Permit To Work Principles

Permit-To-Work Systems (PTW) provide safety guidelines for hazardous work. PTWs adhere to eight principles: (1) hazards are eliminated to allow safe work without permits if possible, (2) the site manager is ultimately responsible for safety, (3) the permit overrides all other instructions until cancelled, (4) the permit provides accurate details about safe work procedures, (5) the permit remains in force until work is complete, (6) only authorized work described in the permit is allowed, (7) changes require permit cancellation and re-issuance, and (8) plant responsibilities must be defined for all stages of work.
