Server and Stop Server are used to start and to stop the Aspect
Server. Start Server is not necessary if you have checked the item “Auto start System”

Chapter 4 - 23
T305-04 System Installation - RevE.doc

4.6 Central Licensing System

The 800xA System uses a licensing mechanism called the Central Licensing System
(CLS). One designated node, typically the Primary Aspect Server node, should contain
the License Server (CLS Server), thus becoming the License Server node. This server
dynamically distributes the available licenses as they are needed to all other nodes
within the system. As an alternative, licenses may also be reserved for use by a
particular node.
The Central Licensing System (CLS) is a standalone system designed to provide
robust central licensing functionality for use by any application. It uses:
• Centralized Web Service design (SOAP-based protocol)
• Simple client-side COM interfaces
• Built-in handling of all failure cases
(network failure, server failure, client failure, etc.)

The license system is a Client – Server based system. The CLS Server can run on any
node that supports IIS (Internet Information Services).
NOTE! Recommended node for running the CLS Server is the
primary Aspect Server.
This is recommended for security reasons because IIS is
needed at the CLS Server node and IIS is rather
vulnerable for viruses.
The CLS Clients has to run on any 800xA node.

Chapter 4 - 24
System 800xA Training

4.6.1 License Mechanism

The system uses a hardware ID to map a license to an individual PC. There are two
types of machine IDs that the ABB licensing program supports: a removable hardware
key, called a dongle, or the fixed Ethernet address of a network adapter.
The Rainbow SentinelSuperPro hardware key, or dongle, is a copy protection device
that comes in two formats – the parallel port version attaches to the 25-pin parallel
port of the node, and the USB version attaches to a USB port of the node.
Each of the machine ID types has advantages and disadvantages. Using the Ethernet
address as a machine ID is generally more convenient. However, if the network
adapter is ever replaces or permanently removed from the node, a new set of software
keys will be required.
The dongle approach gives a more flexible method of licensing, in that the licenses
can be moved from PC to PC easily. Moving an Ethernet card is not always possible,
as many PC’s now have built in LAN adapters.
Licenses can be either free-floating or locked. Free floating is where the first node to
request a license is given the license. Locked is where a license is locked to a
particular node or server, or to a particular application.

4.6.2 License Procedure

Licenses can be obtained by initially obtaining the machine ID.
If it is a dongle, then the machine ID is written onto the dongle.

If it is a MAC address, then it is obtained by going to DOS and typing the command
“ipconfig /all”. This will show a MAC address in the format XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX
as shown below.

The licensing process steps are explained below:

1. Obtain the machine ID of the workstation that the Central Licensing System
software is installed on, or going to be installed on.
2. Complete the license key request form provided with the software. Follow the
instructions found on this form.
3. Send the registration to the ABB software license administrator using one of the
methods described on the registration form.
4. Wait for the feature keys to be returned. The method which the feature keys will
be returned is selected on the registration form. The choices are Internet, mail,
postal mail or fax.

Chapter 4 - 25
T305-04 System Installation - RevE.doc

5. Install the required software following the product instructions.

6. When you have received your new software keys, install them on the license
server using the license entry program.
The following diagram resumes these steps:

4.6.3 License Entry

The License Entry editor is only available at the License Server node.

When the program starts it is important to see which Machine IDs are available. If a
computer has more than one Ethernet card in it, or an external dongle is being used
there may be more than one entry.

Chapter 4 - 26
System 800xA Training

You need a license file (.sla file) which matches to one of the IDs shown in the
“Installed Machine IDs” window.
If a dongle is being used and is not visible in the list of machine ID’s on the computer,
then the sentinel driver that starts the dongle has not been loaded. This is achieved by
selecting “Install SPro Drivers” in the License Entry Editor (see above). The License
Entry Program will then need to be closed down and restarted before the dongle ID
can be seen.
NOTE! Dongles come in either USB or parallel port format.

4.6.4 Software Key Installation

Software keys are generated by ABB, and are uniquely associated with the machine
identifier ID of the License Server node. They come as a file with the extension .SLA.
After receiving the software keys, they can be entered in the License Entry program
for proper software operation.
1. To install the software keys, launch the License Entry program from the license
server.
Start > All Programs > ABB Industrial IT 800xA > System > Licensing > License
Entry
2. Load a license file by selecting “Load / Replace Licenses…” in the License Entry
editor.

3. Browse for the proper .sla file and press “Open”.

Chapter 4 - 27
T305-04 System Installation - RevE.doc

If there are already licenses loaded you will get the following Overwrite prompt:

NOTE! It is an ASCII file which can be opened with any text

editor, e.g. Notepad. Don’t change anything in the file
because there are checksums in the file which detect any
changes.
4. Check that the licenses have been added correctly into the different License
Groups.

5. Open one License Group and select a license. Here you can see for each license
feature the quantity, the expiration date and the 800xA system version.

Chapter 4 - 28
System 800xA Training

4.6.5 License Status Viewer

The License Status Viewer is an application that can be used to diagnose licensing
problems. It is installed with the License Client and is therefore available on every
node running the 800xA System software.
To display the License Status Viewer, select:
Start > All Programs > ABB Industrial IT 800xA > System > Licensing > License
Status Viewer

In the status line (bottom line in the window) you can see which node is running as a
License Server (CLS Machine) and the Connection Status. If there is another message
than “No Error” then your License Client is not working properly.

Possible error causes are:

• You have chosen a wrong node as License Server.
• The License client node is running with another date / time than the CLS machine.
Solution: setup clock synchronization for the Client/Server network.
NOTE! You will not be able to start up the Configuration
Wizard or any 800xA workplace if the licenses are not
found. So you have to solve your licensing problems
during installation.

4.6.6 CLS Server

If the License Client is not pointing to the correct License Server node, or the License
Server has been relocated or renamed, change it by using the License Status Viewer.

To apply the changes it is necessary to shut down and restart the node.

4.6.7 Running without License

If your 800xA system is up and running and the dongle “disappears” or the Ethernet
interface is defect, you will get a message like this:

In the License Status Viewer you get this information:

This message does not mean that the 800xA system stops working after 48 hours. But
after this time everyone working with the system will get every minute the Message
“You are running the system without valid license”.

4.6.8 License Assignment Editor

The Central Licensing System dynamically distributes the available licenses as they
are needed to all the nodes in the 800xA System. However, the License Assignment
Editor allows licenses to be permanently assigned to a particular node.

4.6.11 License Usage Monitoring

The License Usage aspect shows a list of license features and the current usage. This
aspect is found in the Root object in the Control Structure.

The License Usage aspect also maintains a set of General Properties in the Root object
that can be used to construct alarm expressions to monitor when licensed quantities are
running low.

Chapter 4 - 33

To monitor alarm usage, create an Alarm Expression aspect in the root object. The
Alarm Expression is a useful tool to get information in an Alarm and Event list based
on property values. You can define an expression related to a property value, which
gives you a predefined message line in the list. Configuration is done via an Alarm
Expression aspect in an Aspect Object associated to the property.

For information on the Alarm Expression aspect please refer to the document
IndustrialIT 800xA – System – Configuration (3BDS011222).
