Experiment 12 - The Simple Pendulum
1- Experiment Objectives
To study the simple pendulum and determine the dependence of the period of a simple pendulum
on the length.
2- Apparatus:
Simple pendulum with variable length, stopwatch.
3- Brief Theoretical Introduction:
A simple harmonic movement is when an object moves from time to time in relation
to a state of equilibrium. The duration of free oscillations is determined by the
features of the oscillating system only. A simple pendulum is an example of such a
movement. It is made up of a small circular weight (called a bob) hanging from a
cord, when the m moves about an axis passing through the O perpendicular to the
paper.
The simple pendulum equation is:
4𝜋 2
T2 = L
𝑎
The square of the period (T2) is straightforwardly corresponding to the length of the pendulum
(L). Along these lines, by estimating the time of a pendulum too as its length, we can decide the
worth of g:
4𝜋 2 𝐿
g= 𝑇2

We expected that the recurrence and time of the pendulum rely upon the length of the pendulum
string, rather than the point from which it was dropped.
4- Data and Data Analysis:
Changing L while keeping (m) and (θ) constant
▪ Follow the manual instructions, and measure the time (t) it takes the bob to make 10
oscillations at each length (L) .
▪ Record the time of measurements and find the time for one oscillation (T) for each length
(L).

Using 100gmass and a 1.0m1.0m ruler stick, the 2020 oscillations time was measured in more than
55 trials. The comparing gg an incentive for every one of these endeavors is determined. The
accompanying information for every preliminary and the comparing gg esteem are displayed in
the table underneath.
The information was duplicated into Excel and charted. A power law was fit through the
information.

5- Conclusions
Our time contrasted with weight estimations showed practically no critical distinction in weight.
Hypothesis predicts that there will be no fluctuating by any means. Our distinction might have
been on the grounds that, as the majority shifted, the length of the pendulum could change as the
rope was not associated and welded. One more chance of this variety is that the photocell might
respond diversely to the design and materials utilized. The difference has all the earmarks of being
because of an absence of precision since it gives off an impression of being arbitrary. Time versus

length estimations are clear cut by the law of power. Utilizing Excel to adjust information, the best
overall influence law is:
T= 2.033 L 0.4595
Hypothetically, the outcome ought to be T = 2.01 L 0.5
Our examination is extremely near the hypothesis worth of 0.5, so our information compares to
the pendulum span contingent upon the square foundation of the length. Contrasts in strength and
lead term are probably because of erroneous estimations in pendulum length. These mistakes
happen as we attempt to quantify the length of the pendulum from where the string is associated
with the ring region to the focal point of the heap. Deciding the focal region isn't exceptionally
precise, so the L qualities experience the ill effects of an absence of exactness. Note that the point,
albeit controlled, was additionally wrong. This test was not intended to take a gander at the impacts
of the primary point during the pendulum. We can subsequently not fix the impacts of the primary
point prompting a differentiation between our outcomes and hypothetical hypotheses.
