A Letter of Appreciation 30 minutes

Purpose
This activity gives appreciation to a national artist for architecture. By appreciating
the work of the national artist for architecture, this activity gives recognition to the
people who have made tremendous contributions in this field.

Instructions

1. Select one national artist for architecture from any country. The artist you
select can be living or deceased.
2. Write a letter to the artist. This letter should articulate your thoughts,
feelings, questions, or anything you would like to express or discuss if given
the opportunity to talk to the artist.
3. Consider the following points:
a. Introduction: Briefly introduce yourself and the reason why you chose
this particular artist. What is it about the artist’s work that speaks to
you?
b. Body: This is where you should delve into your thoughts about the
artist’s work. Do you have any questions about the design process,
inspirations, or choices the artist made in specific works? Do you have
any comments on how the work has impacted you personally or how
it has contributed to architecture as a whole? If you have insights or
reflections about their work, this is a good place to articulate those.

c. Conclusion: Wrap up your letter by summarizing your main points and

expressing your appreciation for the artist’s work. If the artist were
alive, you would have wished to express your hope for a reply or your
wish to meet the artist someday.
4. Remember, the letter should reflect your personal style and perspective. It is
more about your thoughts and feelings towards the artist and the work than
about the artist's biography or resume. The goal is to communicate your
connection to the artist and their work, even if it is a connection only you can
see.
